Fitting that the game about the frivolity and opulence of the French Aristocracy priced itself accordingly
Let them play with cake tokens.
@@danhenry9108 I think you mean, let them eat cake tokens. Make sure to chew for a few minutes first.
@@Outrun37 Quinns has been eating tokens for years now--and look at him now!
Fitting, hehe.
After all this time SUSD’s honesty is still refreshing.
I know after 2mins that I’m not going to buy this game but I’m still going to kick back and enjoy the frivolity of this review.
It feels weird to see that some of our donation money goes to Quinns' lavish living space. I mean, did you guys see the size of that box? Tom barely has one.
His wife has a job, no kids
@@Cutieyum4 I heard his wife works in the Cardboard box mines of Brighton for Thruppence an hour.
I can't even afford to watch this review.
I can't even afford to pay attention. :'(
I've only seen it at 205 Canadian here in beaverland...
As soon as he showed the price and some alternatives that offer a similar experience, I pressed the like button and am currently taking a quick detour through the comments before noping out of the video :D
@@OlivierBL $197 for deluxe + with metal coins in Ontario
@@theblart4196 yep, thats still too expensive lol
The irony of the "I sleep in a box" gag played in front of a giant picture window with a towering, commanding view of half the bloody planet.
The ivory tower of reviews
I mean, huge props to Eagle Griffin for driving a further wedge between the outrageously wealthy and the irrepairably impecunious. That's so Rococo!
I am the person with Rococo and Vinhos on the shelf, and I trully laughed out loud with that bit because that's the face/feeling I get everytimeI walk past them.
Watching milk being poured over those pennies unsettled me
Even worse: it was probably oat milk.

We bought this game as a 2020 sucks treat (or whatever other thinly veiled excuse you want to insert) for ourselves, and absolutely agree that it is wonderful, unnecessarily over-produced, greatness. Everyone that has played this game has been surprised at how much fun it has been.
If they could have even just split the difference by cutting out the jewel expansions and organizers etc and priced it at $79, it would have been far more worth it.
I’ve watched this review like five times to help justify my purchase.
*children chorus of joy* "Shut up!" Was a real winner, thank you.
Just wanted to say, team momary, was where it's at...
Buying this game would leave me broke like Momomomo in the collision.
Quinns rewards himself with the big box expansion...
Oh my CZcams recommendations, board games in a theme I absolutely would like, tell me more magic board game man
How many shots did that phone box trick take, I must know
To find you here explains a lot
Probably one or two. If you balance the lid almost straight up, it takes next to no force to get it to fall down
It was done in reverse
@@simm4633 ha ha ha ha 😄
Yesterday i listened to the OSPodcast episode where you said you love board games and now i find you here lol
It looked like the box was about to fall over at the end with Quinns inside! what a cliffhanger!
I did wonder if they cut the video before it did.
Haha, thought the same: ooh this looks like it's going to hurt!
Quinns is slowly transforming himself into a human meeple. Eventually he'll be crawling into an apartment sized board game box.
“Geezer of money”!?! Would that be Scrooge McDuck?
"and after this review it's going straight"... Out of stock immediately probably 😂
Not at this pricepoint ... probably.
Quinn's face at the bit about placing this game next to Vinhos on your shelf gave me a hearty laugh.
The face at 12:18 is most definitely the face of a man in peace with the world
Re-watching this 2 months later and Just noticed Etherfeilds being used as a small table in the intro.
The most interesting thing about this video is learning that Cool Ranch Doritos are called "Cool Original" in the UK. Do you guys not have ranch dressing over there, or what?
No ranch dressing, no ranches.
@@tomgp very little dressing, if we can avoid it ('specially now we're wfh)
Literally what is ranch dressing? (I mean presumably it tastes a bit like the Doritos flavour)
@@janosbornemisza1807 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranch_dressing. TLDR: mayonnaise-based salad dressing that, yeah, tastes kinda like the Doritos flavor except way less salty. In addition to putting it on salads, it’s often used as a sandwich spread or a dip.
"Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?" is the line from the witch that i think you were referencing. Not luxuriously.

OMG I had that exact rabbit bowl growing up!!!!! QUINNS!
So did I! Bunnikins fans of the world unite!
(You can still buy the range from Royal Doulton, my oldest daughter, now 26, was also bought it by my Mum.)
I was not expecting a VVitch reference. Great movie.
Guess who's back? Back again? Quinns is back. Tell a friend.
Guess who's back?
And so is Leigh. Or, at least, Leigh's arm.
NPI is back too. Thank you, god of boardgames

Loving the continuity with the Etherfields box at the start. I might also be nuts enough to buy this, space is tight and quality over quantity has become more of a motto these days.
Happy new year Quinns, and congratulations on the new box! You deserve something nice after 2020

Happy new years susd :)
I was waiting so long for a new episode! :) Love the intro with the box btw
I actually remember thinking when this was being kickstarted that I didn't like the idea. I own the original Rococo and it's a solid £40 euro game with standard euro game components, but I never felt that it should be a £100+ giant box with frills upon frills.
Same here. I have the original edition and it is one of my top ten played games. I don't mind splurging for a deluxe edition if it add a lot of bling to a great game but this deluxe edition does not really add much to what is already in the original game. i replaced the coins with some wooden ones I picked up for $20 and you really do not need much more as a quality-of-life improvement.
Came here to say this. Its a great $40 game. Not so much at double that.
@@ChibiFlashify but what about triple!? :D
Understandable, but that decision is a much easier one when you already own the game.
@@davidmartinez8304 Indeed. For me the question is; do I ever want to play this acclaimed board game
$1 on the shot where the thumbnail pic comes from being accompanied by Quinn saying 'Ooooh'
"Like a pair of feet into a single expensive stocking"
Quinns this is a family show!
LOL’ed
Feels like Quinn’s was trying reeeeeeally hard at the end not to say that the deluxe expansion was “extravagant” and therefore have folks expecting Matt to appear for some French home cooking 😆
"It's like being set into a boxing match against a basket full of bats"
I’m so glad I ordered this 4 hours before this video went live.
Always love your videos, they always inspire me to work on my game that hopefully one day you will review and play on your channel! 😁
Hell yeah new Su&sd videoooo
I love the continuity the intro implies
I have a set of that Peter Rabbit dishware! I actually ate out of it as a kid and now that I have a daughter they've been passed down to me.
Poor Cornwall.....where’s Poldark in his velvet when you need him?
Please do a review of "Paleo" ... that's a game right up your alley
And here I foolishly thought, "Sure I'll watch this video; I'm not going to want this game."
Oh the rabbit bowl. I had one of those as a kid.
Who else expected his New Year's present to be an even bigger, fancier Crokinole board?
Fresh off the printers. This video smells delicious.
Leigh cameos are always good for a laugh.
Quinns is back from the dead how fantastic.
Lol that opening shot!
That angel wing begonia is the picture of health
If I buy this game I too shall have to live in a box.
They're back!
THEY SUGGESTED BRASS BIRMINGHAM!!! YEAAAAAA!
Once a year Quins says ‘gauche’ in a review and it warms my heart
I always enjoy a Leigh cameo.
What did I miss, why is he ending all these recent reviews by putting himself in a box?
My friend, this may not be Qing China in 1899, but this is a boxes rebellion.
@@ifnyou history jokes!
I'm watching this video twice.
Oh man... I hoped the first review of the year was Dune Imperium :(
Guess i'll have to wait.
I mean they just did a Dune review, and honestly I wouldn't expect an Imperium one until a few months later when a new trailer for the movie comes out or something
I'd actually guess they'll do it after the upgrade pack comes out.
But no one needs to tell you to buy that game
@@benanderson46Of course not, i'll buy it regardless of them recommending it or not. I loved the last dune review sketch, so i wanted to see what they'll come up with this one
@@GretSeat Yeah i guess that's true now that the movie has been delayed, but i wouldn't call august 2019 "just did" haha
New intro for logo is nicee
Ah, I see from your cardboard box that you went All-In on Marvel Zombies.
Option 3. Purchase the old edition. I prefer the art and picked up a copy still in shrink wrap second hand for 1/3 of the price of the Eagle Gryphon edition. I even found some of the dress add-ons for $5. True, it doesn't have the Jewelry expansion, but I can live without that.
You got lucky then! I haven't seen anything under 1/2 price the deluxe edition
@@michaelrichard1320 Actually, it is a game that I see used more often than I would have thought. The prices on online boards and forums in Canada (e.g., Kijiji.ca or Facebook groups) are usually around 35-55 CAD (approx. 28-44 USD). The price skyrockets if it includes the Jewelry expansion. If the seller is local, there are no shipping costs. For comparison, the Eagle Gryphon edition sells for 146 CAD for the Basic Deluxe and 170 CAD for the Deluxe+ version before taxes, which adds 13% (Board Game Bliss used for pricing).
I also see the game offered a lot in math trades.
One of the secrets is to look for non-English versions of the game as the game itself is language independent (e.g., Rokoko or Maîtres Couturiers).
nice review! the mechanic reminds me a lot of Concordia with an equally interesting early, mid, and end game
I will happily stick to my old version and will stay happy to play it over and over again.
Love this video. You exactly said out loud what I think. It is an incredible game but this deluxe remastered edition is way too expensive for what it delivers. I own the original version and extension which are both surprisingly quite unknown... i wish they had edited a fair price to gather more people into it.
I very much expected you were going to say "straight... IN THE BIN" at 0:39 there. I don't know why, that would be silly, and you are a very sensible man usually
Really enjoying Quinns' co-host- disembodied arm that lightly tortures him.
My plan is now to buy the original deluxe edition and burgle Quinns' extra pieces.
Lovely view!!! Getting filmed in front of a mirror clearly adds another perspective ;-)
Nice game, too.
This is one of my most expensive board games in my collection and I really love this game and it's design. You have so many choices and you're not sure who's won until the end keeping everyone engaged throughout.
Although looks overwhelming at the start, once people know the rules they really get into it. It Has impressed even non board gamers.
Because of its presentation and it's pieces it draws people in.
Also what an amazing view from the apartment! :O
Damn that view from the apartment is niiiiiiiiiiice!
I have been waiting for this :DD
Perfect combination: sewing and boardgames!
Also, can affirn, I have a sewing gun lying around.
Great review!
How the hell do you play/cope with a board this size with 3 or more players? Wouldnt the one(s) not sitting at the "bottom" of the board be ad an advantage?
Little shop of horror vibes at 6:08
Great episode!
I can live with the $120 pricetag, I can't do the additional $108 shipping to Australia though
Hats off if you knew tthe Rococo period was Louis XV without looking.
Great review as always, appreciate how much you car for our wallets and value . Speaking of wallets looking forward to your pok review
The view from that apartment, damn
I would love to see Quinns' journey into box fetishism continue in further reviews.
That is a really nice view from the living room.
Great review. Could we get the whole SUSD team into a bubble so they can do some play throughs for us ??
Thanks for the great review and incorporating the relative value equation into your review. For a vast majority of people, we have constraints on money, shelf space and time, so it’s important to compare games with each other on all aspects.
Will you be doing a video review of the new twilight imperium expansion?
I think they mentioned that Matt is going to do this one. And for a short mini review by no other than me: It's fabulous.
Looks interesting but priced out. Thanks for the great review!
This game was brilliant fun. I got it as a gift (otherwise I don't think I could get myself to spend so much on a single game). But wow is it ever beautiful. The artwork is wonderful to look at, you really feel like royalty while you play. The bits are nice to handle, I love the tokens of silk and lace. The outfits that go from the sketch to the actual bit are a wonderful creative touch to the game. I think the game is def worth the money if you got it lying around and don't want more than one game for the cost.
But most of all wow was it fun! I did not expect this game to be such a blast to play. There was a lot to do and many decisions to consider. And the end was an exciting rain of victory points! Very much enjoyed
Quinns, it’s a game called Rococo. Seems apt to fleece people for that.
So freaking good. Love what they've done with the new version. Edit: Yeah I fell for the "Plus" version. Please don't fall for it.
Thank you for the honesty in this review. My local FLGS has this game on the shelf for $185 CDN ($210 tax incl). So although this question is probably answered below. What other games scratch this itch for 1/3 the price as he mentioned. Preferably ones with a solo mode.
This game looks like it fits the time period it is named after. Sheer over the top, too much in one space, think I'll stick with the baroque period.
Yedo would feel like a really nice follow up to this style of review. An older out-of-print game getting a deluxified upgrade / reprint. Outside of the game Steward and a possible late pledge to the recent Kickstarter reprint, I'm not sure how to get a copy though
AAAGH this is one of the first designer games I ever watched played and it's always been in the back of my mind that I'd like to try it sometime (I walked into a board game meetup while people were already playing it). I want it but.... The price....
Vinhos Deluxe was my luxury "spoil myself" game. Eagle Gryphon is really producing top notch games to fill that particular niche. I think it works well with complex games like those by Vital Lacerda or Age of Steam, where the demand is already naturally low. But, perhaps, it isn't as well suited to games that are otherwise more accessible, like this one.
