#Kia #NIRO #EV - Zábava
This is basically a car for people that want an electric car that handles like an ICE vehicle, but is electric. Someone that does not want a touchscreen to control their car. Lots of people out there where this would be a perfect vehicle for them.
The Mark F. finale was excellent. I wish Arcimoto nothing but the best!
My portfolio appreciate your best wishes 😉
Alas they’re available only in a very limited area. Was looking at buying a Can-Am Spyder RT Limited and wishing they had an EV trike when I ran across Arcimoto. Pretty cool but not the touring trike the Spyder is.
I own this car. LOVE IT. I consider it a well kept secret. Awesome pick-up entering the highway. Great highway range about 250, in town range almost 290, in a warm climate. Unheard of at this price point. We picked up our daughter, son in law and grandson at the airport and drove them and their luggage home, a distance of 100+ miles, comfortably. This is an awesome small SUV and a great way to enter the EV world.
Hey Ho! I agree with this Post and its thoughts. I have a 2019 NIRO, an upgrade from my 2021 IONIQ BEV. And in the matter of parts and service KIA is the clear winner, ditto in price
I laughed my ass off with the Arcimoto song, great presentation. I value having the two opinions of Sandy and Cory. This channel is the absolute best on CZcams. Good luck on your hiring new engineers Sandy and Cory.
Thanks for the kind words!
and the banter :)
Sandy, I’m almost as old as you are and I find using the backup camera on my Tesla much more accurate and easy than turning my head around. That was not true at first. But after a few months of owning the car it clicked, and now I am much more confident backing up using the camera than I ever was without it.
3 cervical fusions so yeah, the rear camera is a Musk.
I’m 74. The back up and side cameras, along with the proximity sensors are winners on our Model S.
Munro: we are not beholden to Kia.
Ok, we’ll see about that.
Sandy: this is a 90s car.
Daaaaamn, you didn’t have to prove it like that.
😂😂
Yeah…. like there wasn’t an understanding they would review the new model in two month celebrating all the improvements. Let‘s not forget this is a business too. And that’s fine. But we are not dealing with stupid business men here - and that’s fine. Beating the prior release shortly before a new release is a classic apple move and standard sales practice. So - stay smart and don‘t fall into black and white thinking.
Very competent "90's car" with excellent EV range.
Cory 😲😲😲😲😲😅😅
@@rogerstarkey5390 Wait til he gets an Ioniq
"that's not our market anymore" This is why Sandy is an absolute beast, he maybe old but he does think like a young man!!!
And he's totally right lol welcome to sci-fi in real life haha it's a new age
model Y $47,000
KIA $44,000
@@fffwe3876 Which one is easier/cheaper to repair and service?
@@jamesvandamme7786 neither
@@fffwe3876 but you can still get $7500 off of Kia I think, unlike Tesla 🤔 the main reason it is selling
Munro is on the short list of places I'd actually like to work.
Send your resume in!
You probably need some serious qualifications
You need a serious ability to see beyond the obvious “this is how it’s done” is adequate anywhere else but these attitudes won’t cut the ice with Cory and Sandy.
too bad I don't live in Michigan...or have 10 years of engineering experience
Make sure to leave out your MBA lol
Our audience is Clapping & Cheering loudly at the Musicians, what a nice Trio and a treat. Thank you all.
That song at the end was epic. Sandy is a legend and it was only a matter of time before songs were written about the great man
Hi, I don't want to sidetrack this thread, but your ESL CZcams channel is excellent, very motivating, and student interviews are very funny.
(Also I cannot leave coments on your channel because of age content)
I am with Sandy on the backup camera. I have my own theory that, those of us of a certain age who use the head turn and mirrors, have our brains wired to think that when our head is facing forward the image behind us should be a mirrored image and the camera view screws with our heads because it is "backwards".
The Niro-EV is sort of a transitional EV; basically Hyundai/Kia getting their corporate toes wet in the EV world. They started building the Niro in 2016, sold as a 2017 model. It was hybrid to start with, and then eventually did full EV. To me, it seems like a test of the water before they really wanted to go full/proper, purpose-build EV. I think that's a sort of play-it-safe approach. I can't wait to see what's changed in their proper, purpose-build EV when you guys get a chance to review it!
And yet somehow they built a car that blew everyone else out of the water in terms of efficiency, range, and price at launch. And reviewers across the board LOVED it. The EV6 and Ionic 5 should really be amazing.
From a marketing standpoint this is smart the name they used for there "EV testcar" could be tainted if they messed it up! Now they have tested the market and they branded it with a new name! Super smart move!
@@patreekotime4578 Yeah, I think they made a very wise choice to do it this way to test the waters. Would have been very easy to transition it back to an ICE build if it had flunked, but it's success and positive reviews told them it was the right direction. I think their choice of making it very "familiar" too in terms of how things worked made for an easier transition as well.
@@jaspervermaas Yeah, someone in the marketing department deserves a raise!
I can't believe neither Cory or Sandy did a quick research to see how old this car/design was...
Ioniq and Niro were produced since 2016 indeed.
The gambler rendition, what a tune.
Glad y’all enjoyed the tune! I wrote the chorus first, and when I realized Sandy was the Builder, well... the verses just sort of wrote themselves :-). Hope I managed to get some of the essence of Lean Design inside a few bars. We made a few tweaks after the stakeholder update when we dropped this, so you can see the final standalone cut here czcams.com/video/8LW1PAOfEWY/video.html
Love the way Cory gives Sandy the stink-eye after the "slimmer" comment
@@ToddKnauer certainly slimmer than I!
It was in retaliation for Cory's comment on Sandy's ability to use a backup camera. Funny stuff.
The back up camera is just for checking if someone’s like a child or animal is behind you. It’s completely correct to be turning your head around when parking and then using the camera for the last couple of inches to make sure you’re not hitting a bollard or lamp post.
The front recharge point caused problems in Norway due to being proned to icing up in winter.
Excellent point! opportunity for improvement , also the door handles ice up too
My eyes got tears of happiness to see your customer's huge appreciation for going through the effort to write that song. Whaoo!
2years? No, Niros has been out for 5 years.
Sandy often overlook the total length to consider how much cargo there is. This car is very short (closer to a Bolt than a Model3)
Sandy: "I still struggle with backup cameras". My 15 year old son who just started driving: "I hate mirrors. I like using the screen and backup camera"
what's important to typical Kia buyer? Styling, tech and human interface, all 3 of which Kia does well. they are fine with 90's engineering
If that's what you're happy with...
Sounds like you are.
Also efficiency, and a decent dealer.
I love the independent review; thank you all for keeping it real.
I have driven over 32,000 miles in my Kia E-Niro and it’s been a very solid performer. It blends in so well no one notices your driving an EV. It’s like driving a car with Harry Potters invisibility cloak over it! I wonder if lt will be the same driving a Model 3? My delivery date is later this month! Cheers for another great report! Mark’s Arci- Munro tribute song is AWESOME!
Model 3 is more stealth in blue, I've noticed.
Watch Tesla Bjorne and you’ll see why charge port in front is a bad idea in snowy climes.

@@rogerstarkey5390 dørk
@EE well, most of the world don’t have problems like this. It’s way handier to have it at the front. Leaf, Zoe - I have both. Super convenient

Use their name, *get it right* barthole..
"Well-executed 90's design!" OMFG!
It's a very much a case of damming with faint praise, but it truly is. As an EV in 1995, this would have been a game changer. Today? It has some value, and has some appeal to a specific market, those who really don't want to change. As an older guy myself, I feel the pull that facet exerts, I haven't driven a Tesla, bu the idea of using the screen for so much of the driving experience is a little intimidating. But the Niro is too far the other way. Yes, the Tesla yoke looks a bit crazy, but the limitations of the Niro is like wanting to stay with using the reins of horse to steer!
I wish Munro had tested the actual range. It is much more than EPA range- mine getting 260-280 miles and Edmunds recently found the same. That's 4-4.5 miles per kW and THAT is good engineering. Love ours more than we thought we would.
Has more legroom and cargo space than all the EVs in its class, we considered, e.g. Kona, Leaf, Bolt. I paid around $34k after rebate. Just could not justify price of a Mach-e or Tesla, or eTron. Kia gives a 10 year/100k mile battery coverage which sold me. Our other car is BMW X1 for performance fun but this drives well.
Well, cars of the 1990's were much more reliable, perhaps it is even a praise!
As a previous owner of two Kia’s, I appreciated the opinions of Sandy and Cory in this review. Outstanding ending with Arcimoto song.
LOL, the backup cameras do take a little getting used to but now I can't back up any other way. Great discussion as always, thanks.
4-4.5 miles per kW is good engineering. Actual range is 260-280 miles a full charge.
This channel is just the best, I've been watching since the beginning and every video is fabulous. One of 3 channels I get notifications for. And the song was an extra piece of brilliance! Hi Munro and team from NZ!
Always look forward to your videos. Thanks again.
I'm a little slimmer than Corey... Corey like WTF Sandy
Sandy obviously has a good (but false) self image in his head. Hahaha
Thank you Sandy and Munro & Associates for all your efforts - but especially your generosity. Later...
What a great song. And as always your review was insightful and fair. Love your work.
I love this series. You guys are going to rock in your future teardowns will be supernovae.
Liked you wrap up of the Kia, enjoyed the Point Counterpoint between you and Corey and the rendition at the end was icing on the cake.....it's gonna be a good day!
Watching every video intently but it feels like the quite before the storm. So hyped for the plaid teardown and future cars you may get to review. I think to many interested in tech/engineering and retail-investors looking to understand who truly is doing what, where, how you are as clean, trustworthy and honest as I have ever seen on CZcams.
hi guys! great episode to watch - thank you! Greetings from Poland :-)
This channel is one of my fav now. This stuff is so good even when it's not about tesla
Thank you for the content. Great music video at the end.
I laughed so hard when Sandy opened the bonnet was like WTF is this
I still find the Collapsing at the sight of the hose mess in the Mach E to be my favorite Sandy moment.
Hood is the correct term for the front of a car. A “Bonnet” is a female hat.
@@Digikidthevoiceofreason in the US. In the UK bonnet is correct.
@@Digikidthevoiceofreason And a "hood" is what the KKK wear!
Oh man I love that tribute in the song. Bravo. Well done. Great video as always.
I really like the tear downs. It’s great to see and hear about the engineering
Great to hear Munroe is expanding a lot! Greets from Europe!
Sandy - You are respected in so many different ways - thank you!
I like your video on the rant, they did a pretty nice job with the song, had to listen to it twice. Keep up the good work.
Awesome stuff as always Munro and team!
thank you, very informative and helpful
Sandy, and the whole team at Munro, another great episode! I appreciate your insights ALWAYS! And yes, fantastic, tear downs should only be BEV’s, the junk hybrid stuff Detroit and Japan want to feed us is yesterday’s news and we no longer care about it (you and your management team are on the right path). And the Arcimoto tribute ate the end was just plain awesome. It just shows how people who embrace the future appreciate you! And a note to Arcimoto, the information you presented via song has made me look into you guys. My wife and I are a two car family with one of the two sitting in the garage and NEVER driven in the past three years but we don’t get rid of it because we think “someday” we will need a second car. I think today I may have found our solution. Thank you Sandy and thank you Arcimoto.
So if you could buy that 3yr old NiroEV it would probably cost at least a third to half less than list. That would make it an extremely attractive vehicle!
I don't think you've tried buying one!
Too bad I’m on the wrong side of the Atlantic, wouldn’t have thought twice sending in my CV (French secret clearance doesn’t help right? ;-) )… Anyhow, keep the videos coming, I love’em, I’m more into electronics and IT by passion and work, but you're among the few who got me hooked into smart mechanical engineering, so thank you ! And happy Labor Day !
Ca alors, c'est peut-etre temps d'ameliorer vos alentours et demenager envers un emploie outre-mers. Riens ne survient sans mouvements. Allez-y c'est le temps de soumettre votre CV. Sorry Sandy / Corey, this person did say he was from France with a high security clearance .. Which is not easy to get in that Country actually. I hope he is convinced to join your team by sending his CV to your HR dept. Sometimes opportunity knocks and people find courage when they least expect it. Good Luck Julien...
@@spuddy4063 I should… tbh, I grew up in Florida, and have been to SoCal, I love the area, where I have a bunch of friends… It’s something I’ve attempted, and even backed up by a (very big) Cupertino based company, harder than getting my clearance ;-) But never say never… who knows what the future it up to ;-) Thanks !
(( PS: clearances, even the ones I had, are mostly background checks that take a few weeks, unless you have a relative who’s been to some fishy country or some weird activity on a bank account, it’s a piece of cake getting it beyond a form to fill with some odd questions ))

Truthfully this Sandy Munro thing could be a real opportunity. I know that I would love it to death. But given my age I doubt that I could survive a heart failure upon hearing the news of being hired.
The MUNRO team are forward thinkers and DO'ERS They seem to boldly go where few know how to open those doors to the future. In any case much luck and be safe out there Julien
@@spuddy4063 Thanks for the positivity ! 💚 I’m gonna focus on moving back to the French Riviera for now and close to my best friends, for my personal balance, the past couple of years haven’t been easy :) Take care
One feature I like to see emphasized is future reliability projections. I like the design features o course but as a buyer I want to know if software problem and updates, body future issues like uneven tire wear suspension strength repair etc, and any drive problems that are not apparent in one short test drive.
Love your channel.
lol I just got an Arcimoto ad like a minute before the Arcimoto song. That was hilarious I hope Arcimoto is filled with good people who listen and empathize. :p
I loved Mark's song, credit where credit's due, congrats all at Munro & Associates thanks for sharing & I'm already an FUV shareholder & will be holding (not investment advice) - what a fantastic EV community we have (less so here in Australia sadly)
You should do some sort of leader board like top gear used to had. Great video guys.
Oww, defentaly a good idea!
Oh. Yeas please.
I second that idea. Sandy’s Leaderboard.
Hi!
Love your show, thanks!
I’ve driven the Kia E-Niro for more then two years, model 2018. I’m very satisfied with the car. The reason I chose the Kia before the Tesla 3 was that Kia could deliver the car almost 6 month earlier. I agree that it’s not the most modern car today but in early 2019 it was not many options.
The trunk is not as bad as you say, I can fit a couple golf bags in there.
One more thing, Ionic 5 is not a Kia, it’s a Hyundai. The next EV from Kia is the EV6. I’ve ordered one and I will get it in late October. Test drive the EV6 ASAP, I believe you’ll find a real competitor to the model Y there.
Best Regards from Sweden.
simply the best..... thanks guys

Our other car is BMW X1 for performance fun but this drives well.
The 100k warranty on battery is a minimum federal requirement on all EV vehicles. I agree though, there should have been a technical analysis on how this “good 90s” vehicle is able to achieve close to Tesla range.
Yes, on road trips on country roads (at about 60 mph) I get almost 300 miles in summer, and only in winter during the coldest periods do I sink all the way close to the EPA estimate. Fantastic car!
Always love your stuff.
You guys are getting the hang of this CZcams thing! Anyways, keep up the great engineering work!
Hahaaa! Great surprise at the end. Please make that a separate video, so we can abuse the replay button. 😂 I loved the song.
OMG I loved my 92 Maxima! 20 years and 256k miles. I’ve been considering this car and this was helpful to hear that comparison.
Loved the Arcimoto song. Portland may have its own set of trouble, but I am very happy I moved to a suburb outside of it. Weather is pretty good, and pace is much more laid back than the NYC area. Munro is awesome, can't wait to see the review of the newer Kia stuff.
Thank you guys.
You bet!
Greetings from Germany, i really like your channel!
I ordered a Model Y but i had to change my plans as it was not available when i needed a car. So i bought a e niro. We are a family of 5 and we drove from northern Germany to Italy this summer (2700 km). It all went fine.
It is possible to enlarge the trunk for an extra of 100l with a few Tricks. There are also frunks available on the second Market. The e niro is smaller than the Model y but it is able to load 420 kg... the Model y made in China is able to load only 300kg! That is a joke.
I really like Tesla and i would like to own one in the future. They have a LOT of pros but also some cons.
Thx for your great work!
Another fantastic video. Thanks
Thanks for watching!

HF from the Netherlands and happy Model3 rider and stockholder :)
Keep in mind if you take press cars from German manufacturers, they specifically take greater care with tighter tolerances, extra paint with less orange peeling, better dampening, etc. It does not accurately represent a normal mass produced vehicle.
And maybe even with tweaked software to have better acceleration at the expense of higher pollution compared to mass produced vehicle? We know they have the ability to.
Can't wait for you guys to get your hands on the Ioniq5. That car looks pretty interesting.
What a way to top off a great video with that tune ☺️👍
You should have the level 2 capable charging port in the front of any car, and the lv3 or maybe lv 4 charger in the back for the shortest run of the most tensioned wire. When you have the vehicle in garage you do not have lv 3 charging anyway.
YESSSS haha I'm so glad they made this song for you guys :)
Thank you all at Munro for helping make the world a better place one teardown and suggestion at a time🙏
I love this channel and also love Archimoto!

Well needless to say it is awesome to see the DREAM Team together making a video. People working together these days is a sight for sore eye's it is a treat that you are both together again making history together. Show's like this make for great viewing and gives me a wholesome feeling inside. Male bonding at it's best .. just kidding Sandy but it is nice to see your team pitching in to make a great company .. Wish more people would take their employee's and enable them to participate.
Good for you Sandy, hope the world around you surrounds you with the bounty you deserve.
To Sandys point about the 3 powertrains on one platform, I think they did pretty well with the EV version. It seems to be rather efficient for what it is.
Chargeport in the front is the worst. It's prone to icing. And you should always back into a parking spot, much more control and much more easy when driving away later.
Reversing out from a parking spot or from charging is easier as you don't have to think about fitting into the spot, so I disagree.
I don't need control reversing out. It's quicker for me.
@@starvictory7079
Not easier, certainly not safer.
Top tip? Learn to drive.
Why pick one? I feel like you could have two or three locations with a plug around the car. That shouldn‘t add that much coper to the overall weight and would help in many edge-cases.
Adding downward tubes into the gas reservoir is harder than adding power plugs, but that shouldn’t limit us.
Why not both? With a chargeport at the back. . . really the back. . . you’d have the possibility of towing a rented power pack for those road trips where range anxiety comes into play. Which would allow for a smaller battery for better economy, room, etc. . .
@@starvictory7079 Quite a few accidents happen when you try to back out of a parking space.......Just sayin.
Love the song, great theme song for Munro Live!!!!!
Thank you!
PLEASE: When reviewing, could you make some notes about car seats in the back and the stroller in the trunk? Loved the review, the Niro was at the top 3 on my list with Bolt and Model 3. We ended up with the 3 for price, range and charging infrastructure. Everything fits inside with lots of room for everyone.
