- VG ace online tutor Ray Cummins uses the famed ’56 Gretsch Chet Atkins 6120 prototype to play “I’ll See You In My Dreams” through a ’66 Princeton. Dubbed “Dark Eyes” because Chet used it to play the song at the Opry in ’56, part of the guitar’s colorful history (see what we did there?) includes being modified by Ray Butts, who put experimental pickup slugs under the E and A strings from the 19th fret to the end of the fretboard. Though no longer functional, they of course draw the eyes of all guitarheads. Keep up with Ray at raycummins.com

After listening to that fabulous version of the song just makes me want to put my guitar in the case and quit....Ray Cummins is the best there is on doing a tribute to the great Chet Atkins!
I could listen to this well into the night
Chet Atkins and Merle Travis are probably smiling away from above hearing this played in a manner that pleases them.
The Way I WISH I could play the guitar... beyond excellent
Thank you
A mix between Mark and Chet.
Congratulations Sir.
Excellent playing.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! ITS STEVE RICKS FRIEND!!
Yea man. What a lovely tone.
Damm Ray, you forgot more than I'll ever learn, thanks!

Great song and guitar like video.
Fabulous playing and what a sweet sounding Gretsch!
Outstanding pickin' Ray as usual. Gonna try a steal of few of these licks.

Nicely Done!
Thanks Mike
that was neat. very neat. EXTREMELY NEAT
Thanks
Beautiful
Thank you
super , quel talent bravo l'artiste
Superb playing....very tasty. The guitar has that characteristic tinny Gretsch tone that drives me nuts. Even Chet didn't start to get a good recorded sound until the 60's, most notably on his Guitar Country LP.
Damn,he didn't even work up a sweat, but wow,I sure did.I gotta go back for more guitar lessons!
There is nothing like those single coil pickups for their tone quality . Superb playing and tone blend
Thank you
Masterful. What else can I say?
Thank you
What pleasure it is to hear those tones on such an old guitar. Gretsch makes great guitar players too! Thank you Ray for making my day a whole lot brighter.
Perfect! Was that truly just one guitar, or do I detect a backing track too?
I had a light rhythm coming in at 2nd verse ! Thanks !
What is that being played at the intro of the video?
That's Chet playing 'Dark Eyes' on tv back in 1956. czcams.com/video/IwFpV80ASjw/video.html
