  • I bought my first EV, a Kia EV6, a little more than a year ago, and in this video I'll be going over my experience, impressions, likes, dislikes, and what makes the EV6 the best electric vehicle available.

    Good to see an Aussie update :-). We have ours now for a bit over 4 months, EV6 AWD GT-Line in Red. We are even better off as we have a large solar system now and with 6000km on the clock have spend only $13.55 so far in "Fuel". Haven't seen the "Zombie" mode, so might not be an issue on a 11-2023 (MY24) model. Ours is suppose to get around 420km range and we work on a realistic 350km range. Ours does about 18.2KW/100km as we literally drive out of our place and within 500m ~ 800m are on the Motorway where we do 110km/h. So it uses a bit more due to the speed most of the time. So far we have had zero issues with the car.

      Hey, thanks for watching! Having a big solar system definitely helps. Mine is big enough to power the house, but not the car, so I still have to rely on SA's grid.
      After crashing my Skoda, the insurance gave me a new Skoda Kamiq (light petrol SUV) as a rental car and my wife, who is the primary driver of the EV6, constantly comment on how much she doesn't like the engine noise, vibration, and gear changes of the Kamiq. She keeps asking me if I am looking at an EV to replace our Skoda. Unfortunately, the only EVs in my price range are older Nissan Leafs with batteries that degrade in hot weather. So my replacement will likely have to be ICE for the time being.
      Thanks again for watching and for providing your own experience. If you're interested in what the EV6 is like to road-trip, I also have videos of my epic Adelaide-Brisbane drive. Thanks!

      @@amperformance7998Very much the same. We replaced a Skoda Superb with the EV6 and the wife is the main driver of the EV6 as she is still working and I recently retired. I had for the majority of my working life a work vehicle, so my personal 2nd car was always some older car that my wife would turn her nose up if she had to drive it for any reason.
      Right now our 2nd car is a Camry 2006 model which sees being used once or twice a fortnight...if you are lucky. We have taken the EV6 from Port Macquarie area to Coffs Harbour on a number of occasions and this is where we tried a Super Charger at Macksville on the way back once, just to make sure that we know that it works.
      This is where the cost of $13.55 came from that I mentioned. We had 52% SOC left in the car and charged to 80% SOC. We went inside the service station to grab a coffee on the go and when we came out..the car was charged :-). It peaked at 233KW going in...so call me impressed.
      At home we charge at 7KW, but that can go up and down, depending on house load and clouds etc.
      The wife does a round trip to work of around 60km and a bit more if she does any shopping on the way home. So far the lowest SOC the car has seen is 42% and we just charge up to 80%. Only charge to 100% SOC if we go on a longer trip like Coffs Harbour which it makes on a single charge no matter how much aircon is used, and the entire trip is at 110km/h. I have run "Car Scanner" on the car and it shows all 190+ Cell packs to be the exact same Voltage, down to 10mV exact. Cell difference 0.00Vdc :-).
      So we know that we have got a good cell pack. This also gives me a base line to keep an eye on Cell degradation as time goes by. We will be keeping this one for a long time...7+ years, unless something major goes wrong.
      In the next 5 ~ 8 years we might replace the Camry with a possible Hybrid SUV like a Toyota REV4 or similar as at this stage I like to keep my options open until the charging network improves a whole lot more.

    That zombie mode you described seems like when you are not pressing the brake hard enough. That mostly catches me out when changing direction. I brake hard enough to stop the car (at low speed) but that is not hard enough to trigger the brake lights or tell the gear logic that the brakes are pressed

      It could be, though it doesn't explain why the problem persists even after turning the car off and restarting it several times. It seems the only thing that clears it is turning off and waiting 5-10 mins or removing the negative battery terminal.
      Fortunately, I haven't had any further issues with Zombie Mode since releasing the video. Thanks for watching!

      Yeah, American and Euro reviews are great, but they can't provide that little bit of local context. Thanks for watching!

    the settings of your headsup display are stored in memory..so if you set it up push te memory button it locks it up together with seats and mirrors….

      I think I did that when I first got the car, but maybe I set the seats and mirrors before setting the HUD. I'll try resetting it all.

    Where is the mute alert stuff?

    • @amperformance7998
      @amperformance7998  Před dnem

      Go Settings > Sound, then scroll down to Driver Assist. You can adjust the volume of the driver assist alerts, and can select haptic feedback, ADAS media volume lowering, as well as reverse volume lowering.
      I keep the haptic feedback and the reverse volume lowering turned on as I find them helpful and not too annoying.

    What's the depreciation cost of the vehicle now?

    • @amperformance7998
      @amperformance7998  Před 16 dny

      A cheeky question, considering 1.5 years is the worst time for depreciation on any vehicle. Especially if it is running higher than average kms. In addition, changes in the current used car market are increasing depreciation rates on all cars right now.
      The only official numbers I could find were in an article from late 2022 which suggested EV6 depreciation over 3 years should be pretty typical of all cars at about 54% retained value.
      A rough valuation from carsales.com.au suggests it currently has a retained value of about 63%. For comparison, a similarly priced and specced Kia Sorento had a retained value of about 68%. So the EV6 is a little worse, but not dramatically so.
      However, it is important to reiterate that this moment in my ownership is a uniquely bad time for depreciation. And more importantly, depreciation is only a thing if you sell the car. My last new car, the Skoda Octavia mentioned in the video, I owned for 9 years, and only replaced it because an inconsiderate ute driver ran a stop sign and destroyed it. Like the Skoda, I plan on keeping my excellent EV6 long term, so in reality, my cost from depreciation has been $0.
      But, for anyone who is considering an EV6 and is worried about short-term depreciation, I've read that Kia has announced a value guarantee program moving forward, likely as a result of the currently unstable market.
      Thanks for watching.
