It's amazing. You need to commit to training like that though. don't know about taking all those groin shots though. I've seen too many fights where refs don't give a crap about them.

What is interesting is he really only kicks with the right leg. If his right leg is back, he is going to spin, if right leg is forward, he is going to side kick. What is insane is that all of these fighters probably knew that, but still couldn’t stop him
That's because he practiced that one kick 10,000 times instead of two kicks 5,000 times each. 🤣

It's crazy how there's always the search for the best style or move, but there's a counter to every style and every move. In every sequence, he gets his range and starts his spin. It's either coming straight middle or hook high, and it's just a guessing game of what to block. So you get close right? A little closer means spinning backfist. A lot closer means a side kick in your gut. He's super physically talented, strong, agile, flexible, excellent balance.
I love this series of American kickboxers who had success. I wish kickboxing got revived in America. It would do a lot better under the UFC than PowerSlap. Smh. Good vid though

The entire MMA and One FC is all Kickboxing actually. Even though they mostly Thai fighters in One FC alot fight in American Kickboxing Rules, they have to sign in order to do Full Muay Thai.

FINALLY! This guy was a whispered about legend back in the 90's fighting scene. People always talked about "A Preying Mantis Kung Fu fighter who did kick boxing and thai boxing and could beat the Thais" but half the time, no one knew his name and almost no one had any footage on him in the *cough cough* trading circles until after 2000.

@@ghostdetective311 I know huh? The real test of a sidekick is practiced on a tree. When you can build up to kicking that tree and you don't move you have arrived. So you practice the technique form and then apply it slowly to the tree using 5-10-15% to 100% etc. but you still have to practice the four stages of the kick

Go check out statistic of the normal weight and height of those Muay Thai Boxers. They are a lots lighter and a lots shorter, meaning they were much much different in weight class. For instance, Coban Lookchaomaesaitong Heigh :5 ft 4 in (1.63 m) and Weight 135 lb (61.2 kg) VS. Manson Gibson Height 1.80 m (5 ft 11 in) and Weight 80 kg (180 lb). Almost 20 kg. difference. Super unfair fight.

I think spinning kick to the liver is the ultimate moves against Muay Thai cause they rely on defending head and legs, they feel really confident in their ability to take body shot cause they train their core to the limit, so a powerful spinning kick targeting body might be a surprise for them

Another honorable mention is Cung Le. Le practiced Sanshou , Taekwon do and kickboxing and was undefeated in kickboxing. Maybe you can do a video of Cung Le some day.

I think what makes his kiick so devastating is how he can put it behind someone's head. Most fighters are not used to being hit there or defend that until you get into ultimate.

Lawrence, I absolutely love your breakdowns. Truly I do. But I would really love it if you started looking at some newer talent like Tawanchai P.K. Saenchaimuaythaigym. This kid is young, powerful and has technically beautiful kicks and punches. I've seen other youtubers break his work down, but you are the go to channel I always check for the best breakdowns.
Also would like to see you break down the fight between Rodtang and Superlek. Thought Rodtang had that one when he cut Superlek, but Superlek really had the heart of a champion and pulled out that win. Too good of a fight not to have a Lawrence Kenshin Striking Breakdown.

Tawanchai is overrated. He got knocked out by some random Chinese guy a few years back, got completely pieced up by Sittichai and had a very dodgy decision win over Smokin Jo Nuttawat.

Bruce sparred with the best heavyweights in his Era including Joe Louis, Chuck Norris both of which became his students. Even Louis referred to Bruce as the best. Grandmaster Jim Kelly referred to him as untouchable and unbelievable. Bruce defeated Grandmaster Samo Hung from "Enter the Dragon" in a matter of seconds delivering a kick to his head before he could even lift up his leg. Likewise with Muhammad Ali's bodyguard George Dilman who couldn't even see Bruce's kick much less have time to counter with his own kick. Bruce also defeated Grandmaster Bolo Yeung from "Enter the Dragon" hitting him so hard on the chest and dropping him to the ground. Bolo refused to do a fight scene with Bruce after that humiliating loss. Bruce also defeated Wong Jack Man the best fighter in the Chinese community which was sent from the Chinese council of Elders to defeat Bruce and force him to stop teaching Kung Fu to Americans. Grandmaster Street Fighter James Demille 225 lbs, Professional Heavyweight Boxer Ed Hart 240 lbs and Professional fighter Jesse Glover in Judo and Karate according to James Demile were not only defeated by Bruce but they were defeated where they didn't even stand a chance. This is besides the hundreds of Street flights Bruce got into In Hong Kong forcing him to come to America to avoid being arrested by the police. Bruce Lee was battle tested on the street not in the fake tournaments of the 60's where the referee would step in every few seconds stop the fight and award a point. Fake fighting which is why he avoided those fake tournaments. According to all the greatest fighters of all time he was the real deal able to deliver 6 punches in a second and his strongest punch up to 1200 lbs per sq in. Lightning speed with the force of a heavyweight with his punches and kicks faster than the human reaction time, virtually impossible to defend against. Every great Martial Artist recognizes Bruce as the father of modern day MMA to whom we owe a gratitude of thanks.

I don't even know if he's still alive right now. The last time I seen him was during the second year of the pandemic on the 47th street bus here in Chicago. I had gave him $10 and bought him some Popeyes chicken.
I hope he is still alive and some how getting help and rehab! He was one of my favorite teachers and when I spared with him I couldn't hit him for my life.

In the 70's and 80's most fighters had one or two specialised kicks. Nowadays, fighters have a wide range of techniques, Muay Thai fighters are renowned for the Leg/Sweep and turning kicks. So if you can beat this style then you could be a great
Considering the leg muscles are by far the strongest muscles in the human body, this seems a self-evident style to embrace. Much like Justin Gaethje kick-smashing his opponents' legs when he was young and fast to take their best weapons from them.
Gathje or Jose Aldo in his prime. Or the lumber jack Peter Aerts who cuts his opponents down with punishing low kicks
As Lee elaborated, be formless. Fighting is not about style, it’s about winning.

I will acknowledge that the Thai fighters were limited to a certain degree, but that doesn't mean that Mason had it easy. He is basically doing the same few circular moves repeatedly, and all of those legendary Thai fighters knew how to counter those attacks. The leg kicks alone normally shut down most karate and taekwondo fighters who use a bladed stance. The reason Mason was able to win is because of his freakish athleticism and precise timing. Andy Hug had similar success with his Karate style vs Thai kickboxing style. Mason admitted that Thai kickboxing is the best style. His unorthodox style mixed with his precise timing is the reason for his success in my opinion. Ernesto Hoost is the greatest heavyweight Kickboxer of all time and had a significant size advantage over Mason. His leg kicks immobilized Bob sapp and he had to be carried away. Mason absorbed all of that punishment and went to war with Hoost. Fighting under kickboxing rules can't be an excuse.

Yeah half the muay thai game is clinch work, knees, elbows, sweeps. This guy is raw though. The spinning kick was really underestimated back in the day. Now it’s considered one of the most powerful kicks if done correctly.
No takedowns, no submissions which a thai fighter would get ragdolled easily if they allowed those

We were exchanging back and forth about martial arts and *berry gordons the last dragon" and how he originally was to play in the movie as star but turned it down.. he eas wearing the belt he just won in mexico... He also stated that he was the boxer "sugar shame nosleys brother" but when i review mosley life 25 years later it states he only has 2 sisters.. but this guy was kool and if he reads this hey waddup!! He saw me as the best in the world at the time.. i appreciate him hanging with me

what is this channel now? it used to be pretty good technical breakdowns. with the thumbnails and the Bruce Lee bait it's looking more like kickboxing clickbait for the casual mma fan. in reality this guy could stomp Bruce Lee to death easy, he fights full contact Muay Thai. Bruce Lee had good ideas but he was a camera fighter. so the Bruce Lee comparison is kind of an insult.
there's good info in these if you watch them but to a person like me, who doesn't know nothing about kickboxing and Muay Thai, outwardly these videos look like they're for people at the very base of striking sports knowledge. so I pass over most of them.

When I first started training Muay Thai from a kempo background spinning kicks were my thing as I could get them out as fast and accurate as someone can throw a round kick but in one match I got caught twice in a row in the nuts in the same exact manner as it just seems to be the natural trajectory of most medium round kicks vs spinning back/side kicks and… well… I throw round kicks usually now.

Manson Gibson is so unorthodox, and kind of a goofball. He's very brash, and I imagine frustrating to coach, but seems quite good natured.
I wish Samart Payakaroon was bigger, because that's the fight I would have liked to see in that era.
I've no idea who would win, but Samart's distance management was second to none, which is why it would have been interesting.

His style is what came to my mind as real Panzer Kunst after reading the mangá Gunnm (aka Alita Battle Angel), not what they put in the live action movie. Consecutive and brutal rotating strikes can be effective if the timing is right
