In my building, 8 years ago, the housing company comes with smoke alarms. 3 months later, the smoke alarm rings when there is nothing ! Now, they say to we to put them in the trash because a real fire alarm is being installed with wired smoke detectors. The company test it 3 times since 3 weeks ago.

sometimes if the fire spreads with explosions. You have less than 30 seconds to get out of you house. 1 second and your awake.
smoke alarms might not be your live savier if the fire spreads too fast.
You need photo electric smoke alarms. Ionisation go off to late.
