Review: 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST - 440 Miles + 754 HP!

- čas přidán 25. 06. 2024
- I review the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST, the fastest Silverado ever made at 754 hp and the current range champ as far as electric trucks go with 440 miles of range. Beyond those numbers, there's a lot of other cool things about this truck and some real perks to it. But there's also a few downsides as well compared to the competitors. In the end, whether or not you like the Silverado EV will depend on personal preference and how badly you want the unique things the Silverado EV offers, but it's a very competitive truck overall. What do you think about the Silverado EV RST? Big thanks to Chevrolet for bringing me to Detroit and providing this opportunity.

“Hope you can see me okay without the high visibility jacket” 😂
I was notified non stop today of all the new Silverado ev reviews… I chose to watch and listen to Matt’s b4 watching anyone else’s review becuz he’s by far most genuine as they come. U presented a great review as always.. thanks my dude.
Thank you, I really appreciate that 🙏
96k is insane. I have a feeling we will see the car market do a 180 in the next 5 to 10 years charging this kind of money for vehicles. one can only hope lol great video none the less!
They really should have just called it an Avalanche EV (EV-lanche?). Now we just need the 2nd gen to cut the price substantially and we’re there.
Fully in support of EVlanche haha.
As an owner of a truck(2016 F150) and also a commercial pipefitter i like the Silverado EV the most as far as EV trucks. The design, the range is fantastic. Usable bed space. Id be happy with a WT3 trim. But pricing is still way too high. A WT3 goes for what....70k? 75k? I cant afford that. If they can get that price down to 50-55k as the tech becomes cheaper and more available, I'd absolutely give one a try. I do like it.
Yeah unfortunately that huge 200kwh battery jacks up the price by a lot
@@mistamaog96k worth of plastic
Let’s goooo! Another fantastic review! Keep it up Matt!
Thank you!
It's the best looking Ev truck on the market. I don't agree with the 24-in wheels. I don't think somebody should spend $2,000 in tires every 10,000 miles.
Perfect way to start my day off 🤝
Thanks for watching man!
24 inch wheels are just stupid
One of the best car youtubers out there hands down. Much love brother God bless.
Thank you 🙏
Wish Chevy would bring back the midgate/Avalanche to their ICE lineup. I’d especially like to see a Maverick competitor with a midgate and a similar price to the Maverick, it would sell like crazy if it were well styled.
Nice review thx!
Excellent review, Matt. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
Great review, Matt. The truck is yet another EV monstrosity…….back to my ‘23 WRX and ‘19 Bullitt with a smile.
Great looking vehicle and performance but $96,000 jeez. I wouldn't even want to think about monthly payments😐
This truck doesn't need more "luxury". There will be the inevitable Sierra EV for that. What it does need is more interior color options. You still want durable, easy to wipe down materials in a truck. Just give me some more colors inside so it's not so drab. And I might be biased because I'm an Android user, but I don't see them dropping support for AA or AC a problem at all. The infotainment screen is powerful enough to run everything natively. At least it should be since my new Chevy truck runs that stuff natively and it works great. If people are willing to give a pass to Tesla and Rivian for not supporting AA or AC then I don't see the issue with GM dropping them.
Yeah agreed, leave the Sierra for the plush pavement drivers and have the Silverado be something more off road that can be hosed out without worry and doesn't have those ridiculous wheels! I bet a set of 17s or 18s with a nice wide all terrain tire would be just fine. Might cut into the ultimate range a bit but who cares at this point. Especially at this price, they should have made it an all terrain monster!
@@anydaynow01That will be the upcoming Trail Boss trim.
Love this thing.. Looks amazing
It sure sounds cool when it accelerates
Fantastic review! I chose you for my first impression of this new truck. Wasn’t disappointed. Great stuff Matt. But for me, the price/quality/ massive value loss after driving off the lot is a big no no.
Thanks for watching!
I'm a Chevy fan for years, Great video Matt.
Thanks 👍
Matt , you are one of the OG car reviewers. Glad youre still crushing it.
Thank you! 🙏
Excited for a van version!
GM getting rid of CarPlay is a dealbreaker.
Ew Apple
What did you do before CarPlay???
It‘s not that useful anyway.
Would be nice, but you can still say “Hey Siri” and Apple Music, Messages, Podcast, Mail, Calendar, etc. all works and plays through the speakers like any other car.
@@XX-166that’s like saying what did you do before you were born 😂
Not an ev guy whatsoever. But always up for seeing some cool new stuff! Good vid matt!
Thank you for still watching, I really appreciate it!
Good looking avalanche😂
*13:05** 😳 What the?! John Maran? Matt Cena? Matt, I lost you without the high visibility jacket!* 😭
Nice job & I buy this Silverado RST EV truck.
For that insane price, they should have released it as a GMC, then have the Silverado WT for fleets for initial release. The old Avalanche name hurt it's sales, if they were to call it something like the Silverado TT (for Trophy Truck) or Bison and advertised it like Nissan did with the Xterra it'd have had a much better image. It's good that they are calling it a Silverado this time around.
That mid gate is awesome, I hope it's available in a budget trim level eventually.
Damn over 9000 lb
Don’t get in front of it.
@@XX-166 thanks for the advice
I was about to say with that much weight. Full sized EV weights are getting extremely dangerous to anyone that also isn’t driving around that same weight class. It needs all of that 700+ horsepower just to move at a decent pace. Hello 20,000 mile tire replacements.
@@TehHonda yeah and this is a mass market truck I’m sure their goal is to move over 100k of these per year. Scary times we’re entering
Pretty ridiculous that some people feel that this is an environmentally friendly vehicle!
I don't get it either
They'll believe anything the government tells them. I will never buy an ev.
Cleaner air is good for the environment.
I dont dispute the clean air part, but globally, this is not even a drop in the bucket. Think of all the emerging countries burning fossil fuel (including coal) which is impacting the entire planet. Then ask yourself, how much of the electricity in North America is actually generated in a clean manner? Rather than making gigantic trucks that uses lots of batteries (which are not clean), why not force people to drive subcompact hybrid cars? And what about flights that burn lots of fuel so people can go have fun elsewhere, or cruiseships, and what about all the stuff people buy from foreign countries that large emitters on top of the emissions from shipping it here. See my point? For a person who does 10 000 miles in a regular gas vehicle, this really overkill. And you do know the energy consumption from these trucks are enormous, and they chew tires like crazy which is emitting more rubber compound in the atmosphere and such
@@MarC-ot5glso instead let’s just not do anything.. got it.
Nice review, Cool outside design glad its has buttons. 90k plus for a truck is insane what in the world. I feel the biggest apeal of these ev truck are the horse power
The Avalanche is BACK.
I agree with a lot of the negatives here, but, 400+ miles of usable range is about where a lot of folks will consider an EV - current research is saying the biggest thing folks want is range. They dont care about the acceleration (as long as its enough) or the plastics all over..its all about range anxiety. In middle America where driving a couple hundred miles a day is common, I think EVs need to provide two days of driving.
I never understood people complaining about hard plastic on surfaces that rarely get touched.
I foresee the few dozen folks that want to make a LOOK AT ME statement will pay ADM, the rest will rot on dealer lots like Lightnings.
Available on a used car dealership lot for 35k in a year.
The ultimate electric combo: Chevrolet Silverado EV RST meets Forza X1 Electric Boat!
*No carplay + that insane price = absolute FLOP*
lol is that all u people care about nowadays is fkn carplay?
It is a fucking truck, not a phone accessory.
Thank God I have android. Thank God I'm not paying 96k for a GM bucket of plastic. I'm still infatuated with my 2019 Ram 1500 Limited DT with its 5.7l V8 2WD
100k for a electric truck is absolutely ludicrous. What are we doing
We aren’t doing anything but looking at it for free.
We're all doing better financially than we realize. This is what the MSM tells me. #Bidennomics
@@danieljohnson4418 if you’re not sleeping under a viaduct currently you are doing well… be thankful for what you have because other people may not be as fortunate. REALITY
Not buying it is what we're not doing
@@danieljohnson4418stop with the political antic. This is all GM doing. (I'm not a liberal)
I feel like they should of gone with 20's and more rubber on the wheels/tires
I'm not the least bit interested in EV's but I feel like this was a missed opportunity by GM not calling it the Avalanche.
Seems like all manufacturers are way overpricing their vehicles. And they wonder why sales are slowing....It may be a decent truck...but it's not $96,000 nice. Looks more like a $50,000 nice truck. I know the RAM REV isn't out yet but I'd have to think it'll be priced similar to this and it's wayyyyyy nicer inside and out. It doesn't have quite the same range but overall it's a much nicer truck.
Apple maps 😂
Clean sheet EV Truck with more than others, In & Out... ;-D
Not bad
GM tried the same thing back in early 00’s with the Envoy XUV. Looked stupid, performed poorly and now, they just made something worse put in the history books.
Matt, keep up the hustle though, it’s tough.
I'd be very curious to see if that 440 mile range is real world accurate 😅😅
I just can't get past the design, (and it's not because it looks like an Avalanche). It looks as if the front end was designed by a different team than the rear, and neither of them talked to each other until the end. What an absolute disaster of a design. I guess at least they can thank Tesla for making a 2nd-divorce-attention-seeking-diabetic truck, so this is not the ugliest on the road.
Apple music is in the play store and voice to text is going to be 5 years better than siri
Enthusiasts: EVs don't make noise.
Also Enthusiasts: This EV truck is noisy.
Everything is so cool about this car… but no Apple CarPlay is where you lose me 🙃
Looks good but EV is not the way to go. This is going to drop off in sales like the teslas and cyber trucks.
We need hybrids
Wdym tesla cyber truck they litterly still have back long no wander they still selling the fundation series
440 miles of range is getting close to being acceptable. They need to keep working towards 600 miles and a 10-minute recharge time (15% to 100%).
the thing with 100% charging is has the battery gets full it takes longer for the electrons to find a stop think of it was a parking area when its empty its easy to park put as it gets full it takes longer to find a spot you can already go 15 to 85 in 10 25 mins
@@mcsike7264That is the best analogy I have ever heard to explain why charging slows near the top.
@@TroySavary thanks
Awesome power it does look atrocious though
That launch did not look particularly quick for 750hp
9000 lbs lol
Looks better than the others but its still a big fat not interested for me.
Six figure, mid trim. This is the last vehicle that should be removing features like CarPlay. It’s almost double the price of the gas rst. Couldn’t pass on it harder
love the design , cool truck but $$$$$ damn lol
I can already see someone driving around alone with a mask on thinking their a great human being.
Did you really say that streaming music from your phone via Bluetooth is the "old fashioned" way of doing it?? Good christ
Why are all the reviewers bitching about plastic in the vehicle? Plastic is light, inexpensive, durable, doesn't fade in the sun, and is in 99.999% of vehicles in abundance throughout the world in both cheap and expensive vehicles. To bitch about plastics as much as some reviewers obviously do, it seems to me as if reviewers are really lacking topics to bitch about since all they do is whine about too many plastic interior parts.
As a detailer some plastics are made to look better than other, GM black plastic is absolutely the worst as it scuffs, cracks and does indeed fadeand discolor. Although in the last few tears GM has been doing a better job at making it look better with better graining and fake stitching look. I really appreciate the Equinox as it’s roomy, comfortable and affordable but the interior looks and feels so cheap, I hate working on them
If you’d like your $95,000 truck to have the same materials as a $25,000 car that’s great, but don’t think me and all the other reviewers calling it out are crazy. And I had plenty of other complaints in this video, no shortage to fill there lol.
Edit: and you think plastic doesn’t fade? I have a bridge to sell you.
@@MattMaranMotoring - plastics don't fade like they used to in the 90's and earlier. Plastics and their chemical ingredients have improved a lot. I haven't had a car with even marginal problems with plastic holding up in a couple decades at least. It doesn't fall apart (at least in my cars) as it might in other people's cars. It holds up to daily life way better than many other materials that could be used. I wouldn't mind seeing other materials being used instead but I am a realist fully knowing that plastic is inexpensive, largely keeps its shape, doesn't fall apart as cloth, leather, metal (denting) and carpet wear down through life happening on a daily basis. Plastic is everywhere in vehicles, it also holds up to life better than most any other interior material. Plastic has a usable life of many decades at a minimum based on its ability to last in landfills for hundreds of years exposed to the elements. It's unfortunate to see plastic all over a $100k truck, but what else will be as inexpensive, lightweight, or durable? The Silverado is not the only expensive vehicle made with plastic in it, it won't be the last either. Wood might look nice but it's heavy, can get gouged easily, the laminated coasting can crack in heat and/or cold, (I have experienced such) with a Cadillac STS a family member owned.
Plastic is a necessary evil (if you will) there are many more rich looking materials but not many that can handle daily life as plastic does.
Who cares about big power numbers on a EV? Anybody that buys one has range anxiety and almost NEVER floors it
Companies feel like they gotta compensate for not having gas. Also it’s easier to put big power in an EV
What the point, it will surely end up like Ford lightning. Should make an affordable EV instead
Funny I feel lots of the car market is sinking and like a rock. So this kinda feels DOA at 95k. Who can afford a 95k car and want to walk away with this? If you can afford 95k you can afford the 100k for a cybertruck, and I think most people looking for an EV that's a talking point would rather the Cybertruck.
Chevy would like to reintroduce the 2024 Chevy avalanche ev.
If the lightning proved that this market wasn’t taking off at the slightest. I have a feeling it’s about to be the same story with this damn thing.
Not gonna sell much of this. Regular RST Truck is half the price.
No carplay and over a hundred grand no deal 😅
96 thousand dollars? 😅😅😅
But there saving the Earth😂😂😂
Good vehicle for UBER if you want to lose money trying to pay your monthly.
i will take mine with a big, honking, gas guzzling V8
With true dual exhaust
95 thousand dollars and it’s really has not stood the test of yet that’s big price tag
Let me guess there going to be so surprised when sales don’t go as planned and there’s a bunch of these collecting dust on lots all over the place This EV BS is rushed way to much
These Company’s are making fools of there selves trying to build EVS No one is going to want
All that battery capacity. All that extra weight and cost. All to fast-charge a little less often on long trips. Totally unnecessary. I look forward to the future with a fleshed out charger network where people realize they don't need to lug around 400 miles worth of battery for the two times per year they might want to play "no bathroom stop long haul trucker". I'm strongly considering a 2024 Fiat 500e with a measly 150 mile stated range, if leases with tax loophole credit look good later this fall. I'd hit chargers away from home a lot less often than any car I've ever owned hits gas stations.
In other words, I don't think the "max range" Silverado EV is the one to have. I wouldn't want the MAX PACK Rivian R1T either. It's just not necessary, and the cost is dear.
I totally agree with you, our 220 mile standard range Mach-E with 130 kW charging is completely fine on road trips if you plan your stops intelligently and aren't in a hurry. Love the trucker joke, I'm gonna start using that to give my cannonball-run analogy a break haha.
I think GM's approach with this and the Hummer are just about meeting this typically gas-guzzling, range-obsessed type of buyer where they're at right now to convince them that EVs can fit their lifestyle too, real or imagined, by having a battery that can outlast their bladder, an insane amount of horsepower to brag about and enough capability to not have to make any apologies or compromises due to it being an EV. I'm not sure why they decided to take up this challenge since this type of customer will probably be the last to embrace EVs, but in my opinion GM's aspirations are respectable at least.
@@MattMaranMotoring the less safe for work (and in my opinion funnier) version of that joke is that these people wanting 500 mile ranges to equal their gas vehicle seem to want to play urine jug trucker (Trailer Park Boys, anyone?). Very few drivers want to go more than 3-4 hours without a stop for human reasons.
I didn't know your Mach-E was a standard range. Just goes to show that they are plenty sufficient for tons and tons of people. GM certainly makes a splash releasing these products, but I think you can only have so many 8000 lb halo car EV trucky things before it's unnecessary. Are buyers lining up around the block to buy a max range HUMMER EV these days?
Maybe it isn't the EV that's the compromise, maybe it's the gas vehicle. If you're going to choose gas over EV, you're gaining range without stopping and a more complete refueling network, but compromising on things like performance, cost to run, NVH, etc.
Yup truck guys be like "i need 700 miles when am towing that thing i think am gonna tow once or twice a year"😂
An ev Fiat? You really hate yourself don’t ya
@@mcsike7264 “I need a truck that can tow 400 miles without stopping. I dont own a trailer and have never towed anything, but I need it in case I start in a few years”

You want an electric truck with a V8?
Buttons are plastic in literally every vehicle ever
$95k for a POS Chevy is about as bad as people paying $40k+ for a Dodge product LOL
No normal worker could ever afford this, he can if he sell his soul
Nice looking but zero interest in EV’s.
$96,000😂😂😂
What no Apple way to go Ford 😊.
Dont care about any of the apple stuff. But the price is way too high.
Why do they design the front end of these trucks to get hung up on a speed bump. Hideous.
The proportions on this thing just look... off.
There's no engine bay so the wheel base is stretched for cabin room. That's it.
@@xaionik I'm not so sure. Stretched wheelbases are the thing that makes a car look good. You want those front and rear overhangs to be as small as possible. It's something else. I think it's how tall it is, but also how lumpy and bulbous it is.
I like the whole EV moment but why tf do they make them look so ugly??
100k? NOT WORTH IT!
8,000 pounds, ridiculous
it looks like a chinese avalanche

Great review however!!
Nope. Trailer tests have already been done, showing well over 200 miles. You are getting confused with the Cybertruck.
@@TroySavary well that's better but still no way is that acceptable for a 100k vehicle
I'm not against EV but use it in cars where it can really make an impact.
And I live in the mountains of VA...I would be seriously impressed if it can do 200 miles in the mountains.
Just make the roof and hood a solar panel... problem solved! LoL
@@coreyyancey9272 The amount of solar you could get from the area of a vehicle would add maybe 10 miles on a sunny day.
And it weighs a 5 ton. What a joke. Only a lunatic will pay 100000 dollars for it
It's the most expensive Chevy pickup and heaviest. Most middle-class consumers can not afford to buy this, so who did Chevy build this for? That's anyone's guess, but I believe production numbers will be low, and the production will stop after the wealthy get there trucks.
Being surrounded by monstrosities like this on the road is making low slung sports cars feel less and less safe
9000lbs.. 96k .. double fail.
I mean thats what truck guys want big range for the one time they think they are gonna tow and now you have a african elephant of a truck 😂
It’s ugly I think
I'm 50/50 on it. I don't like side profile mostly
Ugly, non practical, expensive. These early generation trucks are the worst investment you could buy. Resale on these will be pennies in comparison to the 100k price tags.
No Carplay is sort of a deal breaker. But I see why they do it. "Aww your map is outdated? Come to your local dealership. We'll update it for you for $450 ".🫠 Regardless, I'd rather have this than a Cybertruck.
It uses Google maps. This isn't an old school Garmin or TomTom.
