What I like the best about it is the quality of video calls and that it can guard the house. The combo of Mediatek and Amazon is creating great devices.

This may be the 2nd video or 3rd I have watched from you. I loved how deep you went with this review. I love tech and I love Amazon Echo devices and I have gotten a lot of my family members on board too. None are as geeked about them as I am, but that is okay. I still haven’t bought an Echo Show 10. Mainly because I am waiting for the price to drop or go on sale and I know it will. Until then I will live vicariously through you guys.

Brett - Thanks for the great reviews. I'm debating the Echo 10 and Echo 15 for our kitchen remodel and think I'll do the 10. Love many of the features you show and they way you thin through & report on home automation.

Very thorough review! I have been debating getting a Google home device for the past year. I wanted something that could monitor my home as well as be helpful to me with cooking. I have a adult child with aspergers who stays at home alone during the day. We both have iPhones so I can FaceTime him to check on him while I’m at work. But I would love to be able to just “drop in” on him quietly at times so as to not bother him. I currently only have a 1st gen Alexa device so buying the Show 10 would be a huge upgrade for me. Watching your review helped me decide that this was the device we need. Thank you and your sweet family for a great review.
This is a fantastic in-depth video. I was hesitant on this device because I thought it was a bit creepy, but you may have changed my mind! My question to you is, what are your thoughts on this vs the Nest Hub Max? Some of the same features, but a bit different.

Does the device go back to the main screen while watching CZcams videos after 5mins? Meaning you watching a video then after 5mins it goes back to the main screen

Wow, you did an awesome job covering the new Show 10. I have one and like it, too, but you've covered a lot I hadn't seen before. It was fun seeing Brian show up in the video, too. He's EVERYWHERE!!! Thanks so much for a great video I'll "favorite" and share with others. Oh, I couldn't find where to make it instantly show a picture to another Show. I tried it and got a message on the other show it was shared, but didn't find the exact way to make it happen automatically. I'll keep looking. Great Job! Your dad is a real ham...in a good way!!!
Thanks! The easiest way to see the photos is to say, "A, show shared photos"
To have them auto display you need to go into the Wallpaper settings and select the shared album between you two.

Great review! I bought an Show 8 and all I wanted it to do was keep my calendar up the entire time so that I can always see my next appointment. But seems like that’s an impossible thing to do. So frustrating. If you have any advice about this I would love to hear it. Thanks!

In the communications section, you mention making a video call from Echo Show to the Alexa app on a phone. I've been having problems getting that to work, even with the Alexa app open. The funny thing is that it works great on phone to phone video calls or phone to Echo Show, but not from Echo Show to phone

Great info, Brett! Best detailed review of Echo Show I've seen. I use my tablet in the kitchen to display recipes on the Pepperplate app. When I first saw the Show, I thought it would be great for recipes, but then I realized it can't use apps, so I'll continue with my regular Echo in the kitchen along with my tablet.

This video is so in depth. I’m glad I clicked on it. Thanks. Now you have me thinking of getting one for my elderly parents who still live at home. I worry about them constantly. It would be nice to have them be able to contact me with just their voice
Same. What is not clear to me is if my parents would need their own Amazon Prime account to manage the device. They are not super techy so not sure if they would be able to configure the thing if there was issues. My mom doesn't even have a mobile phone. Wonder if it makes sense for the device to be set up on my Amazon account and just place it in their home so I can manage it. Got my mom an iPad for xmas past but I don't think she has really figured it out. I could only spend a short time showing her basic use.
Perhaps a Show is better to maintain video contact, etc..
@@alanrussell6678 Ok, so Echo Shows are setup on the devices’ screen itself, it’s not using the Alexa app. You should in theory be able to just give them your Amazon details, and just have them add it to your account, that way you can help them with settings, you’ll just want to tell it in the app the proper location for weather etc.
I wish it could also pivot up and down when tracking people. My father doesn't realize that he has to aim his iPad so that his image is in frame with the front facing camera when in a video call so the other person often just sees the ceiling during a video call; also, he often only accidentally invokes facetime starting a video call so he also doesn't know how to start a video call by himself. As he has early stages of dementia, it would also be useful for family members to check up on him with the camera.
Ordered one of these, our current Echo Show 10 is on a kitchen island so is totally rubbish except in one direction, this solves that problem, very excited for it to turn up and hopefully solve the daily problem of shouting at it while cooking and having it completely ignore us as its facing the other way.
I is amazing to me how little practical improvements there is in these display based devices. After 2 years in pandemic, and with growing work from home, they still think you would put this device mainly into kitchen and play youtube video of cooking :D Just unbelievable to me that there is no advanced office assistant - and things like automatically showing you calendar entry based on time, to do list that stays on the whole time, work related smart routines etc. Cmon guys
I bought the Echo Show 10 along with the Echo Sub as a bundle. I am looking forward in seeing what they can do together.

This has been the most comprehensive, detailed and expressive review of a home smart device ever, the motion is just a bit creepy but so futuristic and cool at the same time, hope Google makes a similar device like this so that I'll buy it because Alexa is not supported or available in the Philippines sadly

Great video. How does it deal with following when there are multiple people in the room. Is there a way to have it follow a specific person? I’m interested in using this for my kids birthdays and Christmas when they are opening presents and running around the room. Usually I wind up being the person holding the tablet for video calls with the grandparents and have to follow the kids as they run around which get old fast :)

great video. does the care hub feature work if you have an echo show 8 2nd gen or echo show 15?
Brett, since you have a family how do you configure Alexa Echo devices to commonly share smart home features. What I am noticing and having limitations with is when I link something that's a third party product (non-amazon), i.e hue, wemo, nest. That its only in my profile and the skill sets that I have setup. Unlike google/nest products that when I set it up, its immediately shared with the family along with "groups" (i.e. rooms) and more. It makes it easier for the family to learn the commands to use the features. with these alexa devices it becomes more cumbersome from setup and also making sure everything is setup the same (and more difficult with the more amazon family members you have with their own profiles).

Couple of Q's, When you called your dad it looked more like drop in than a video call since the display was showing him entering the room. If calling a show10 from a show10 does it just automatically connect now like drop in or was that just an edit in your vid?
In group calling can you shift the small displays of other people around on the screen?
Would love to see a comparison with the nest hub max especially in speed for home control. In the past the shows have been super slow and the google screens have been quite quick. Thanks!
Nice catch, that was just an adjustment in the editing. He did have to answer by voice or by tapping on the screen.
For the group calling I was not able to adjust the position of participants. It seemed like every was small in the top right and Dial got the most real estate on everyone's screen.
I will see if I can get a comparison together. I much prefer the Nest Hub Max Smart Home screen over the Echo Show.
Thanks for the video! Can you stop it from going to the "Amazon For Your Day" screen? I was thinking about getting this to use as a digital picture frame but if constantly mixes that screen in, kind of a turn off.

question, with the Drop In camera, when I do this MY picture of me from my phone Also is showing on the echo 10. How do I turn that off? Echo show 10 3rd gen. Another video showed on their phone under general, it had CAMERA. That way it can be used as one with not your face showing.. I don't see CAMERA either.

I am considering purchasing one of these and your video was so helpful in making my decision! I loved your presentation and thoroughness. The one thing you did not cover (or if you did I missed it!), can I make phone calls/texts from this device to someone else’s cell phone? In other words can I say, “Alexa, call John Smith cell phone”? I guessing it would have to be paired with my iPhone via Bluetooth. Can I do this with the Show 10 3rd gen? Love it other than the white cable. I use the show in kitchen and have black splashback. Is it the same connection as the show 8? Everywhere else in house is white with the black cables. So maybe I could switch cables

For someone who is starting a Smart Home and not a fanatic of either side, what is the best Smart Home system? Google seems to have more tight-knit integration, but Amazon seems to have more options that give you more future-proof features.
