    If you want to cook on the Ranger Amazon has a stainless steel grill grate made for charcoal in the Kamado Joe Big Joe Grill, it will fit in the top ring when it is inverted or on top of the new Hub.

    Great looking product. I think my restaurant style wok will fit perfectly on that rim for crowd sized, campfire stir-fry's. Can charcoal be used in it as well I wonder?

      yeah i wouldn't see why you couldn't use charcoal

      Just one problem you’d smother your coals ! For wok cooking check out the Silver fire survivor stove and the dragon pot for hot water camping.

    Hardwood Pellets work great, by using a stainless steel 12 oz ladle you keep away from the flames, and pellets are cheap !

    • @dogberto42
      @dogberto42 Před 2 lety

      wouldn't the pellets fall through the holes at the bottom?
      ... perhaps you're thinking of larger pellets than I'm thinking of.

      @@dogberto42 I start the fire with regular firewood and let a base form of coals then add scoops of regular pellets and random pieces of firewood. PS: I’ll be testing out the new Hub and Heat Deflector, I bought last week I think it will increase the heat while sitting around. Cheers 🍻

      @@ronpreece3429 If I were to get a Solo Stove (or similar), I was thinking that if I used compressed (sawdust, wood scrap) bricks instead of standard firewood, that would allow me to get away with a smaller device such as the Ranger.
      I think I noticed on the Solo Stove website that they didn't recommend the use of the heat deflector with the shield which is a bummer. I'm not sure if the heat deflector will do a good enough of a job in containing sparks.

    • @ronpreece3429
      @ronpreece3429 Před 2 lety

      @@dogberto42 You make a lot of good points regarding the bricks I have used the compressed bricks and they work great but I find I still need to add additional small pieces of firewood around them to make them work properly yes the spark arrester is not recommended with the heat deflector but reading the reviews people are commenting that it knocks down a high percentage of the sparks you just have to watch your pant legs and shoes lol and it’s not great for decks that are made of combustible materials I do most of my solo ranger fire pit burning at campsites so no problem.

    does anyone know if there is alot of ash that falls through the holes and onto the ground? If it's on grass that's an issue right?

      Nothing will fall through to the ground, it's pretty well contained.
