  • This is the NHTSA NCAP frontal crash test for 2018 Tesla Model 3 (RWD/Long Range)
    The car achieves the lowest probability of injury of any vehicle ever tested by NHTSA.
    NHTSA New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) Frontal Impact:
    The frontal crash test evaluates injury to the head, neck, chest, and legs of the driver and front seat passenger. Crash test dummies representing an average-sized adult male and a small-sized adult female are placed in the driver and front passenger seats, respectively, and are secured with seat belts. Vehicles are crashed into a fixed barrier at 35 mph (56.3km/h), which is equivalent to a head-on collision between two similar vehicles each moving at 35 mph. 1 star is the lowest rating; 5 stars is the highest. More stars equal safer cars.
    Overall Rating: 5-Star
    Overall Front Star Rating: 5-Star
    Front Driver Side: 5-Star
    Front Passenger Side: 5-Star
    Overall Side Star Rating: 5-Star
    Combined Side Barrier and Pole Ratings (Front Seat): 5-Star
    Combined Side Barrier and Pole Ratings (Rear Seat): 5-Star
    Side Barrier Rating: 5-Star
    Side Barrier (Driver): 5-Star
    Side Barrier (Rear Passenger): 5-Star
    Rollover Star Rating: 5-Star
    The rollover rating measures the risk of rollover in a single-vehicle, loss-of-control scenario.

    Euro NCAP tests at 40 Mph with a 40% frontal impact. That is a lot more difficult. This one is relatively easy.
    From their description:
    Frontal crashes are responsible for more deaths and serious injuries than any other accident type. A typical scenario is a head-on collision between two oncoming cars at moderately high speeds. In most collisions of this type, only a part of the vehicle front width structure is involved, i.e. the two colliding vehicles are offset.
    In the full-scale test, the car is driven at 64km/h and with 40 percent overlap into a deformable barrier which represents the oncoming vehicle. The test replicates a crash between two cars of the same weight, both travelling at a speed of 50km/h. Two frontal impact dummies representing the average male are seated in the front and child dummies are placed in child restraints in the rear seats.
    In this crash, the vehicle structure is put to the test. Limited structural engagement may expose occupants to increased intrusions. Crash forces have to be efficiently directed to parts of the car where the energy can be efficiently and safely absorbed. The front crumple zone must collapse in a controlled way, leaving the passenger compartment as undeformed as possible. Rearward movement of the steering wheel and the pedals must be limited if serious injuries are to be avoided.

    • @zolikoff
      @zolikoff Před 5 lety

      Just look at the NHTSA front collision scores of ICE cars in this price range... They're almost all the same rating.
      Look at the crumpling in this Model 3 front... that space left there easily fits the engine. At these speeds crumpling isn't much of a problem.

    • @SDav21
      @SDav21 Před 5 lety +2

      Wow but you are so ignorant. The engine in an ICE vehicle NEVER intrudes into the cabin. It is designed to break away. Lol. You're so silly. Look at every other crash test of even smaller cars. There is absolutely NO intrusion into the passenger space whatsoever which is why basically every single car today has a 5 star rating.

    • @zolikoff
      @zolikoff Před 5 lety +1

      Maybe, although that wouldn't be stopping Tesla. EuroNCAP is voluntary anyway, they could market their car by pointing to the less strict NHTSA safety test, most customers have no idea that there are differences.
      The Model 3 isn't going to be approved for Europe due to design elements though, like the central touchscreen controlling everything. They'd have to make an entirely different, more "traditional" Model 3 design to sell in Europe. And that would go against their ideals.

    • @MrDanielamaral
      @MrDanielamaral Před 5 lety

      No, that is not truth model 3 is on ours websites already with the same caracteristics as american version is a question of time to star selling in our market, and euroncap is not voluntary, every year euroncap select brands and models relevants for our domestic market or one which is particularly important in a certain market segment, then euroncap buy directly and anonymously at least four car required for test on dealership, they conduct the "PROPER" test and publish the results generaly this test will have huge impact on sells in our market.

    I am a huge fan of Tesla and Elon, Evs, but... kind of weird to me it gets 5 stars. Maybe the car is not damaged much, but what about the organs of passengers? The controlled zone of impact here is very short, means, the deceleration force goes into passenger bodies smashing lungs onto the front window... Yes I know the mannequins have impact sensors, but how did they measure how human body would react to such brutal stop? What about the necks, brains, other vital organs?

    • @gusparaguss
      @gusparaguss Před 5 lety +1
