  • Hi, Welcome back to another video on our Budget Build Mini Clubman.
    So in this episode we get some Stone Chip paint on the underside and inside of the car my reasons for doing both its its just mote durable and longer lasting. I cant wait to see some colour on this car.

    that came out really well! makes me want to re-do mine! im sure having it on the inside might help with the sound deadening too.

    This put a big smile on my face, spraying the stone chip on means that all the welding is done and you're onto the next stage. Its looking really good and smart now, well done mate 👍🏻

      @@SimpsonsClassics I can't wait either, to see the car painted and on its rostyles will be great. To have done it for around £1000 in parts is amazing and you should be so proud. I have totted up the hours at a reasonable rate......GULP!! 😂 It's a valuable little car and worth every penny. Stay safe mate

      @@SimpsonsClassics Yeah as you might be aware I was in restoration as an apprentice on mainly MGA's and the main chunk of the restoration costs were labour charges. If I remember right back in late 80's, a resto on an MGA was £20k and labour costs were way over £12k!!

      Graeme W Yeah when you work out the costs of labour it can soon scare people and then they get rid of their classic cars this is why I wanted to do this series to prove you can save thousands doing it yourself 👍

    Nice. Bought 6 bottles of the gray stuff for an mx5 that's getting some rust fixes. What are your thoughts on spraying suspension arms/brackets/arbs with it, once rust treated?

      Thanks. I think it’s a decent idea I have seen people paint subframes etc with it. It’s all about a layer of protection I guess 👍

    Can stone chip paint be used on plastic wheel archs so it allows the red brake calipers to show more

    Nice. Thanks for showing that. What’s the bit of box section on the tunnel just in front of the back seat support Marc? We don’t have them on our minis.

    Hi mate I’m looking at doing this on my escort what did you do with the axle stands did you find a spot that didn’t need painting or did then bits gets missed out and touched up later 🤷‍♂️

      Hi mate yeah so off camera once paint had dried I moved the stands and did those areas. When it came to the colour I just touched this in after.

    What sort of prep did you have to do before spraying the gravi tex and also what prep do you need to do to paint over it 2k

      I sanded the underside of the car with 80 grit paper. Addressed any surface rust, the etch primed the metal. Then put the stone chip on. After this I used a scotch pad to flat that back then put top coat on. Hope this helps 👍

    Hi mate, what pressure did you use on the airline? Did you use 2k epoxy primer beforehand? Also from the UK... Nice job!

      I was spraying at 15-16psi if I remember correctly. Yes primer before hand buddy. Thanks for watching 👍

      @@SimpsonsClassics perfect thank you for your help, some people say use at 40-70psi so i wanted to check haha! what psi and litre is your compressor? my mate has a 50L one and I've been looking at 25L ones on ebay. will be either borrowing his or buying one myself... would a 25 or 50L do it? the 25L ones on ebay claim 150 psi...

      @@otacon4065 no worries you don’t need a hi psi for doing the stone chip. I only have a little 50ltr compressor as well 👍

    Bittersweet having to cover up all the hard work you put in to make the shell solid, but great to see the car moving another step closer to being in colour.
    Just wondering what size compressor you are using to apply the stonechip?

      Thanks buddy it was a good feeling to hit this point. I have a 50ltr compressor it’s a great little thing doesn’t take much to get the stone chip on with the correct gun etc 👍

      I guess you can use it anywhere but never tried it on exterior panels. People would suggest raptor over this for exterior panels.

    Marc, just wondering why you choose not to use a rotisserie when doing your restorations? Keep up the amazing work!

      If you have caught our 89 project series, we do use one on that car, however being a hand made one it really didn't go to plan and caused more issues, this being said we do plan to get another one for that car. So stay tuned, the reason we didn't use one for this project as we wanted to prove it can be done on your driveway without to many specialist tools.

      Because it’s hard wearing, better protection and has sound proofing properties. There is no right or wrong product. Thanks for watching.
