    It’s basic yes but I needed it. Thanks. You just saved me a bunch by switching to -db and not overloading my equipment. Sounded like a Geico commercial there didn’t i

    Just a note on my surround system level volume is negative 12db which to positive 18db. It all depends on the movies audio content that makes changes for volume levels as well. I think it basically the same as how my two channel room is set in stereo. A db meter is a good reference as well for sound monitoring. Overall the negative side of the audio spectrum is safe. I guess in surround set ups things come into play when the room calibration of the speakers are set. I am no worry of clipping the speakers. Your point is correct on the negative side of the volume side. Good point!

    Though I enjoy Mr. Kpaceguy video content, I’m going to add a few words of wisdom to hopefully save your hearing and equipment. Whether the volume is set to read negative or positive - loud is loud. You are better off using your microphone or iPhone to determine an average volume level of 85-95 decibels at your favorite seat rather than trying to listen at the 0 or -80 according to your receiver or preamp. Every speaker has a different power rating and damage to your speakers can occur well below reference level. We all know movies have dynamic peaks in the sound tracks and trying to listen at reference levels will do more harm than good across the board. The Wife Acceptance Factor goes well beyond aesthetic and most of us will be watching alone and buying new gear regularly if we try to follow these guidelines. Before you blast me, think about this…..we all tweak our systems, but the volume scale remains the same…….

    Yeah but different things are mixed to different volumes, speakers have different sensitivities, you could be farther or closer to the speakers, etc.

      @Kpaceguy  Před 2 měsíci +1

      That's why calibration raises all the levels to be the same volume at your seat. And even more reason not to go over 0db on the volume knob

    Should I do a new setup of audessy then change to reference or just go ahead and change it in the menu like you showed

      You don't have to rerun calibration. It'll convert on its own

    If a human cant turn up volume and understand the volume is louder by ear alone. That human needs more help than understanding volume levels. They need doctors.
