- I just bought the new IKEA JÄRVFJÄLLET with new adjustable armrests. Here is my impression of this popular #IKEA JARVFJALLET office chair after 1 week of use. The white leather version has a very unique character, unlike typical black office chairs. Hope you find this Ikea järvfjället chair review video useful.

Thanks for the review! ❤ I would like to know, if possible, what is the minimum and maximum height of the backrest (including the adjustable headrest)
Hmm.... where should I measure the headrest and back lumber support from? Are you looking for the distance between the headrest and the lumbar support?
@@SkyPerspective The distance between the seat and the headrest. I would like to understand if it is suitable for my height: I am 176cm (69inch) tall
@@ersticktdenzeitgeist
seat to middle of lumbar support in lowest position: 17cm
seat to middle of lumbar support in highest position: 22cm
seat to middle of head rest in lowest position: 73cm
seat to middle of head rest in highest position: 80cm
I am 175cm, so you should be fine.
@@SkyPerspective Thanks!
Very good video, thanks!
I've been looking at "gaming chairs" for a while now, but this seems like a much more sensible choice, at the upper end of my budget.
I wish the arm rests could twist though.
It was between this chair, a Markus, or a GT Racing gamer chair. I think I know what I'll be ordering now!
Hi Stuart, glad my video helped in some way. Markus is also a very good chair, the issue is the handle is not adjustable. I hope Ikea can redesign it, like this Jarvfjallet.
@@SkyPerspective agreed, if the Markus has redesigned arm rests, that would be my choice.
Your video was very helpful, I'll be ordering my new chair soon, thanks 🙂
Fianlly I found a simple yet informative Ikea chair review.
Hi Nawaf, thanks so much for your feedback.
Thanks for the review!
You are very welcome. Let me know if you have any questions.
I almost didn't consider this chair since I don't know you can adjust arm rest and seat position. Nice review!
Wonderful. I am so glad my video is useful to so many of you. Thanks for the feedback.
This was the exact kind of review I was looking for! Very informative. Has the leather held up in the time since you uploaded this video? I am considering this for my pc setup.
Thanks, Glad you find the video useful. Yes the leather is still good after 8 months, just a couple of crease underneath my thigh area because sometimes I sit cross legged on the chair. I also replaced the annoying wheels if you are interested.
czcams.com/video/qPoxjKls8gM/video.html
absolutely love this new model
Are you still using this chair today? How has it worked for you so far?... I'm about to buy it but I would like to know an impression from someone who has already been using it for a couple of years.
Still using it. Everything is still good. Seat is a bit stained. That's all. I replaced the wheels earlier on. Watch my other video. New wheels still doing well too.
Thank you for the review. I finally made my mind up😅. I’m getting this one now. Greetings from a Swede living in the Philippines.
how did you find it ,and is it comfortable for long sitting time? im concedering buying one for myself i'm 170cm/5"9 ft and wanna know if its good for me to buy
I never got it. Always out of stock here @ IKEA
thank you
Welcome
No it's not removable. My version is leather so it's not removable for washing. I think the fabric version is not removable as well.
do you mind me asking how tall you are? I'm 5'6 and wondering if the lowest setting of the headrest would still be too high for me
I am 176cm about 5'77. Just to let you know, I use the medium height setting of the headrest, so you should be fine. It's a big headrest.
I got this chair and it’s overall comfy, except the plastic armrest. Do you use any cushioning for it? If so what’s your recommendation? Thanks
No not particularly. There are a number of good ones out on Amazon and on the net.
OMG thanks for the video, I just noticed that I can tilt the chair. I thought I purchased a version without that functionality. But I can't move the back support thingy up/down in my version
We should be able to adjust the back lumbar support. There are about 5 steps
@@SkyPerspective It is fixed in my version. I purchased it in Austria.
Oh... that's interesting to know. I wonder why the versions are different in different countries. Thanks for sharing.
Hi, i've got a "problem", i just bought the chair and was very happy but there is a strange wobble going left to right, like it tilts to one side, is there any way to fix it or should i take it back?
Hi Casper, this doesn't sound right to me. My Jarvfjallet surely doesn't tilt to one side and doesn't wobble. Try check if the chair is sitting on the gas cylinder properly, and if the screws between the tilt mechanical part and the chair base are tighten properly. Yes you can always take it back to Ikea and I am sure they will be happy to help.
I just ordered this today and I really like it cuz it's big and i'm 5'10 I guess I will fit in it perfectly
Hi Ziyad, does Ikea delivers in your country? Where did you ordered it from?
@@SkyPerspective yeah I'm from saudi and they do delivering orders
That's so interesting. I still feel amazed at how far my video can reach audience all around the world. Hope you like the Ikea Jarvfjallet chair.
@@SkyPerspective tyy btw I just got mine few minutes from commenting now 😁
@@ziyad3532 Must be exciting!
i am facing lot lower back pain after using this chair is there a correct mechanism to sit on this i usually follow the 90 degree pattern recommended (not all the time but as much as conscious possible)
did it remain white after a few months of usage?
Hi Lisa, yes the colour still remains white as I bought it new. I didn't notice any discolouration or yellowing of the plastic or leather. The leather is creasing a bit at my thigh area. Maybe because I sit in lotus position sometimes.
@@SkyPerspective to tap into this thread, I noticed your airbuds and phone were pure white, but the chair was more like an off white by comparison - would you consider the chair more 'white' or 'off-white'? Thank you
@@learningisgrowing Yes strictly speaking the chair is "off-white" from day 1.
Hello, good afternoon, I'm about to buy this chair because I like it and I think it would be great, but I haven't tried the markus, which they say is very good too, what would you recommend, wait for the markus to be available in my country (Spain) or buy that?
Sorry for the late reply. People who don't like a tough and harder seat cushion on the Jarvfjallet will prefer the markus. Markus cushion is softer. The reclining tension on the Markus is also adjustable. It's not adjustable on the Jarvfjallet. Apart from these there are lots of other better things on the Jarvfjallet like adjustable handles, headrest, lumbar support, etc. I also like the cushion of the head rest on the Jarvfjallet. Hope this helps.
Hello, thanks for the useful review! I also own the same chair, but I am currently having a bit of difficulty finding the optimal position of lumbar support. I know it differs for every person, but I wanted to ask which position do you use your lumbar support at? I've seen few people simply put it on the lowest setting, but still curious how you use it. Thanks!
Mine is at the second lowest position. Perhaps you could try adjusting the front and back of the seat in combination with different lumbar settings?
@@SkyPerspective I pulled the seat out all the way because it's not that long. I am still experimenting between lowest and second lowest like yours. Thanks for the reply tho!
In case it’s still up for debate I actually removed the lumbar support with a screwdriver and it made the chair much more comfortable for me
Now if only they would put some padding on the armrest or sell something to put some padding there it would be perfect
Yes I know what you mean, I hope ikea is watching this. I feel like they should sell the arm rests as optional accessories and have different types of arm rest, cushion and non cushion ones, so people can choose.
How about now? Did you find the seat pad getting thinner or become uncomfortable?
Hi Hebert, Good to ask this question now. No the seat cushion is still firm and comfortable, however, there are some crease on the leather near the area behind my knees when I sit on the chair. Might be due to me sitting cross legged on the seat.
thank you bro, that is a good review video, but how is your impression of the chair, is it comfortable for long sessions?
thank you again.
Thanks for your feedback. Very glad to know. I have been using this chair working at home 4 days a week. Each day I sit on it for about 3 hours in the morning and 3 to 4 hours in the afternoon. All good since Jan up until now. However, like I mentioned in the video, one of my colleagues actually feels the char seat is too firm and not comfortable for him. I don't have that issue and the lumbar support and headrest are very comfortable. Hope this helps.
Shame the arm rests can't be bought separately, can't even get the old fixed position ones anymore
There might be third-party ones out there. Try searching in Amazon
Hi, I'm considering to buy this white colour one. How does the color hold up? Do you think if I seat with jeans it might stain the chair easily?
The colour holds up pretty well, and the leather is still in very good condition after more than 1 year of use. There are some crease on the leather below my thigh area which is kind of expected because I sometimes sit cross legged on the chair. I haven't sat on this chair with my jeans, I mostly use it with my home cotton comfy pants and shorts, so can't be sure. My guess is this leather should be good enough to take rough clothing like jeans no problem.
It broke for me after 1 year. the reclining mechanism broke. I couldn't find the receipt so I'm stuck with a heavy, nonfunctional chair
Oh, this chair comes with 10 years warranty, so hopefully you can find your receipt. Did you take a photo of the receipt? I scan all my receipt a and keep a soft copy.
If you used your ikea family card you can find the receipts in your ikea account!
6:29 So you cannot tilt/lean your chair backwards when the bottom seat is pulled outwards?..
Also, how many cm of difference does the seat have between having the seat sinked in by default and the pulled out one?
Was interested in getting this model but i'm having my doubts
Hi, yes you can still recline backwards when the bottom seat is pulled forwards. The reclining mechanism and the seat moving back and forward mechanism are independent of each other.
The seat most forward and back positions are about 5-6 cm apart.
Yes, good to have doubts. The feel of chairs can be very subjective and can vary from person to person. Like I mentioned in the video, my colleague finds the seat cushion too firm for him. Why don't you try it out at Ikea before you buy it?
@@SkyPerspective Because i've tried the chair, but for a short amount of time and didn't knew about certain functions like the armrest's height change and the seat moving back n forth till i saw your vid then the IKEA's video sample on the article's page ^^;;;;...
One thing that worries me is the armrests not being a comfy leather. Do you think there could be a change to surround em somehow with such or something else comfy?
Thanks for replying btw ^^
@@DVTHEFOX you may need to customise the arm rest if you want leather cushion arm rest, or you can get the ALEFJÄLL. The arm rest of ALEFJÄLL is super comfortable, in fact the whole chair is very comfy. www.ikea.com/au/en/p/alefjaell-office-chair-grann-golden-brown-20419983/
@@SkyPerspective Thanks but the issue is that i am pretty tall, 1,86m and that chair ya mentioned has a small back and i tend to lay back a ton
@@DVTHEFOX In that case maybe check out the Markus www.ikea.com/au/en/p/markus-office-chair-vissle-dark-grey-50261151/
It has a big back support and can lean back. The armrest cushion is not as good as the ALEFJÄLL though
Does the white chair get too dirty?
So far so good. I usually sit on it with my hone clothes instead of my outside clothes, so it's like new till today.
how are you finding the seat cuchion so far since alot of people are complaining from it getting lighter over time
Still as hard as new, which some people doesn't like it too hard. I am ok with it, allows me to sit up straight.
I bought, didn't suit me well, I want to return it but I couldn't remove the cylinder from the seat. How did you do that?
I only dismantled the chair back and returned it in two pieces, the seat and wheels in one piece and the head rest and back as the other piece.
@@SkyPerspective which country is this? In Turkey they told me I have to disassemble all to return it.
I am in Australia.
I'm from Turkey too and I ve been thinking about buying that chair for my home office. May I ask you what you didn't like about the chair and why do you want to return it? I'd be glad if you could kindly tell me your height/weight too.
@@NoChrReq My feet was not touching the ground completely and the neck support was not according to my height, it was towards my head and moving my head forward. The lower back support wasn't very comfortable neither. It is not suitable for 1.65m/45kg. At the end IKEA accepted the part that I couldn't remove as it is. Packing all together was hard. I suggest you to go and try it in the store before the purchase.
Hi. Do you still recommend this chair? I want to buy one :)
Yes, since the day of the video till today, I am still using it. As I have mentioned in the video, some people like my colleague feel the seat is too hard, but to me, I find it's ok. Have you tried it at an Ikea shop?
@@SkyPerspective sorry for late reply. I had tried.
By the way. Thanks for your comment :)
@@ismailhakkkutluhan7159 you are welcome. Happy to help
I bougt by the way. Thanks :)
I got this chair a few days ago and it is causing me neck pain. Any advice?
Return to Ikea?
@@SkyPerspective I am considering that, or removing the head suppport. Any suggestions on any settings I can change?
عندما اريد ان ارفع الكرسي يرتفع وعندما اريد ان انزله يكون صعب جدا لماذا حاول اخي وزنه ٧٠ولم يستطيع
A shame that wheels lock up and the arm rest slides like that. It's pretty much perfect for the price otherwise.
I fixed the wheels by replacing them with this: czcams.com/video/qPoxjKls8gM/video.html
Thank you so much for answering on an old video, this advice may just sway me into buying it! Much luck with your channel, and have a nice week :) @@SkyPerspective
@@omnirhythm I'm always happy to help, especially those who enjoyed my videos. Thanks.
Are these armrests available to buy without the chair? I have bought same chair year ago without armrests cause at the time of purchase there were only basic armrests that don't adjust
As far as I know, I don't think so. At least not from Ikea Australia.
Unfortunately not. I'm on the same page and I can't find a fitting replacement in white color. That's a shame, maybe they will make it avaiable.
@@maksymilianrezmer4869 Yes, I agree. They should at least continue to sell the non-adjustable old armrest. Hmm.... I wonder if there are any third party ones that will fit. 🤔
@@SkyPerspective There are, for example 2D armrests from Boss - should fit without having to drill extra holes. But it comes only in black :(
@@maksymilianrezmer4869 Thank you so much for sharing this info with everyone. I am sure others will be interested to know where to get this third party ones. Do you have a link or a lead?
Bro a litte hint for you, you should not buy chairs just because they look cool, like what :D ...
How is the seat? Does your thighs get clammy?
Seat is going well, a bit of crease at the front underneath my thigh area. Top of seat still looks beautiful, just more moulded to my body shape. I do sweat easily, but my shorts are usually long enough to prevent direct skin contact on the seat leather.
@@SkyPerspective so the seat gets a bit hot and sweaty after a while?
No. I mean I sweat because of summer weather. The seat doesn't get hot.
@@SkyPerspective Thanks for replying.
