      I have a question. So, on location I can use my phone and I create an account for the person who will use the Echo. For that account creation I use a mobile number? Or an email? Because then, when I want to call that person what is the contact? I didn't get this part. Thanks in advance!

    • @zephirusvideos

      I still have this question. The recipient needs to associate the phone number with the amazon account? Why is that? Why there's need for a mobile number? Shouldn't be need only the amazon account information to call the echo? I'm really confused. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks.

    • @faengelm
      @faengelm Před 4 lety +1

      @@zephirusvideos Amazon requires a phone number to "link" the Amazon accounts for Alexa Calling. They do NOT use the phone number to make the call, as its an Internet call. When you are setting this up they send a text to that number. You can't use your own number as that will confuse Alexa calling. If your loved one doesn't have a cell phone, add a Google Voice number with your own phone to get them setup. www.amazonforum.com/s/question/0D54P00006zSpI5SAK/you-dont-need-to-get-grandma-a-smartphone-to-setup-alexa-calling

    It's as if you read my inner thoughts and proactively provided all the essential answers I needed (and which I was planning to find out myself by trial and error). Just finished setting up an Echo Show for my Mom and based on that, wanted to add one more tip: in case your relative does not already have a cell phone number and you need to obain one to set up the Show (a free Google Voice number will do), people who will be calling him/her will need enter that new number into their smart phone contact for the relative. Logically they should do it before importing the contacts into their Alexa app but in fact, even if they already have their contacts imported and entered the new number after that, Alexa will still pick it up (at least it did it for me on my iPhone).

    Thank you for the video. Very informative and easy set up instructions but you seemed to have left out a key piece of information. So I went out to purchase an Echo Show 8 for my parents to keep in touch with the family. I thought I had everything to get them set up and video calling but I could not unfortunately. In your video you mention linking a phone number to the account but nothing about the linked phone number has to be a active cellular phone number. My parents don't own a cell phone so watching this video I assume I can link their landline phone number but that's not the case. So anyways sorry for my rambling. You should mention that the linked phone number has to be a active cellular phone number or you can not set up any Echo Show devices.

    For those asking on setting it up for Granny without being physically there and you need a phone number to set up amazon for her but she has no phone then do this
    1. Create a gmail account for granny
    2. Create a google voice account for granny and write down the number
    3. Create amazon account for granny
    4. Sign into Echo Show device using amazon account you just created
    5. If it asks for phone number to complete setup use the google voice number from step 2

I currently have a ipad with her - but since she had not apple products, I connected with with my phone number - bad mistake. If I purchase a Echo Show I under stand ALL calling into the show will have to have a Amazon prime account, correct? Also will the account be linked to 'my nanny e's show"? I do not want anyone at the facility to have the benefits of ordering off the prime account. Do I need to set the echo with with a phone number? Just finished setting up and only thing to be aware is you do need your relative to have a mobile number that they can link to the amazon account which allows you to video call them. You cannot use a landline. I set up the new amazon account using a different email account to my normal one and its very easy to sign in and out as needed via your smartphone and this means you can then add photos as a screenshow which is great

    Hi thanks for the video and this is exactly what i want to do for my parents and I will need to set it up with my smart phone because they do not have one. However can you explain how other alexa app devices are able to call 'Nanny E'. Is your example 'Nanny E' a contact on the smart phone that you set up the echo?
    This is my problem. I have an alexa at my home using my partner's phone account. My parents live two hours away. I want to set up an echo show 8 at their house. I have created an amazon account for them and will register that on the alexa app when I am at their house. I have set up a contact on my phone that is linked to my alexa at home so they can video my house but what contact do I set them up as? Do i use my number of my smart phone and just rename it for my parents? So that when I call them from my home alexa, in reality I am calling myself on my smart phone? To overcome double dial issues, should I then remove the alexa app from my phone?
    Sorry this is all a bit confusing for this exact scenario. Cheers

    • @Nekinnelf
      @Nekinnelf Před rokem

      You have already solved this by now but fyi for others, the Show device must be related to the cell phone number of its user. If it has been set up using the Alexa app on the “gifter's” cell and the gifter's cell number, the Show will be registered to the gifter. In that case, you must reset the Show and start the setup process again with the recipient's ( the actual user's) cell number and Amazon account.

    My question is this, I am planning on removing the echo dot I have in kitchen and replacing it with an echo show 8. If I also link it to my amazon account does that mean it will also use my cell number as the call number?
