- Dan Crampton, a muscle car collector from Streator, Il. with hotshot racer Steve Quickel at the wheel of his '70 Chevelle Wagon, embarrases the GTR with a 11.27@118.99mph, as the near $100k sportscar runs an 11.50@120.46mph. Dan's Chevelle Wagon has changed hands on multiple occasions between himself and street racer king Greg "Bubba" Taylor from Rockford, Il. Dan would like to give special thanks to Rodney,Keith and Libby "The Wagon Lady" Brockman for finding the rust free wagon in Huntington Beach California while vacationing about 18 years ago! As for the wagon it's a 1970 Chevelle Wagon weighing in at a portly 4565 lbs. with a pump gas, 533 cubic inch short deck Chevrolet engine with untouched aluminum small port cylinder heads backed by a full manual column shifted turbo 400 transmission by b+c trans of Rockford and a Midwest 10 inch converter also of Rockford, Il. A gear vendors overdrive was installed and has worked flawlessly for years including a '13 Hot Rod Drag Week trip of 3500 miles towing a trailer. The wagon also features a strange brute strength Dana rear end with a 456 ratio. No power adders have been added as of yet, but are on the list! Best time to date is a 10:93 at 121 mph with Steve behind the wheel. Look for the wheels up launches this coming spring at Byron! #sleeper #wagon #gtr

It varied just on this video from 11.49 to 11.27. That ain't consistent. That's 1st round bait. Consistent in Alabama is running within 3-4 thousandths round after round.

I had a old Pontiac safari wagon with a 455 in it with minor mods rusted and spray bombed red it was a real shocker when I would whip vetts stangs etc. Gotta love a sleeper

In case you were wondering, 11.27 ain't 10 seconds. It's low 11s. You can hold a car straight while doing a burnout by holding the steering wheel still. Just don't let it turn. You can even wiggle the back end by turning the wheel left and right.
says in the description on drag week it ran a best of 10.83 at drag week

yeah, i like this one, beautiful wagon, it just like a some kind of time machine like it didn't older at all. Unlike the GTR R35, 10 years later and it still didn't make a single smile, even when I was 8 years old (back in 2008), it didn't catch me the attention as it was other 2000s cars of its era, like the Corvette C6, Ford GT, Dodge Viper SRT10, Honda S2000, Silvia S15, BMW Z4 and others.
Trailer hitch and ball on the station wagon are especially cool. 👍
It can tow it self and a Prius to the Strip, tow capacity 5000 lbs, Prius it towed 1900-2100 pounds, the Prius is to get a snack form the closest service station the chevelle is to drive to the track race and also tow the Prius back with it. lol

I have seen that car in person as well as his big as impala. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe those were all motor passes including the 10.93 when steve drove it. All that mans cars are fast heavy pigs Lol!

greg wickersham Don't get me wrong, I have a great appreciation for supercars, the performance available is simply amazing and most of them are rolling art. But then there is the price tag..... Very, very, very few of us will ever see most of them let alone drive one. So when some talented person builds a very fast car on a relatively tight budget it impresses me even more.

Chevrolet made several cars from that chassis. I myself love the 1970 2dr Malibu or SSChevelle, the king of all muscle cars.

That was a perfect, gotcha, heads up racing win. He ran an 11.49 then an 11.55, the GTR says I'll race him, he's slowing down a bit. The Chevelle runs 11.27 to his 11.50, that's a gotcha win. In heads up racing you never show all you got until the stakes get high.

Chevelle wasgon'z are fast as a pro street because the extra roofing helps weigh it down to stick it to the road!! It also has better aerodynamics than the El Camino pick up version in the top end!!

My grandma had a similar wagon with 396 and motor mount tie downs.
Not a stock motor or a 70 wagon they only put the 396 in the Chevelle and El Camino

GM's Turbo 400 is a beautiful thing. RollsRoyce used them for good reason. Love Powerglides as well. Who needs more than two with all that 'talk'?
