  • Andy Hayes has two missions: the Fieldsports Nation member wants a great night out in Nidderdale, North Yorkshire, catching rabbits with his lurchers - and he wants to show the positive, egal side of lurcher work. Too often it is thought of as poaching. He shows what’s to love about it.

    Why catch rabbits?
    Rabbit shooting, ferreting and catching rabbits with dogs are legal activities in line with UK animal welfare laws. They are designed to remove rabbits, cute but a major pest, from agricultural land, where they dig up ground causing hazards to livestock and they damage crops. Both ferreting and shooting are more selective than the alternative, poisoning rabbits. Rabbit hunting is also social, involving groups of ferret owners or shooters, who go out at weekends and have little or no representation in other media. Plus rabbit meat is lean, healthy and local sourced. Give it a try.
    We’re proud to promote enjoyment of fieldsports and the countryside. There are three guiding principles to everything we do on Fieldsports Channel:
    ▶ Shoot responsibly
    ▶ Respect the quarry
    ▶ Ensure a humane, clean and quick kill

      @Kevin Turner its called pest control. The rabbits are eating off the grass on the sheep grazing paddocks. 8 rabbits will eat as much as 1 sheep. This particular farm has thousands of rabbits on it and 100s of sheep both competing for the same food source

      @fieldsportstv  Před rokem +3

      Thanks for this. Tony Blair banned hunting mice, squirrels, hares, foxes and deer with three or more dogs. Apparently, he didn't care about rats, rabbits or wild boar because his ban didn't cover them. Now the League Against Cruel Sports, which lobbied for Tony Blair's law in a campaign paid for by IFAW, says that law doesn't work, so they would like some new laws. / Charlie

Just thrown 4 arseholes off my land last week coursing hares.....not a fan if honest, even though I've done it loads as a lad....still the prey can escape here so I get the sport part....foxes though a very different matter....blocking sets up then throwing one out of a bag, chasing it till its heart pops if it's lucky ain't sport in my eyes....the red coats and the terrier men give us country folk a very bad rep.

    • @falynch
      @falynch Před rokem +1

      Hunting rabbits and rats was exempt from the hunting act, as long as you have land owners permission you can hunt rabbits and rats as much as you like.
      Don't agree with people hunting on your land without permission. It's rude as well as potentially damaging to your stock.
      My partner has permission from the local farmers, they communicate with each other, so the dogs are never in the same field with the stock.
      Never touch hare even when it was legal, the UK bare population is in decline.
      For rabbits and rats the only other alternative that's as effective is poison, and that kills a lot of non targeted species, such as birds of prey. Dogs are very effictive and don't damage non target species

    This really is soo bloody awful I tell you why .My beautiful boy Barney my lurcher passed away in February with a rare form of bone cancer.It broke me and my children so I wanted to help another dog so I applied to take other lurchers on to help them and I was told because the lurchers have been used for hunting and locked in sheds until they were not wanted anymore they couldn't let me have one because of the situation they had been in because my son as furry babies as well they were scared the lurcher might try to hurt our other animals so tell me who suffers for what some Humans are doing it's the bloody dogs they can't be rehomed with a family .also look on this channel people who truly love there rabbits you are soo cruel what you are doing awful.
