A nice game from Canada. Mistakes caused all three goals rather than great play or quality finishing (the 1st Canadian goal a really, really bad overcommit and miss by the Japanese defender which the broadcast team didn’t even mention). Fairly happy with the defending by Canada, although Kamal Miller was getting exposed early (he grew into the match). Buchanan looked really dangerous. I’m Mexican and I’m looking forward to seeing Canada in the World Cup. I’m sure Canada is gonna be a revelation in this World Cup and I wouldn’t be surprised if they make it out of the group stage. Canada will give both Belgium and Croatia a run for their money. One of the two Europeans won’t make it out of the group stage.
I'm worried about Borjan's positional play. Also, Buchannan needs to pass the ball quicker to open teammates. Holding the ball works better against weaker opponents. World Cup teams are going to eat him up.
Easier said than done. That's one thing that separates the top players playing for Madrid, Barca, Bayern, PSG, City, Liverpool, etc... from the good players playing in okay sides (like Club Brugge). That decision making, knowing when to release the ball, etc... In terms of individual talent, you'll find it anywhere, even in the 4th division in Romania, but the football brain required to make it to the top echelons is rare. So don't be disappointed if Tajon continues with his play, it's what got to him to where he's at, and it's his ceiling at the moment.
@@awfan221 agree with everything you said, but I'm not sure how many times an open teammate can wait without saying anything. Maybe coach will point that out in video sessions
When Canada qualified for the World Cup l was hoping they don’t change their approach to the game when facing top teams like Belgium. I like the boys and want them to do well in Qatar but l now think they have to defend with a low block,be compact and use counterattacks coz Japan was able to open us up on a few occasions. De Bruyne or Modric can pick that long pass that led to Japan’s first goal all day long, then that Minamino chance together with the other one that hit the post can be converted against the likes of Belgium which is my concern. Overall the boys have to play with confidence and by that I don’t mean dribbling in your own half 😂….Let’s go Canada!!!
I'm afraid you guys - just like the US - are having your hopes to high. South Korea and Japan might have a higher chance to get to the knockout stage the you guys from the least competitive region in the world. Japan was basically scrimmaging 😀😁
What makes me happy, as a Japanese, is that this match alone caught the German media and German soccer people off guard that it would be easy to beat Japan. It is obvious that Germany has learned nothing from the humiliation of four years ago, and they no longer deserve to be 5th world champions if they mistakenly believe that a friendly match represents everything about any national team.
Happy with the result but Canada will need to find a way to hit the target more often if they want to do something meaningful in the group stage. That cheeky penalty shot almost cost them. Go lads go!
for all the canadians who are happy with this result, you will come to realize that the countries play completely differently when they actually get in the group stage than how they play in the friendly games.

I'm sure Canada will play in a low block and play counter. If they played like they did today, then I anticipate Borjan to step up to collect that through ball. It will hopefully be rectified.
@@MrCheddahcheese So they'll get tired and give away free kicks to DeBruyne and Modric. I'm afraid there is nothing they can do to compete with those teams.

All the European's here laughing at Canada...same thing both the USA and Mexico did in the qualifying and look at their records against Canada this year. Just saying!
So Canadian friends, I'm Belgian, do you fear Belgium for your first World Cup match in 36 years? I think the defense is the weakness of Canada and its strength is its attack with the twirling Jonathan David, Buchanan who plays in the Belgian championship and if Davies is ready it can be dangerous.... I think the Belgians will win unless they are overconfident and the Belgian defense is old and slow.
I expect Belgium to have the majority of the play, but Canada can be dangerous on the counter attack with quality up front attackers, as you said... not gonna lie, I pick Belgium to win, but I think Canada can hang in there with them.
Canada just needs to apply their forecheck, get the puck deep, finish their checks and cash in on the turnovers. Goalies's also gotta make some key saves to keep his team in the game. Gonna be a tough one out there but the boys believe in each other and anything can happen.

Morocco won’t be easy but Canada can win. A good Canada can rip off points against Croatia or Belgium but mostly will be against Croatia but 4 points doesn’t automatically qualifies you the next round because the group has nice teams and a surprise can happen.
@@seamusoleary3712 Croatia doesn’t look hard compared to Belgium. A tie or a win against Croatia can happen because this Canadian team plays soccer/football and have the skills they destroyed Japan football skills and they are a competitive team.
1 point from the first 2 matches plus a win in third match is not enough neither for Morocco or Canada, the fact that Belgium and Croatia is playing against each other the last round makes is easier for them they come to the match with (4pts/4pts or 6pts/4pts) and a draw is enough, both qualify with 5pts/5pts or 7pts/5pts, coaches will want to give rest some key players for next round and both teams won't take risks as they both know they can qualify in case of draw, as result if Morocco and Canada want to qualify they need at least 2 or 3 points from first 2 games not 1 point. Ps: the qualifiers from this group will face Spain and Germany, no need to top the group.
@@matija5555 Canada finished 1st doing a great qualifying process definitely can rip off points against Croatia the only factor is the experience. No Davies is super concerning. Good the team played well together, but Davies really makes a huge impact. Hope he can be fit for Belgium or Croatia at the very least
Japan has a shaky defense. Not gonna go well vs Germany in their first match if they don't improve their defense. But that penalty. Darn. Gonda got a touch to the ball from that cheeky penalty. Such a waste.
Belgium seems to underperform in WCs so hopefully, that occurs again and we can catch Belgium cold for the first game. If we get at least a point, we would be in good shape. If can get a point against Croatia then we would have a great chance for at least the second spot. Could very well come down to goal difference. It's why I think Canada will play a low-block to avoid high scoring games and control their GD as much as possible
@@MrCheddahcheese Belgium finished 3rd in the last world cup (were eliminated by France in the semis). They beat Brazil. In the one prior to that they at least made the quarterfinals. I would not call that underperforming. Relative to some people's expectations for them, sure. Relative to the field as a whole they have kicked ass. We'll need max effort and some luck to have any chance of even coming close to tying them. They have arguably the best goalkeeper in the world and top 5 player in the world in DeBruyne. Canada has made massive progress in the last 4 years. Going from being ranked 100th in the world to qualifying for the world cup. Beating the U.S., Mexico and Japan are things that I didn't think would be possible 4 years ago. Croatia and Belgium are different beasts. If Canada can even compete I'd be delighted. I think we should all take some time to just appreciate where we are now relative to the past. It's truly incredible.
@Rob2380 Canada is just as good as Egypt and they just beat Belgium 2-1 in Belgiums last friendly. It's not going to take luck... just have to play a sound game plan and capitalize on opportunities. The opportunities will come with Davies, David and Buchanan up top against Belgiums slow and aging back line... plus, Herdman is a phenomenal coach.
@@nealanderson9719 DeBruyne made a costly mistake and gave the ball away in that game. In the Japan Canada game, Japan hit the post in the 89th minute and it took a penalty in the dying seconds in order to win. There is luck involved in pretty much any soccer game. Saying luck will be needed is not a slight, it's a reality. I get that you are comparing rankings between Egypt and Canada, but Egypt is way more clinical in the final 1/3 than Canada. Up until this season Mo Salah had the best offensive seasons of any striker in the history of the Premier League. We do not have someone on our team that finishes in the top 5 in Balon D'or voting or who has led the Premier League in goals (Ligue 1 ain't the Premier League). Also more African teams are ranked in the top 50 in the world than teams in CONCACAF. Egypt due to proximity plays more friendlies against European teams and Asian teams, so their ranking suffers as result of that. Kind of like how the U.S. and Mexico's rankings benefit from weaker competition. They are both overrated. Canada had 17 shots against Japan and only 3 were on net. Uruguay had 4 shots against Canada and scored on only 2--the two that were on net. We are in a group with teams that have players who are far more clinical in the final 3rd--both in terms of passing and scoring. Yes we have the speed a 4 x 100 relay team up front and that's a major asset. We are going to be playing competition well above what we usually play. When we played against Uruguay they just sat back, let us have possession and just picked their spots. Like Uruguay, Belgium and Croatia don't need many opportunities because they are way more clinical. They also have DeBrunye and Modric running their shows. Again, I'm not saying we can't get results. It will take max effort and attention to detail. One blown coverage can lead to goals for the opposition. We literally saw that against Japan and Uruguay.

Because this is just a friendly. The big stage is coming right after. Their World Cup match against Germany is in 6 days. If they play with their first team, a crucial player could get injured
This is a last minute test match for the second string players, to see if any of them is up to mark to face bigger teams or can come off the bench later

that was a stupid penalty and he wouldve looked stupid if it was saved.. taking that kind of penalty does not increase his chances of scoring, its arrogant
Hopefully the boys get rid of some of the nerves once they see the real games starting. GO CANADA 🇨🇦 ❤ Today you play a friendly, next you play the world 🌎
Please stop saying "Oh Canada Oh baby". It makes me want to watch the world cup in a foreign language.
You seem more confident in Canada than I am or were you referring to the fact that Morocco was going to get out of group stage lol?
@@songcramp66I think Belgium is going to smash us tomorrow just like Germany is going to smash Japan.
I'm worried about Borjan's positional play. Also, Buchannan needs to pass the ball quicker to open teammates. Holding the ball works better against weaker opponents. World Cup teams are going to eat him up.
I agree. Time for Borjan to get into Fifa world cup mode
He's not getting any younger.
Good point
Canadas defence and goalie needs to get tuned up asap of Belgium and Croatia will tear them apart
Cavallini is a lucky, lucky guy.
And a v overrated player
We will need a little bit of luck against teams like Belgium.
that first goal by Japan was like a karate kick in mid-air. Pretty sweet. Canada needs to mark better
Looks like Miller got caught watching the ball instead of the man.

The defensive play has to improve a lot for us to have a chance against Belgium and Croatia.
I'm afraid you guys - just like the US - are having your hopes to high. South Korea and Japan might have a higher chance to get to the knockout stage the you guys from the least competitive region in the world. Japan was basically scrimmaging 😀😁
Nice warm up win for the World Cup by Canada.
I think Japan has about the same chance of winning against Germany as Canada has against Belgium but good luck anyways.
this aged well
Go Canada I proud of you guys
Happy with the result but Canada will need to find a way to hit the target more often if they want to do something meaningful in the group stage. That cheeky penalty shot almost cost them. Go lads go!
Well played team Canada
Why is it that the Canadian and American commentators always speak like they're at a hockey game. Makes games unwatchable.
You are right, so weird
for all the canadians who are happy with this result, you will come to realize that the countries play completely differently when they actually get in the group stage than how they play in the friendly games.
So would Canada you mean.

@@StephOMacRules hiii, was Canada ready?
As someone who plays soccer, we may have come out this game with a positive result, but based on the highlights, our defense looks extremely vulnerable and week, which wont fly against KDB and Modric throughballs

Well done 🇨🇦 too much negativity in the comments, even if Japan had less starters… years ago we would have never dreamed of winning.
It’s true our team is much better, but Belgium is one of the best teams in the world. Realistically we have no chance winning
Great match neighbors 🇨🇦🤝🇺🇲 you to samurai blue 🇺🇲🤝🇯🇵
Cavallini better not try that bullshii during the tourney🤣
Belgie zal makkelijk 5-0 winnen. Canada is een ploeg met MLS spelers - vergelijkbaar met tweede klasse van Belgie.

Morocco won’t be easy but Canada can win. A good Canada can rip off points against Croatia or Belgium but mostly will be against Croatia but 4 points doesn’t automatically qualifies you the next round because the group has nice teams and a surprise can happen.
Croatia didn't exactly look like world beaters beating Saudi Arabia 1-0.... I know it's just a friendly, but they look beatable.

Croatia doesn’t look hard compared to Belgium. A tie or a win against Croatia can happen because this Canadian team plays soccer/football and have the skills they destroyed Japan football skills and they are a competitive team.
I’m Croatian but this is just friendly my friend and Japan is not a good team and this was japan b team…
@@matija5555
Canada finished 1st doing a great qualifying process definitely can rip off points against Croatia the only factor is the experience. The statistics says that Croatia got beat up by a Concacaf team like Mexico at a World Cup 2002 WC qualifying as 3rd place and then qualifying for the 2014 WC through play offs I do believe Canada will rip off points against Croatia.

Japan has a shaky defense. Not gonna go well vs Germany in their first match if they don't improve their defense.
But that penalty. Darn. Gonda got a touch to the ball from that cheeky penalty. Such a waste.
Canada has the squad to go deep this WC
Please don’t let that player take a penalty in the World Cup.
I'm actually glad we're playing Belgium in the first game. Hopefully they're not on their A game 😂
Sometimes it takes world beaters to play a few games before they are in form!

Canada was solid but Japan could’ve taken that one home. Great game
its football anyone could win a one goal game.... but we out possessed them, out shot, and won in the end against a good Japanese side
Canada had way more chances Japan just had a couple better ones, I think Canada generates a lot of offense but they don’t have a lot of powerful shooters
Of course Japan could have won despite the fact that Canada outshot them 17 - 7 and had more possession. That happens in football.
