The interesting thing, is the different roofing materials and different types of filth in different countries.
For these reasons the methods are different.
Asphalt tiles are pretty much unknown outside of the US.
In the UK, the vast majority of roofs are either teracota or concrete tiles, here in Australia we have a split of teracota/concrete tiles and steel.
    .
Here in Australia, the roof angles are in general not as steep, a lot of people climb and pressure wash, rope and sefety harnesses are very common here.
I've been climbing on roofs, for various reasns, for over 30 years, yes, i have the safety equipment.
In the UK, most of the guys pressure clean off a scaffold or ladder or from the ground using very long wands.
    .
In general the restrictions on chemical use are much stricter outside the US. This is why outside the US, it is common to scrape, scrub or pressure wash prior to use of any chemical.
As a result we use far less chemical.
I've seen, it is common for guys in the US to have 40 and 50 gallonn tanks of pool chlorine on their trailers & i've seen vids of guys using 10 or more gallons on a single house.
In the UK, a similar house would have had 3, 4 or 5 gallons of chlorine applied as a post treatment with very little run off.
A lot of the guys in the UK use a biocide as a post treatment.
    .
The guys in the UK seen to deal with large quantities of material on their roofs, seriously they will pull wheelbarros of the stuff off a roof.
Disconnecting down pipes is common for them.
    .
There is a definite advantage, to leaving a customer with a clean roof on the day.
    .
With Asphalt tiles, your options are much more restricted.
