  • In this tutorial style video I'll show you how to tell if a target is GOOD, or BAD. There are only so many hours in a day, and when you're metal detecting they seem to fly by.
    Maximise your chance of digging more good targets than bad with these 4 easy tests;
    1: Repeatable Test
    2: 3-Way Test
    3: Size Test
    4: Iron Test
    To configure your Equinox metal detector with the same settings I use in this video, please watch this video: • Minelab Equinox 800 - ...

    Another great video! Yes on the bottle caps ringing 22 here in the US as well. They can be quite maddening at times!

      They’re definitely one of the more annoying targets here in Australia, as our $1 coin is also a solid 22 on the Equinox.

    Great video. I have been digging everything, so I find everything. I am getting tired of digging everything so this video has made me realize that I should trust the detector a little more. Solid hits, the depth idea, great stuff, I will try your methods today! Wish me luck!!

      Thanks for watching. Although the target ID numbers have changed with the 900 (0-99), I’m sure the same theories will work - particularly the size test by lifting the coil into the air slightly. Happy Hunting!

    I see you are hunting in Multi-IQ mode. I suggest you check that neutral 16-17 on a single frequency.
    Usually, aluminum pull tabs once they drop a couple of inches into the soil will give a jumpy VDI from 20-29 while Multi-IQ will show a 16-17. If both modes are similar then it is worth the dig.
    If you learn how the different targets react with different frequencies you are going to become more proficient. Since Minelab gives you this feature why not use it?

    • @coilsandcoinsdetecting
      @coilsandcoinsdetecting  Před rokem +3

      Thanks for your comment Dan - it’s an interesting point you make. I’ve used this single frequency test before on 15KHz, 20KHz and 40KHz many times, however I’ve found it to be inconclusive in most cases. Perhaps I need to use it more consistently in order to understand it better. I’ve tried burying known targets such as aluminium pull tabs and ring pulls in an attempt to learn to tell them apart from a 20c piece, however I couldn’t rely on any one test, or collection of tests (including the single frequency test). It’s a work in progress…

    • @danblankenship5744
      @danblankenship5744 Před rokem +4

      I should have mentioned that 4Khz is my go-to single frequency and all that I hunt in. The only other single frequency I will check is 40Khz f I suspect a small gold chain.
      Try this, next hunt do your normal hunt and just before you dig switch to 4Khz and take note of the response.
      If it is trash it will likely give you a simple and clear warning by not agreeing with the Multi-IQ response.
      I have mine set to 50 tones with all ferrous numbers active, but I have set the volume low enough to only give a background grunt. I want to hear this iron so I can justify those pesky false signals that will likely occur. The only VDI numbers I have deleted are those above 36 since these high-piercing tones are nothing but iron that wrapped around from beneath VD! 0.
      If I want to hear these high VDI numbers then I hit "All Metal". Or I can switch to 5-Tones and make these high VDI numbers (37-40) their own region with the volume lowered and the tone a lower number.

    • @coilsandcoinsdetecting
      @coilsandcoinsdetecting  Před rokem +2

      Very interesting. I will most definitely try your suggestion of 4Khz as a target check. Your setup is quite unique, and I’m very interested in giving this a try. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience!

    Will the TIDs be the same numbers on the nox 700?

    • @coilsandcoinsdetecting
      @coilsandcoinsdetecting  Před 15 dny

      The Equinox 700 & 900 have a TID range from 0-100 I think, so unfortunately these numbers don’t line up with that machine. If it’s helpful, 16 on the 800 is around 40 on the 800/900.
