I hate how many people are downplaying the achievement of being the first to free solo El Capitan. It requires balls of steel and years upon years of climbing experience and preparation. It's no wonder why Alex Honnold is the first and only person to have done this.
Definitely. With a bear or tiger, there's a slim chance I might get lucky and poke its eyes out or something. With El Capitan there are dozens of sections that absolutely *require* strength I don't have or techniques I don't know.
Based on the documentary and various interviews, it's fair to say that Alex's brilliance as a climber is exceeded only by his humility. The talent and determination for such an achievement is difficult to fathom. What a fascinating person!
While I really liked the movie and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, I was really just sad for him. He lacks something basic. Hard to say what it is but he is definitely obsessed in an unhealthy way. And the things that are important to most people does not give him anything. I know he has climbed this with a rope many times, so the movements aren’t unfamiliar, however, it takes MASSIVE amounts of skill, courage, and crazy to pull off this free climb.

This will go down at the greatest athletic achievement of all time! I don't see how anyone can top this
Have you not heard about lebron James?
@@forcesphere man I love basketball but you can’t even compare these two
Watch 'The Alpinist'
@@forcesphere lmaoooo get the fuck out of here bruh. You're comparing a basketball player to a climber that just climbed a 3,000 foot tall rock wall without a fucking rope on? Fk off lmao
I have nonstop chills. This is human skill, commitment, bravery at its limits.
There is a fine line between brave and stupid.
This is the single greatest athletic achievement ever. Period. Michael Jordan wishes he could have Alex's mental focus. Chuck Norris probably wears Alex Honnold pj's to bed. Falling from the top would mean about 25 seconds of free fall. Incredible
This achievement will never be surpassed. Unbelievable.
Watching him do the kick on the boulder problem never fails to give me a panic attack
that "good to see you again" hits different
He's the GOAT, I mean that literally, he is literally a goat.
Nah he’s Spider-Man
Had to train for a couple months to watch this
When my hands are too dry I just watch this video. It always works
FACTS lol
This remains the greatest feat by any single human.
I know its been said before, but I genuinely can't think of another physical accomplishment as physically, mentally, and emotionally daunting as this. I wonder who will be the next to try soloing El Cap.
I hate how many people are downplaying the achievement of being the first to free solo El Capitan. It requires balls of steel and years upon years of climbing experience and preparation. It's no wonder why Alex Honnold is the first and only person to have done this.
I would fight a bear or tiger before doing this.
My chances of survival are exponentially higher against the tiger or bear.
may as well likely a better chance of surviving, but for sure would be one hell of a story if you did!
both seems a bit much, no? xD
@@scottstorchfan lol
Definitely. With a bear or tiger, there's a slim chance I might get lucky and poke its eyes out or something. With El Capitan there are dozens of sections that absolutely *require* strength I don't have or techniques I don't know.
The shoes and shirt and chalkbag he wore should be preserved at the Smithsonian. No one is going to replicate this.
This is the greatest athletic achievement of all time and it’s not even close. Man stood in a firing range for 4hrs and lived
I still cannot wrap my head around this
Greatest athletic achievement in history
Based on the documentary and various interviews, it's fair to say that Alex's brilliance as a climber is exceeded only by his humility. The talent and determination for such an achievement is difficult to fathom. What a fascinating person!
While I really liked the movie and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, I was really just sad for him. He lacks something basic. Hard to say what it is but he is definitely obsessed in an unhealthy way. And the things that are important to most people does not give him anything. Anyways, he will surely die doing what he loves which I guess is a good thing.
I feel physically ill watching this. INCREDIBLE.
I know he has climbed this with a rope many times, so the movements aren’t unfamiliar, however, it takes MASSIVE amounts of skill, courage, and crazy to pull off this free climb.
he acutally memorized every single move and planned his exact movements to perfection for years
Forget wingsuits. This is the most extreme sport in the world.
The single geatest athletic feat in human history.
Very true, I am amazed every time I watch this. Wow😰😱😰
Absolutely not. Maybe the dumbest athletic feat in human history though…
How so much mind control 🤔 to over come the thought of falling, one slip and it's over. This guy climbs better than a 🐐🐒
@@nightwolf912this guy’s brain is defective, essentially like a sociopath.
@@zytroncsname something greater smart arse
Impressive, this man managed to climb all that way up while carrying two huge balls of steel
It’s probably one of the greatest single human sporting achievements ever in history when reflected on.
No one is ever likely to try this again nor have the skill/mindset close to taking it on. Truly a once in a lifetime moment.
No kidding. I have to get amped up just to clean my gutters out.
@@adamterry1476 hahaha
The single, greatest accomplishment ever in climbing/sport or whatever. I've no idea how technically difficult that traverse is to other sections of the climb, but the shot there of him hanging of the face doing it is just incredible. One slip and he's a goner, absolutely wild and I salute him x
Nothing unusual, just the road my grandpa took when he went to school everyday
And back home too!
in the snow
With his 50 pound backpack
Hands down the single most impressive feat mentally and physically in human history.
Also one of the dumbest. The amount of people that died due to the buzz of this documentary, trying to replicate something so ungodly foolish to even attempt, is heartbreaking.
ALTHOUGH, I do agree with what you said as well.
@@limitedhangoutliveThey said dont try this at home tho.
@@limitedhangoutlive Yes.. but if anyone died trying to free solo because of this documentary, it's on them. It's not up to other people to ensure the safety of idiots with an ego, deathwish or lack of common sense. You're talking about this like its the fault of Alex Honnold or the Free Solo directors.
Are you going to start blaming John wick for people who accidentally shoot themselves with their new gun. Are you going to blame knife manufactorers every time theres a knife murder.
Sorry to say, but sometimes you just need to blame the person, not the thing that influenced them.
@@limitedhangoutlive And what is that amount? Almost no one free solos to begin with, and the few that do are generally very experienced climbers that have been climbing for a very long time. Teenagers aren't running out to free solo after watching the documentary. The risk is simply too high, and the average person has nowhere near the skill required to even attempt it.
physically no.
I dunno how many times I have watched this… each time I shake my head in disbelief, and then come away with a little bit more of inspiration to tackle my own smaller earth bound more mundane “cliff faces”…… the single most individual focused act of skill strength and raw courage all combined into ONE SUPREME MOMENT of effort when a Human is a a solitary creature in the Cosmos but in the joy of Full Flow, an inspiration for each one of us to invest, practice, seek and find the Flow Moment in each of our lives ..
I have played a lot of sports, some at a decent level, but I am not a climber, just done odd scrambling here and there. Having seen many many sports played at their highest level, I consider this to be the greatest ever sporting achievement.
no human can come close to this. this is beyond comprehension
Seriously, even seeing the footage and knowing he did it, it still doesn't seem humanly possible. Has to be one of the greatest human feats in history.
The mountain goats probably consider him one of their own
To me, this makes guys like Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky etc. look like pedestrian mortals in comparison. Nerves of diamond on this dude.
To this day
To me this is the greatest physical human achievement of all time and nothing else comes close
shutup
My man is the GOAT. No category needed.
Literal goat
It’s interesting how we’ve evolved to where at least one human is capable of climbing up a mountain with only chalk
The greatest physical feat in human history by far.
You all need to see the full documentary feature. What's missing in snippet clips like this are the multi-years mental, physical, and technique preparations and trainings that Alex did before he felt ready to free solo El Capitan. He also had his friend the legendary Dawn Wall climber Tommy Caldwell helping him in trainings.
