    Fish and Wildlife to take up to 130 days to assess the effects of the water deluge system on the local wildlife. Hmm, I wonder what impact a severe thunderstorm has... I imagine the fresh water deluge of a heavy rainfall far exceeds that of a rocket launch, especially when considering how much of the water is converted to steam during launch.
    Making Lemonade from Lemons seems to be the philosophy at SpaceX. Take the opportunity of a delay to make improvements.

      Complete BS that the fish and wildlife is waiting till NOW to do their report when they could’ve done this six months ago.

    The fewer things there are that can go wrong on your first flight the better I'd think.

    Maybe removel of the hot staging ring could be to see how many of the native wildlife birds thought it would be a great place to nest, they may want to install a quickly removable cover to keep something like that from happening. Maybe a fish and wildlife thing.

    Looks like the strategy is to take that time and make future changes now. For me it's sad because I really wanted to go watch the next launch before the snow comes up here, since my plan is to do some overlanding on the way down but it's not as fun when there's snow on the ground, maybe next summer I'll catch a launch.

    I have a feeling that engineers thought the hot staging ring was not strong enough to support a fully-fueled starship + aerodynamic loads. I don't think by looking at it that it would survive or be robust enough for multiple launches. I'm sure they've simulated everything and found it to be strong enough, but maybe not with enough safety margin.

    I know that SpaceX engineers know what they are doing, have access to the best computer simulation software available (I assume), and that physical validation tests have been done both on the can crusher and by actually stacking an admittedly unfuelled S25 - but even so I still can't get my head around how that hot staging ring with so many vent cut outs is strong enough to support a fully fuelled Ship plus payload and all at > 1g gravity (because during launch it will be accelerating upwards).
    I am confident that it is strong enough, for all the reasons that I mentioned, but intuitively I just can't get my brain around that fact. I guess stringers are pretty amazing things.

    I wonder if they want to inspect it to see if it deformed while a emptie starship sat on it?

    The safety of the public and the protection of the environment is the FAA first and upmost priority and not a companies personal milestone. Spacex has done a extraordinary job , repairing the orbital launch mount and it's site ,the upgraded water deluge system a magnificent accomplishment in such a short period of time, you have to calculate using more powerful engines into the equation,( here's one of the main catch 22's so to speak) with the FAA and their licensing for the STARSHIP I have studied video's and comments for hours and days. SPACEX stated after the first orbital launch attempt that for a few sec. they (LOST CONTROL)of the STARSHIP we must prove without any doubt that we have (FULL CONTROL) of the vessel. DDM

    Have they done any kind of engine test with the hot stage latched to the bottom of a starship? It would be brief but nice to know the ring didn't pull apart, etc.

    • @themoonman-4
      @themoonman-4 Před 11 měsíci +1

      Good idea, how was that attached? By its weight and small pins, jettisoned on booster return?

    • @satoshimanabe2493
      @satoshimanabe2493 Před 11 měsíci +1

      Wow, that's an amazing thought. The mating interface is identical on both top and bottom of the hot staging ring, so they could easily put it on the Starship test stand and do a static fire. Provided they have made the mod to connect to the QD interface, which will be higher (just like on the OLIT).

    • @huudathot
      @huudathot Před 11 měsíci

      @@themoonman-4 It appears to use the same latches that hold the starship to the booster, so that would be easy. No need jettison on return, it just stays with the booster.
