In this video, we show you an objective, real world, head to head comparison of the all new Klipsch RP-1200SW, RP-1600SW, and SVS SB16-Ultra subwoofers!
This video is NOT sponsored. All equipment was purchased by us with our own money.
in order to have a fair comparison, the gain on all three subwoofers were set to max, the master system volume was not changed, and the output from Room EQ Wizard (REW) was set to -18dB.

We realized we misspoke about acoustic output after the video was published, and will be addressed in a future video. It takes about 10dB for the human ear to feel as though it's twice as loud. A difference of 3dB is what it takes for a change to be perceived by the human ear. It also takes double the power (all else being equal) to increase the acoustic output by 3dB.
dam that subwoofer peek at the rms of 1600 of my pa dual 18inch subwoofers
Not surprised of results, but all things are not equal regardless of the SVS specs. Most audio people know that sealed subs will not compete with vented subs. Test the PB 16 against the Klipsch 1600. Please note, not a fan boy of SVS, I own Monolith Subs, and Klipsch speakers.

@@PureMediaSystems Mez is right, comparing ported to sealed is stupid.
I said the same as soon as I heard SB16-Ultra. Looking forward to the comparison to the PB16-Ultra. If the test is performed fairly you're going to see a completely different outcome.
I’m just curious if the Klipsch 1600 will have port chuffing in the sub sonic region and how the driver/amp behaves in those lower frequencies.
@@Smood47 It's only stupid if you're a one-trick pony who never listens to music with deep bass and don't care about chuffing noise. This comparison was done because (a) there's more to sub performance than max LF output, and (b) to compare the composure of the Klipsch at subsonic freqs to a popular sealed sub which, of course, does not have port chuffing noise (but may bottom out if not limited).
Great news. Klipsch is going to give Monolith and SVS some competition.
Oh yeah! We were very pleasantly surprised at how well they new Klipsch Reference Premiere subwoofers perform! We love SVS subwoofers, but Klipsch has absolutely knocked it out of the park with these!. Be sure to tune in for more head to head videos!
Only way Klipsch will be able to keep up with the competition. Is only by doing there well known deep discounts. Other then that they will not. Not trying to say people won’t buy it. Just saying price to performance just isn’t on the same level as other ID brands. Also comparing ported vs sealed isn’t the same. If he compared the PB16. No way it would able to hang. But this is a great review for sure.
@@801J0J0 it performed better than the pb16 🤔 and it's 1k cheaper than the pb16
@@SpencersStuffTV We’ll see when a 3rd party like Audioholics does an actual measurement. Till then I’ll hold my judgment. It’s definitely an impressive sub for sure. And you are right about price per performance the SVS loses hands down. And it’s not much of a value. I can say that’s where Klipsch wins for sure.
They didn't dare compare to monolith. For the money, they won't even come close, just like SVS doesn't.
Good comparison for those not familiar to show how much of a difference there is between sealed and ported subs despite the power deficit of the Klipsch. Excited to see the how the power output of the PB-16Ultra compares to the more efficient driver of the Klipsch and if it is worth the extra $1000.
Thank you for your feedback! Be sure to subscribe for upcoming videos! There may be a surprise comparison with JTR 😉
Charts and graphs are pretty cool, but when you hear theSVS it’s no joke it brings the slam
@@user-tj7vr7pg9u I own both. Your right. The initial attack of the SVS Is no joke. My older SPL model Klipsch Can’t do that but the sheer output is ridiculous.
You guys are comparing two different types of subs: Sealed vs Ported! Sealed subs have their own advantages but ported subs such as this Klipsch will measure higher SPL at lower frequencies vs sealed subs as nearly all quality ported subs will!
Compare the ported SVS version (PB-16 Ultra) for a true apples to apples test.
Thank you for your feedback. Like we mentioned in the video, a PB16-Ultra comparison video is coming in the next few days. So make sure to subscribe! We are planning some other head to head as well!
Wow, that klipsch is huge
Are used to own the klipsch subwoofers until I heard the SVS subwoofers those mugs are awesome
I sold all nine klipsch subwoofers replace them with the SVS SB1600 SB4000 SB3000 and I am so happy. now I’m looking forward to watching all of my movies that I watched before all over again. The subwoofers are incredible. just incredible. I am speechless man telling you everything I watch on TV sounds awesome and even though the sound effect on regular TV is compressed and not that good the subwoofers make you pay attention to whatever is on TV.
Thank you for your comment. SVS subwoofers are great. Klipsch finally has real competitors now in the ported category. Still no sealed subwoofers. The sealed offerings from SVS are a great option.
Good to see klipsch adding new subs to the line. Seems this would be expected with ported vs sealed .
Thank you for your feedback! Be sure to subscribe, PB16-Ultra head to head coming soon!
Well it's been 10 months and NO UP DATE 😂 svs must have blew the RP16 away 😮😮😮
Next we need a sound test to compare the quality. I stopped chasing SPL now and would rather have less SPL with better accuracy.
Thank you for your feedback. There is a demo of the RP-1200SW at the end of this video. We will try to include more demos in future videos. If you are in the DFW area, please contact us for an in person demo!.
Yes, bring in the PB-16 for a fight. is about time ..... and dont forget the monolith sub too. they look like godzilla...

While I find these kind of comparisons entertaining, I also feel it's very misleading for naive viewers when statements like "all things being equal" are used. Comparing even a flagship sealed to a ported sub is not equal. SVS own entry level PB-1000 Pro has more output at 20hz than the SB16-Ultra. That's how much ports play a difference. Now run that sweep below 14hz, and the sealed isn't going to fall off the charts like the ported will either. I look forward to the PB16-Ultra results as they should be quite shocking. 🤯 Ciao!

I agree, charts and graphs has their place but performance real world totally different. I’m waiting on my.SVS sb1600 today right now I am excited

@@Doughty7 Thank you for the support!
Yeah make things fair and only compare ported woofers to each other…so i would love to see the comparison to the pb16 ultra
Thank you for your comment. Check out the other videos on our channel!
I'm very surprised at the 12 incher, to say the least. The 16 inch monstrosity with a cabinet the size of your average closet, sure, I would expect that to do extremely well for SPL in a ported design, but that 12 incher is what, a third of the price of an SB 16 Ultra? Very very impressive. Sure, there are probably intangibles, like fit and finish, and of course a sealed sub may well be more effortlessly musical, but wow. Also, of course, the SVS will have the bluetooth app and built in DSP I guess that's in their new lineup. Might still be the better sub overall, but it's also way more expensive than the gigantic 1600SW that outperforms it. Would be very interesting to see how the PB 16 fares in this comparo, comparing sealed to ported is a little apple and orange-ish. Edit: Oh, I see you've made that video - off to watch it I go.
Thank you for your comment.
Finally a competitor of the pb 16 ultra... And is impressive...surely wanna see the svs killer that Klipsch is gonna release... But its been a long time since announcement.. wonder y they arent releasing?
While the PB 16 Ultra will have a higher max output than the RP-1600SW, the Klipsch is a great value, and should be on the radar when shopping for a new subwoofer.
@@PureMediaSystems yes... That's bcs the watt difference... If Klipsch had the same watt output... Then Would have been awesome
I thought 10db increase is perceived as "twice as loud", not 3db.
Thank you for your feedback. Correct, we realized we misspoke after the video was published, and will be addressed in a future video. It takes about 10dB for the human ear to feel as though it's twice as loud. A difference of 3dB is what it takes for a change to be perceived by the human ear. It also takes double the power (all else being equal) to increase the acoustic output by 3dB.
From my personal experience, I had better results with even my SPL-150 then the pb16 ultra.
1st I did by ear and was shocked, did REW measurements and confirmed SPL-150 was actually getting slight better response.
That’s when I got rid of the dual svs & went dual Klipsch 🤷🏻♂️
Wild but ey that was what worked for me.
Maybe it had to do with my listening volume, I’m sure cranked up SVS would outperform but I simply don’t listen that loud. I think I was at -30db on my AVR,
Typically I’m around -40-ish heck even -50 which SVS was barely audible even at MAX again & +12 db on AVR while Klipsch was audible , guess it’s more sensitive.
That all said! I’ll sell my dual 150’s for a single RP1600 until I can afford a 2nd one later down the line
Thank you for your feedback! Please contact us for any help with design and equipment.
Hey, I understand because I got rid of my klipsch subwoofers for theSVS subwoofers not because of a graph or a chart or something it’s because of how they perform. Yes, you do have to know how to set them up and you do have to push the subwoofer a know if you turn the volume down. Yeah you’re not gonna get very much out of them can’t baby the subwoofer.
Normally I’m at 18 DB depending on what I’m watching or if I’m playing a game I may push it up to 12 or 10 DB they are awesome but hey, enjoy your klipsch
@@user-tj7vr7pg9u took me a sec to realize you meant negative 18 since you said you push it up to 10. So .. -10 gotcha.
My floor standings are RF7’iii so they get loud quite easily without needing to pump up the volume.
The only thing I liked on the svs was the app control & calibration which, I bought a mini-dsp with my Klipsch anyhow so it was literally not a single downgrade for me. But I do look forward to upgrading to these new 16’s !
Didnt test PB 16 ultra. Bit unfair trying to compare sealed to ported.
Check out all of our videos, we have another video with the PB16-Ultra
This man is going to blow the whole house. 🤣
And to think, we didn't even push it to it's limits!
@@PureMediaSystems Don’t EVER do part 2! 😰
@@Voidd23 Looooool right!
And to think the 1600 isn’t even the “beast” that is still in the works 🫢
We know not what you speak of 🤐
I feel like “The Beast” project turned into these subs. But I hope I’m wrong.
It looked like you measured them in different spaces too. Svs back in the cubby at and the Klipsch sitting out in front of the cubby.
No, these were measured in the same spot.
You guys should compare the klipsch to the PB3000. What do you think? Some reviews have said the svs sounds better despite it being 2-3db quieter below 31.5hz
Thank you for the suggestion
Well done!
Thank you for your feedback!
I don't get it. Why is 16" with much higher power amp is below the 12" same family subwoofer at around 28Hz? That's really strange
Sounds nice 🎉
Thank you for your feedback!
Klipsch is not a closed system. It has a Rp 1600 port, just like the SVS 16 Ultra. It beats the SVS 16 Ultra, why don't you accept it? Don't be a brand addict. The data is clear, Klipsch is better, and at half the price.
Thank you for your feedback. The SB16-Ultra and the PB16-Ultra are awesome subwoofers. The PB16-Ultra should have higher max output than the PR-1600SW. In our testing here, we did not test max output, just straight out of the box sweeps. The RP-1600SW is more sensitive than the PB16-Ultra, which is why you see higher output at the same settings here. It does seem like the Klipsch has less port noise than the SVS, but that may vary depending on the setting you use on the SVS and other factors. While the SVS app is really nice, we have found that a lot of people don't take advantage of it. Depending on the room size, you may not need the extra power/output from the SVS, and with how much more the SVS is, this is definitely something to consider. Also, you can get something like a MiniDSP, or a new AVR like the Integra DRX-8.4 that allows you to take advantage of Dirac active bass management which gives you a lot more control. At the end of the day, it depends on your space, the experience you want, and ultimately your budget.
So cool!!

It can’t compare to the monolith 15” thx. The monolith goes deeper and has a lot more power from the amp. Pretty much the same price too.
Thank you for your feedback.

@@PureMediaSystems I will.. Thank you
Vs the Ultimax 18?
Thank you for the suggestion. We will keep that in mind for future videos
Why compare a sealed sub against two ported subs? This doesn't make much sense as they're optimized for different use cases. It's like comparing a Formula-1 car against a Baja racing truck. Both are amazing at what they do, but they're made to do different things. Sealed subs are generally much cleaner and better for music, while ported subs most often play deeper and louder.
For fun, and because we can. At this time Klipsch doesn't make a sealed subwoofer, but these subwoofers are likely to be cross shopped, so why not.
It looks like a 5dB advantage at 20 hz but less (maybe 3-4 dB) at the rest of the graph for the Klipsch from what I’m seeing. That’s not what I would call “far superior”.
Klipsch is entry level home theater.
For that room Rythmik, RSL or HSU would be far superior and hard to beat price!
Thank you for your feedback
Klipsch have an entry level range (Reference). The RP range is one step above that. Yes, there are other more expensive brands but that doesn't mean they're bad just because you consider them cheap
Derp... Wrong !!!!!
Svs hands down idc 💪🏽💯
SVS does make great subwoofers. The new Klipsch Reference Premiere subwoofer lineup is a real contender now though.
Very misleading. A ported SVS 16 will destroy the ported Klipsch in every way.
Thank you for your comment
This is true, but for the price point you can get 2 of the Klipsch 14” and have way more output than the 16” SVS.
Sorry but this is not an apples to apples comparison......of course the ported will be louder in the ultra low frequencies once it was designed appropriately. IMO, you are just testing brands here, not really testing/comparing performance of equal/similar enclosure types.
Thank you for your feedback. This was simply an out of the box test with frequency sweeps. There will be future videos with other tests on the channel.
so glad i sold my sb16u for $1k and grabbed a rp1600 on sale this week for $1169

so excited

That port sound on Klipsch :(
Thank you for your feedback. There is actually very little port noise in person, especially compared to other ported subwoofer designs.
Gain was smaller on svs. Show results when both subs are maxed
The gain was set to max on both subwoofers.
Compating subs in room are a bad idea. You cant get them in the exact same place. Anacoic or nothing. Klipsch looks louder. Thats it. Rp 1600 sw goes way lower!

Naaa!! Fan boys..

stupid test, shitty settings on REW, no level matched to compare, no maximum output vs distortion tested etc ... i could go on an on...btw, nasty null on that placement on the 30-40hz, imho the the most important subwoofer base range
Such fail to compare ported vs sealed as equal.
Ported and sealed subwoofers are different, there is no mention that they are the same. This was simply an out of the box comparison.
Bomming?? Klipsch.

Svs is surely not heading in the right path lately. There will soon be what happened to svs videos. Gotta keep up with the jones while gettin those prices back down or they're doomed.
