    And this is why you should NOT create Japanese or Korean names for yourselves you bunch fo weaboos/koreaboos. The story that goes behind each one of these names is much more meaningful than just sounding pretty.
    Anyways I'm not full korean but I still got 슬기/Seulgi (wisdom) as my korean name, only my mom's family call me by that so it feels very personal to me. Didn't like it for most fo my life but I've recently started to think it's pretty

    • @miki2849
      @miki2849 Před 8 lety +4

      ᅲᅲ예림 no you don't, if you're not korean you don't have a korean name unless a korean person gives you

    • @miki2849
      @miki2849 Před 8 lety +6

      ᅲᅲ예림 it's not right still. korean names have meanings behind them, it represents us and our dear families put a lot of thought into them. a lot of us have to go through hard times because people make fun of us for having names like those. you can't just choose a name because "it sounds pretty", you're gonna make this into something small when its a meaningful and deep thing for us. you want a korean name then write your own name in hangeul but don't just invent one on the top of your head and say it's korean

    • @miki2849
      @miki2849 Před 8 lety +2

      ᅲᅲ예림 you must not know enough korean people then. lol you should see what they say behind your back tbh, we all think people like you are koreaboos we just don't go around saying it because it's kinda awkward

    • @miki2849
      @miki2849 Před 8 lety +2

      ᅲᅲ예림 funny how you say it when you're one yourself lol have fun trying to be korean, you'll see how embarrassing you sounded during this entire conversation later on. also pls learn how to properly use honorifics, you've been mixing them up all the time and it's cringy

    • @nfvy8111
      @nfvy8111 Před 8 lety +3

      +ᅲᅲ예림 Also, when you just randomly choose the characters you like and try to mash them together in Asian languages, it almost gives the same effect as if a foreigner tried to mix the name Ashley and Jane together because they like the "ash" sound and also the "ane" sound, producing Ashane. Like yeah, technically you can do that and most people would never say anything about it to your face, but you'd stick out like a sore thumb and it'd be clear to everyone around you that you don't have a true understanding of the language.

    I like listening to this, to see all the effort and thought gone into each and every individuals name, their parents really thought of "what do I wish for my child?" or "what does my child mean/represent to me", it's really cool, and heart warming to know the meaning of each name.

    • @michellea2871

      The idea you have of the term "concentration camp" is flawed. Though those used by the Nazis to imprison their enemies are the most well known types of concentration camp, the term in itself is defined as "a place where large numbers of people, especially political prisoners or members of persecuted minorities, are deliberately imprisoned in a relatively small area with inadequate facilities." If you know anything at all about the Japanese internment camps, you would be able to relate that they fit this definition and thus were in fact concentration camps. Do your research, white boy.

    This is such a cool part of East Asian culture (or possibly other cultures in Asia? This video seemed to focus on East Asian names). To show such care picking out something that will be with your child for so long. Stokre counts to elements to meaning of the words. I know people of Western descent have their own meaning with names (honoring relatives etc.) but this is just such a beautiful practice to me.

      +consultingdetective1 Thanks. I always wondered why Cambodian people would say my name means Tuesday in French when it is spelt differently. Cambodians probably have their own way of pronouncing Tuesday in French.
      It's interesting though because growing up in the U.S., nobody could ever pronounce my name Marady (ma- rah - dee) correctly, so as I grew up, people would actually just call me Mardi (mar -dee) and never Marady. So I guess Mardi & Marady are both my names.
