Congratulations! You just had a near-life experience.
look at the set of balls on this brother DAM!!!
If you say you are perfect..then put your life on the line
Practice not until you get it right; practice until it is impossible to get it wrong. Hugely inspiring.
This guy has a kid. The most reckless and irresponsible thing ever.
LOL.. this was done 4 years +- before his first kid was born.. second it was fairly easy climb for him, he spent multiple years projecting and climbing this wall, knowing all the moves he can make it without any problems.. last but not least he made hell of a money from that Free Solo movie
when you don’t know anything about alex but try to put ur two sense in 😭😭
why are you just commenting without knowing anything you absolute tool.
Absolute sheltered fool who knows nothing 😂😂
his only rival is death. best athlete of all time.
Micheal Jordan >>
suicidal athlete*
@@sytincer5708Micheal Phelps easily better athlete than Micheal Jordan
14 years olds training in anime be like
This is incredible, but only in the sense that he has no fear of death, so he needs no safety net. I'm sure if other climbers let go of that fear, they would be able to do the same thing.
Fact is no one else has, that's what makes it so special, they did a brain scan of him and the portion of his brain that processes fear is lesser in his brain, it gives him a natural advantage, same way Phelps had a natural larger lung capacity, he processes fear differently, he is built different and that's why he was the first to do it
@@breandanhamon1243 Makes a lot of sense. Incredible.
This is incredibly inspiring
3:07 that bird would scare the shit out of me
Honestly, I could easily do that. Ya know, if i knew anything about climbing and wasn't scared to death of heights. I have watched this a dozen times and my palms are still sweaty. On second thought I think I'll cross climbing El Cap off my bucket list.
How did they film this, drones and big lenses on the ground?
A guy who climbed in front of him with one hand and the other hand with the camera. Pretty insane
there is several behind the scene clips on you tube. is insane to look at
i wanna do this before i die, but my palms too sweaty, would need a big bag of chalk powder
you wouldnt make it not even close
rly funny
Bring some of mom’s spaghetti
@@collectivecha0sHe’s nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready
Imagine you get to the top of the mountain from the trail on the other side and then you see a guy pulling himself up with no strap or any equipment 😂 and he’s probably just like “what’s up guys”
Truly amazing
I hate this but I can’t stop watching
If you notice there's vertical fusion cracks all the way up it's more cardio and stamina than real climbing skill...🤔
What....
You must be retarded..
alright if its so easy do it yourself
Cool story bro
How do they get down? Genuine question from a non climber here. At least going up you see ahead.
There is a hiking trail on the other side
I don't think there's an option of going down when you're free soloing mountains. Once you reach the top, you either hike down a different route, or rappel down.
There’s only one quick way down that’s for sure
@@erxen2why didn’t he just go up that? idiot
his balls are so big, they work like a tail. helps the balance
did he free solo changing corners? or is that a different route? If he did, then he's not human.
He used the route free rider
Different route
@@simonaustin6219 Ah, no wonder he was able to free solo El Capitan
Absolutely not lol
Its socially bizarre how we praise/encourage these behaviors through our attention and admiration when 30% of free solos end in violent death and it is an incredibly risky feat. In the doc, both Honnold and his friend said they lost 30-40 friends to free solo falls. Even with overlapping friends that's a staggering amount of grief. Interesting where we draw the line between this and something like someone using hard, dangerous drugs because users are endangering themselves. It really is about spectacle and the benefit to the majority observer. This documentary made me very sad because of how Honnold talked about his own life. He was afraid to fail in front of others, not to die. His life was not more valuable than the climbs for him. The lines we draw between this and other behaviors is so arbitrary and fascinating.
Youre a straight loser, get off your ass and do something with your life.
It is not 30%. It is 30 deaths per year for rock climbing in general worldwide. And free solo makes about 30% of that. Let's round that up to 10 deaths per year for free solo. If there were 1000 free solo climbers, the percentage would be 1%. And I bet there are more than 1000 in the world.
@@soolyOnE For something like El Cap, literally everyone who had attempted to free solo it before had died. Everyone. 😭 And you can tell the energy of everyone around Honnold in the documentary, no one wanted him to do it. There is a grim expectation surrounding these free solos. Rock climbing in general is awesome, I'm just talking about how ridiculously dangerous free solo climbs are and how interesting it is that we don't disapprove of something where either you do it perfectly, or you fall to your death
@@hobelarge6389 Like i said, get off your ass and do something with your life.
I think you must be a nihilist if you can't see the difference between this (not recognising it as a genuine achievement) and a drug abuser. That, or you're the sort of person who thinks achievements are only those things that bring direct benefit to the survival and/or material prosperity of our species. If so, I have to ask you what you think the point of life is after meeting your survival and material needs? Is it not okay to carve your own meaning out of life, and isn't the popularity of Honnold's documentary not proof that his philosophy somewhat resonates with lots of normal people (who aren't exactly going to go out and free solo themselves)? Don't be so cynical. People with Honnold's resolve have always existed. He wasn't created by the modern opportunities of grabbing attention.
When I think that in 2000, it had been more than 20 years since a Ferrari driver had been world champion. With all this joy, fervor and emotion, I can't even imagine the next time Ferrari wins a title, all F1 fans will cry with joy
Only a climber from a very early age can do this
His wife reminded me of Meaghan Markle.
Litterly Gon in the last episode ....
my palms are drenched
That’s defiantly the GREATEST ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENT IN HUMAN HISTORY !!!!!!!!!🤯🤯🤯
Psshhh I could have done it way faster. Unreal
How the hell does he get back down?
🤡
hiked down on the other side of the mountain.
There’s a hiking trail to the top. He just takes that down.
@@lukefromtexas it's a rough trail, takes a lot out of you.
@@dabneyoffermein595 yeah but I’m sure the guy that just free soloed el cap can handle a 7 seven mile, zero elevation gain trail down. :)
#Keepfightingmichael
props to the camera man climbing all that way WITH filming equipment
Abseiled down
Watch the documentary. They had a crew of cameramen, all climbers. They weren’t climbing with him. They were all stationed in separate pre approved sections far enough away as to not add any stress to Alex’s climb
my hands are dripping just watching this. What an accomplishment!
I grew up going to Yosemite on a regular basis, and knowing someone would eventually free solo El Capitan is mind blowing. Props to this guy
This shit scares the poo outta me. Imagine having a mental breakdown half way.
The only thing I can compare this to is like a concert pianist having to play some incredibly difficult hours long concerto however... hitting one wrong note means instant death and having to play the entire thing perfectly.
darrinsiberia Delusional comparison. One mistake with what the free solo is guaranteed death, the other just starting over, not even close at all
@@Kai_Stone I think you misunderstood the comparison. He meant as i understood it that he could compare this free climb to pianist, if that pianist had to perform his part perfectly and any mistake would mean litteral death to him. Which this climb is, it is a series of perfect movement and any mistake big or small the cost is his live.
Courageous man ,🎉 salute to him
He was able to Free Solo El Cap because his balls weighed more than the mountain itself, therefore falling was never going to happen. Because he had big balls.
is that what youre thinking about watching this? you are a predator
@@vexice thought it was obvious that I'm blatantly exaggerating the laws of physics in comparison how such a feat was accomplished by human being. It wasn't supposed to make sense...
@@BlastinRope any kid that did anything others we're afraid of would say "he's got big balls" must of never had a childhood

I have so much respect for Alex
Imagine being up there and having to take a shit
I was listening to him on a podcast talking about that and he said he actually did take an emergency shit during the climb lol. Probably a good call keeping that shot out of the final edit

This accomplishment is either perfection or death. There is no in-between. This is the greatest physical and mental achievement in the history of mankind, bar none.
He's the GOAT, I mean that literally, he is literally a goat.
Nah he’s Spider-Man
FuiiiIiiiiiuUuuUuuUuu c -k and no! This gives me anxiety.......
GREATEST athletic achievement of all time
This is a new type of human. We have a rock-climbing subspecies of homo sapiens sapiens because of Alex Honnold now. Humans are even more mind-boggling animals now....The one hyper-intelligent animal, a bipedal ape with a love for internet memes, videogames and talking that can climb mountains better than any mountain goat because of its ability to change its own speciation to beat out abilities of other animals.
Alex Honnold started in the same gym I go to
The guy looks pretty unhinged to me. Sad in a way
thats simply the wrong assumption to make about him.
Well he has a certain look in his eyes, like most of them have. Are you a psychologist or do you know him perhaps?
alex honnold looking unhinged is crazy@@graypistachio4141
@@graypistachio4141 well he is pretty famous, and goes into detail about his mindset and what it takes for him to attempt such a solo. Nothin about it is unhinged imo
i like how you think that him potentially being unhinged (he's not) changes in anyway his achievement
