$150,000 SHOWBOAT INVITATIONAL
Showboat Bowling Center, Las Vegas, Nev., Jan 23-29, 1983

For the second consecutive week a new winner was crowned when Tom Milton began the championship match with seven straight strikes to rout Don Genalo, 259-206, and win the $150,000 Showboat Invitational.
Milton collected $27,000 for his first national tour title, but flirted with the possibility of an added $50,000 offered by True Value for a perfect game rolled during the championship round.
In the opening game Gary Skidmore topped Marshall Holman, 209-179. Genalo then outscored Skidmore, 203-187, and Joe Hutchinson, 256-176, to get a shot at his first PBA victory.

Marshall also had the balls to wear that manly shirt on live TV.

Great Title Match. Congrats. To Tom Crites and the Runnerup Don Genallo. Great match and What Nelson Burton said was true about the alleys being laid down in sections. The pin deck area would cause. The Bowling ball to leave the alley for a split second, and that would cause corner pins to stay up even on Solid Pocket shots.
I like the rubber, plastic and urethane ball eras. Don’t care much for the reactive ball of today. I love the old commercials too. Ah, nostalgia…
Where Joe Hutchinson lived, this aired on WNEP Ch. 16
Tom Milton was in the zone to win the showboat invitational
Andrew Phillips spoiler asshat
Loser
In these old telecasts they show the alternate, does anyone know if an alternate ever got to bowl in a tournament? If they did replace a bowler, do they start in the fifth position?
No, alternate never got to replace another player on TV.
The PBA Executive Committee did away with the TV Alternate's position during the Summer Tour of 1985, I believe it was the week of the Austin Open.
Meaning that if a player was not able to complete a match then he would forfeit and they would simply move on to the next match.
The first and second matches were exciting and close

George N. Pappas and Ernie Schlegel have bowled some awesome matches

anandguruji83 I’ve bowled there. When I made Friday in the tournament we moved 12 pairs between games. Between games 1-2 I stopped in the sports book, bet a Big East tournament game and on the way back between 2-3 I was able to cash the ticket!
Bo looked dumbfounded after the answer to Joe's question. :-/
Do you have the Tucson open from 1982?
Andrew Phillips why, so you can spoil it?
