Man if that poison hydra wasn't an NPC, that would be genuinely a horrifying way to die from it's perspective - being slowly devoured by something that's the size of your toe-nail, yet which is completely immune to any attacks you throw at it.

Not just unintentional... but just through creative usage. Half the crap she does is just because "I thought it would be cool" or "I'm trying to do something else entirely".

It's her inexperience as a gamer and unconventional thinking that helps her get powerful. Most experienced gamers will do things the conventional way. Like if you do X, then y, you get z. Whereas maple skips X and y to get z by going b.
At the end, developers just said that she l be a good advertisement for the game, so they stopped nerfing her, because if they would nerf her too much it would be bad for the game reputation...
They nerf her often before the orb event.
Devour is limited to 10 uses a day and defense piercing skills were added because of the first event. The problem is that she's constantly getting a new skill after each update.
Any time they nerf Maple is cancelled out before the next update because she keeps finding OP skills.
After the orb event they determine that players are joining the game and level grinding in hopes of defeating her. So they stopped nerfing her because of that.

I wouldn't say it's "badly designed", it's designed for "normal" players who wouldn't min-max because they "know better". They didn't expect that someone would be silly enough to min-max, and of all things min-max VIT.

Vit isn't HP. It's pure damage mitigation. In D&D terms it's -/DR not Con
She actually is quite squishy if you can bypass her Vit...and prevent her from using Atrocity.
At the guild event she had 100hp and ~14000 Vit, with atrocity increasing the HP 10x [a fixed value of 1000hp]
At the same time, the other great sheilder, Kuromu, in Maple Tree is a HP/regen/offense tank with almost 2000 effective HP, a pile of regen, enough agility to walk at a normal speed, and enough strength to kill mobs without needing to use /day abilities
Her base build[IE; the build she has from the choices she made rather than the stuff she got from quests like machine god and atrocity] is actually really bad in any circumstance where she cant expect foes to come to her, and she has an endurance problem as most of her ability to inflict damage is tied to /day abilities so if you can force her to cycle thru them you can leave her unable to inflict damage outside of biting [which is classed as a health drain attack].
Most of her OP-ness comes from her using ability is ways they aren't supposed to work, like using Machine God as a high speed movement ability. Those aren't rockets. She is exploding herself and tanking the damage to generate thrust.
@@Sergote12 They obviously thought about it, since it's possible ;). Killing monsters by physically eating them is a functionality which needed to be implemented to begin with. It would make no sense to implement something without thinking of people who might use it, don't you think ? ;)

Maple is the definition of a person that is left AFK for 2 day as a protector and every time she gets hit she improves on defense and health.

Maple has to be the cutest death machine in an MMO, ever. She knocks everyone out left and right (without even attacking the enemy itself) and always manages to look cute doing it.

She's very prone to Penetrating attacks, terrain dmg, and knockback (Until she got a new skill so it's not anymore).
Ironic you called her "machine", considering that one of her skills is named that way...
In a lot of ways, Maple's build is all sorts of ideal. An overwhelming defense, combined with poison, to turn her into a massive test of stamina...paralyzing attacks to keep opponents from escaping...a pet, to supplement her lacking offensive skills...and then a power-up, to handle anything her standard skills can't overcome.
If this was anything other than a comedy series, that would still be a very nasty skill-set to deal with.
It is a nasty skill-set, just about everyone knows it and is also a great source of the comedy in the series.
But seriously, the relationship Maple has with the devs, is the kind of thing most players could only dream of.
@@artofthepossible7329 Honestly it reminds me of the friendship that formed between Yoshi-P (the lead developer of FF XIV) & Maidy. Though sadly that relationship had a tragic ending when Maidy ultimately lost his fight with cancer. Maidy's passing hit Yoshi-P really hard too, which also explains why it hit Yoshi-P so hard when Soken (the game's lead composer) announced that his own cancer was in remission. Soken is another close friend of Yoshi-P, so imagine how Yoshi-P must have felt to realize that he'd nearly lost *another* close friend to cancer after he'd already lost Maidy....
Though I am convinced that the game's new Healer Job, Sage, was added in honor of Maidy as Yoshi-P & Maidy had a shared love of Gundam, and the Sage is very clearly inspired by the Nu Gundam (Yoshi-P even tried to inspire Maidy to beat his cancer by giving him a Gunpla kit of the Nu Gundam, but sadly that kit would never be opened or put together, as Maidy passed before he got the chance to do so). Plus, Maidy's character has since been shown in promotional art for the game as well (look for a female Miqo'te Pugilist/Monk, and that is most likely Maidy).

I just realized something! Since Maple's resistance was so high the poison didn't kill her outright, meaning while she couldn't defend against it completely early on she was able to last longer than those with lower defense tanking through what originally should've been dozens upon hundreds of hours of grinding resistance, thus she is probably the only player with complete poison immunity in the entire game.
Yup especially after they reviewed what she did to get some of her OP skills and resistance, they made it where monsters won't keep spamming attacks/abilities that aren't working to prevent another Maple from coming around.
New players are excited to fight her.

Didn’t some of the higher grade guilds have sets to counter her in the finale? She just has stupidly broken skills like the demon transformation because they were supposed to be impossible Easter eggs to achieve and she spends literal days grinding some of the bosses solo
Yep in fact even the top ranked player guild and player couldn't beat her despite having attacks that lowered her defence by no idea how much as it wasn't mentioned in the anime but still enough to be able to hurt her
Magic resistance does not help against hydra eigther... Its like an anime where a newbie accidentally becomes the last boss.

Her Machine god skill has a VERY SPECIAL type of skill that lets her create a GIGANTIC AOE explosion that will hurt both Maple AND anyone else within range, has enough damage to GET HALF OF MAPLE'S HP DESPITE HER MASSIVE DEFFENSE STATS
Maple would be godly if there's a armor set or a shield in the game that gives agility, or have an attacking ability that scales off of defense stat.

Bofuri New World Online HAS EVERY PIECE OF EQUIPMENT SAVE EXCEPTIONS actually ADD stat points to specific stats
Multiplicative effects either comes from Active and/or Passive skills a player has (Maple's Giant Killer for example), conditional equipment effect (Maple's guildmates has one of them with one that temporarily amps damage at a cost) and/or specific buffs or Bonuses (Pig hunt event guild trophy, enhances STR stat of guildmembers by 3%)....
Thing is.... Maple stat distribution and playstyle RULES what she will always get from Dungeons and quests without fixed rewards (aside "weapon/piece of gear fit for player" types), the game director of NWO (the AI that oversees some of the game elements for players or Parties of players) will roll what drops from those, and part if what determines reward is the rewarded player/party stats and playstyle plus if there was severe stat gap between player(s) and Boss.
So Maple COULD theoretically just ask Izu for equipment to focus on adding AGI stat, but that would be counterproductive and be more of a hindrance than benefit (Maple WITHOUT ANY GEAR ended the 4th event at 5 digit VIT, by the time NWO enters a new level with a challenge optional encounter, her VIT is actually enough to TANK MOST OF WHAT said challenge Boss can even throw at her, and that Boss IS meant to FULLY COUNTER whatever playstyle one tries, so Maple being At 6 digit VIT by then is no joke broken enough to make that AI throw 5 different methods of countering 5 different stat builds and their playstyles just to try deffeating Maple
She might not have much on agility, f*ck that she has absolutely 0 on everything else beside her vitality but her Cover Move skill allowed her to instantly move toward her party members that in needs of her defense
Maple have that final boss vibe set up for her... First her archangel form when she have her party, then machine god when her party got taken out, then atrocity when she is about to lose. In other words, 3 stage final battle.

But in typical Maple fashion she probably auto-heals faster than the chip damage she gets from her allies being mauled.

She is literally me when i used to play soul saver online. I increased my defence a lot as a white mage, leaving my attack power relatively low. I only suffer 1 damage (HP: 3000) on enemy's touch attack. That enemy is 30 level above me.

My favorite part was when she went on the quest and obtained the angel gear because of it. That quest was supposed to be hard, but she cheesed it with a turtle. The NPC prerecorded message was kinda funny. It lets you know that this is still a video game.

The most OP skill is the giant bee ring that changes her stat depending on the enemy, so the more powerful the enemy the more powerful she becomes
It just grants Vitality and passive healing it doesn't change her stats depending on the enemy, you may be thinking of Giant Slayer which doubles her stats depending on the foes stats (if 4 of the enemy stats are greater than your own excluding HP and MP, your stats except HP and MP are doubled) so Maple having 0 in 4 stats effectively makes it active pretty much all the time

Honestly, this all just makes me want to play the game with how much freedom of customization the devs gave players that just didn't have the insanity to do so.
As much as I like Naofumi as the Shield Hero, I'd like to see Maple take the mantle as well. Who knows? Maybe we'll get to see some form of Isekai Crossover in Isekai Quartet.

I wonder if you can make a viable Elden Ring build inspired by Maple...
It is actually possible.
There is this build called "The Wall" where you need a couple of things to make it work.
- Two Fingerprint Stone Shields + Blood infusion and Shield Crash AoW so that you proc both Madness and Bleed if someone takes the full charge and even one shot them
- Full Bull-Goat Armor set
- Equip any talismans that increase defense and poise (Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman is highly recommended). Great Jar Arsenal is optional since you'll most likely be Overloaded in your weignt load, even with high Endurance.
You're really slow as shit, but at least you're practically invincible and you still have ridiculously high damage with the build. It's the closest you can get to a 'Maple' buils, but it's extremely hilarious to watch.
