My echo dot 4th gen from amazon is literally my favorite gadget lmao. Love the audio quality + the powerful mediatek chip inside. The kids version looks great for little ones

Great Video Brett! I know you are a GH fan but it would be nice to see more videos like this. I personally use both. They both have benefits. I have a GH & GH mini as well as original echo, new echo, echo show, dot, spot...and a INSIGNIA speaker with GH built in...lol! design and sound quality GH wins (especially dot compared to GH mini) but my favorite is the echo spot. It would be nice to see your take on them.
Thanks for the feedback! My main goal is to show off the great features of all products but I am pretty limited with time. Hopefully one day I will be able pump out more videos on more products. I have an Echo but it is still in the box so maybe I should do that next!

With echo dot kids can you disable the kid part
I love the bumper by itself. Ha, would like the blue one. Are these features on regular Alexa too? I only have one right now, but two would be nice to use as an intercom. Google's "Broadcast" feature isn't good for that. I like google better too but find that Alexa turns lights on way faster than google does. I wish Amazon would add "Hey" to the wake word because any of those four words can be randomly talked about and she would turn on when I don't want her to. I often wonder about people with family members named Alex. That must be nuts. When I talk to Chris we say "echo" so as not to wake up Alexa and end up yelling Cancel to her. Or "The Echo". I love the idea of saying "Computer" like it's the Enterprise but then I can't talk about our computers. Same problem.

I know this video is old but I was wanting to know could you use the kids device as a regular device without any restrictions? I found the kids device way cheaper than the regular so that’s why I wanted to know.
From what I understand yes. You just turn off FreeTime and it acts like a normal Echo Dot.

If it’s the same as Echo Gen 2, why not buy the ED2 for $25 (as of 12/28/18 on Amazon) and enable kid mode and save the difference in cost? Am I missing something?
It comes with a year or subscription to some of Amazon's kid content and services as well as extra device protection. But yes you can just use an Echo Dot 2 and pay for the subscription if you want to use it.

The Free Time app is now available on an iPhone. You can also adjust settings on the Amazon website.

Brett, what is the difference between the echo dot and the echo dot kids edition? The echo dot is already kid friendly as it is. I feel she’s G rated and family friendly. Is the only difference that you can have parental controls and make the dot more educational?

Some of these features work on the regular dot without freetime except the message one. Wich makes me a little sad as in Canada they don't have freetime yet or a kids version. Do you know of anyway to get the echo dot 2nd gen to take messages like this?
Do you have any messaging option now? Most likely you would need to set up the Echo with different account and a specific phone number.

No, you can use the Alexa app to drop in on an Echo.
Yes and no. Like he said you can use the app but if you don’t have your phone on you, you can also drop in on any of your friends or family that also have Alexa. It doesn’t have to be localized.
Is there anyway you can take the case out and change it?
Yes you can take it out and place it in a case that has battery power that works with the Echo Dot.

I am a little confused I have been told that free time can only be used on one device by multiple Amazon reps. I have a kindle fire and an Echo and I am thinking of getting the free time subscription. Since I have one kid I can only use one or the other for free time unless I pay the rate of 6.99 a month so she can listen music on her dot and play games on her fire at the same time under free time. It makes no sense that I would have to unlink my free time from one device to link it to the other device to use it. I should be able to play it on any device.

Does the blue wrapper for the Dot add to the units heat? I am always leary about adding insulation to a units heat dissapation.
There are enough vents on the bottom that I don't see that this could be an issue.

What do I have to do to send messages like you did to echo dots? Cant seem to figure it out my phone contacts I am able to send messages, but when I try to send a message to kids I can’t do what u did. ( from one echo dot to the other )
Under the Amazon Echo app go into devices and on the Kids Echo make sure the communication options have been enabled. My Calling and Messaging is on and I have My Household selected.

The dot, spot are not family friendly. You can't add the kid's voice profiles, only adults. They need to fix the orientation to be geared for the family.
I just got one for my son. , can he call my mom who has echo dot and show in her house but she’s an hour away or will it only work with my husband and I echos and dot
Why do Google allow them to use Android phones?
Cause there is no point for them not to limit it, Apple has siri and still allows the Google app, if it wasn't available, people wouldn't buy it

there's something CREEPY!!! so when I send a message my brother and my Alexa send it and my Alexa brother got a message and my brother say Alexa read my message and my Alexa brother say the message and my brother goes to sleep and my Alexa brother turn off the light and turn to red my brother wakes up and scream and I just wake up and go to my brother room and unplug Alexa cable
