Minelab Manticore 101 - Dealing with unwanted noise

  • The secret to Manticore performance,
Is quite simply, get rid of noise.
There are lots of CZcamsrs putting up crazy settings, claiming the resulting erratic mess is the best way of using the Manticore… I personally think this is rubbish.
The Manticore, Equinox, XP Deus II and Nokta Legend are all fast recovery metal detectors, and all perform better when they are stable with minimum external noise, that can mask faint deep targets.
In this video I show how to minimise not metal target noise, to maximise target recognition… because noise robs good targets!
There are three types of noise; emi, ground and machine.
The best way to run the Manticore, is as quietly as possible. You should only hear ferrous and non-ferrous 'metal' targets, not the noise from ground elements containing ferrites or materials radically different to the grounds mineralisation.
Four steps to eliminate (not mask) noise.
    1. Reduce sensitivity and perform a rolling noise cancel.
    2. Set correct sensitivity, with coil off the ground, so it runs quietly.
    3. If ground is uneven, perform ground balance. (Not what I said in video)
    4. If ground is still noisy because of non-metal contaminants like hot rocks a ceramic shards, use stabiliser.
I hope this helps users struggling with the Manticore.

You said something extremely important about enjoying detecting more when not hearing all the noise. I think most people overlook just how stressful unwanted noise is and put up with it. Over time, I think it becomes harmful and is exhausting to deal with.

I disagree 100%, if you can't hear all the noise then your missing loads, for ease of use make the machine quiet, but I guarantee your finds rate is les than someone with a wide open machine

A great educational video on using the Manticore to its best ability👍 Very much looking forward to your next adventure, hopefully using the 'Manti' on the deep pasture fields🤔

The only detector that I have that can do that is my Whites Spectra V3i, hunting in stereo mixed mode. I am able to hear bad targets(iron) in one ear and good targets in another ear. I am also able to set the tone for iron from as low as 0-255. But setting it higher than 0 is recommended, probably as low as setting it at 5 for iron tone is what I do, in which the tone will sound like a clicking sounding tone. I used to run mine like this before they were all stolen. I did get another V3i but haven't set it up the same yet.
I do have a manticore in my cart and I am considering buying it.

I am a new subscriber and really appreciate the Manticore basics provided. Gonna review rest of channel as I see DEUS 2 in there - Manticore and DEUS 2 are the two newest detectors and I have and trying to learn both at the same time which is probably a mistake. Thanks again.

It turns out to be a very sad situation. Manticore points to the treasure that it is black metal, you pass by, and it turns out that you passed by the treasure. It would be very interesting to hear your expert opinion

hi there. im located in Florida's east coast. i only do salt water beach and i have owned the manticore since january. Just to rectify something you said. the coil is a piece of trash that breaks easily. I have replaced the coil once and i have to replaced again due to uncontrollable noise. Not EMI, not ground conditions but coil instability and bad built quality.

Hi Gordon, I really enjoy your videos, I own a CTX3030, could you please do a video like this for the CTX as it would be much appreciated, I bought the CTX before the Manticore was released so sticking with it, I'm getting used to it but any tips on set up would be great, I'm already using your tadpole and ghost pattern, I'm still digging lots of trash, shallow targets close to surface are throwing me, great signal then discover the small piece of trash within 1 inch of the surface, numbers in the 30 to 40 seem to be rubbish, I've not had many coins in this range, thupence and shillings, wish you could do another series of hoard hunters as I loved them, I have a channel it's not the best it's South Wales Detectorist, thanks Geraint

What are the trade offs with those settings? I mean, does all the extra depth and disc of the MC come at a cost of a noisier machine?
My previous tector was an xterra 705 and honestly I enjoyed the 705 because it was nice and quiet and coins just sounded so crisp and sharp. I want to get the noise down on the MC but then I wonder if I’m reducing its capability to being similar to a 705 by doing so.

I have exactly same experience with the ground like on your video. I can pull over foot deep crotal bell with CTX but when swinging manticore over it’s showing persistent iron target. Any help welcome 🙏🏼

I’ve found that using a higher recovery speed quietens it down as well, any idea why this is.?

    • @IronheartedGog
      @IronheartedGog  Před 8 měsíci +1

      1. Lower recovery rates gives the ground longer to produce noise from mineralisation, iron and other ferrous materials eg hot rocks (because it is going deeper).
      2. In this video the responses are cut short, sounding quieter, once the recovery rate is increased to six. If the recovery was dropped lower the noise would last longer (sound noisier.)
