Children Who Chase Lost Voices
Having lived a lonely life ever since her father's passing, Asuna spends her days listening to the otherworldly sounds of a crystal radio, left to her as a memento. Exploring the mountains near her home, Asuna is attacked by a strange beast. A mysterious stranger steps in to save her life, however their acquaintance is tragically cut short when the boy is killed. But when Asuna discovers a gateway to another world, she is overjoyed at the prospect of seeing him again. Alongside a band of friends who hold feelings of hope for their lost ones, Asuna undertakes a journey into a land of legends.

I saw this film yesterday. The movie is great, and I got tears in my eyes when watching it :)
The drawing is amazing, as well as the storyline itself. I had actually never seen an Anime movie before (except for Pokémon etc when I was a kid) and I must say, this made me think about watching more Anime movies. I surely recommend everyone watching it! :D

Nice to see Shinkai branching out to other elements in this film. He still has a lot to improve on if he continues to do so, but this film is pretty good and definitely a nice starting point for him and it didn't make me sulk for weeks after watching like 5cm and Distant Star did.

"Castle of Cagliostro", "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind", "Castle in the Sky, "Grave of the Fireflies", "Princess Mononoke" & "Spirited Away" are all awesome!
"Grave of the Fireflies" is Takahata's movie, the rest are Miyazaki's.
Mamoru Hosoda's "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time", "Summer Wars" & "Wolf Children" are also great!
Satoshi Kon's movies("Perfect Blue", "Millennium Actress" "Tokyo God fathers" & "Papika") are the best!
My top 2 anime movies are "Paprika" and Rintarou's "Metropolis"

Creator is just amazing with the detailed environments, the recent Ghibli films have been a let down details and characters have become basic like Ponyo and the Borrowers inspired film didn't do much for me... the originals spirited away, my neighbour Totoro, princess mononoke etc.. Where the true Ghibli and ever since tales from Earthsea the Ghibli movies have lost something. 5cm pet second is a master piece of animated gold this creator is setting the scale this film shows it too!
I never understood what shun was looking for in the surface ... and how did asuna's father had a fragment of a clavis all along
Maybe he was there before? Maybe he is the father of that little girl they found in the movie that for returned safely back to the village? If I remember correctly the elder told them that her father was a surfacer or whatever. This is just a theory I don't really know.

Simple: because this was Shinkai's homage to Miyazaki, you notice that the character designs are very similar to 1980's and 1990's Miyazaki's films. Several scenes from the movie also are directly extracted from several Miyazaki's films.

No, this is not Studio Ghibli. I forget the name of the production company but I know this was directed by Makoto Shinkai, his art style looks a lot like Studio Ghibli's style but it's not. If you haven't seen this movie yet, you should. It's beautifully animated! :D

I found the movie to be rather disappointing, myself. I much prefer Makoto Shinkai's previous works, in particular, 'She and Her Cat' and '5 Centimeters Per Second'. Although the attention to the background detail is probably the best this movie has to offer.
People! don't be disappointed because it's not exactly 5cm per second style. IT IS A GREAT MOVIE! watch it!
