They need to venture out/open up more to the vidual side of music is in the music videos. to reacting to videos and live concerts. They're missing out. Hopefully they see where I'm coming from. I'd like to see them give them videos for future broadcasts. Its just a suggestion. If Asia and bj want to, they can or not. I'm just saying.

Wow, is this your first Duran Duran reaction. Lots of great tunes by them. Deep rabbit hole. "Save A Prayer" is my favorite. They had many hits throughout the 80's and 90's. The name Duran Duran came from a movie in the late 60's called "Barbarella" starring Jane Fonda. It was basically a sex farce made by an Italian director. There was a character in the movie named Duran Duran. They have a song called "Electric Barbarella" A couple of 90's hits "Come Undone" and "Ordinary World". Thanks and God Bless.

Yes their name is from the film Barbarella, they got the idea from the club “Barbarellas” in Birmingham,U.K. we’re they used to hang out and perform as did lots of early 80s groups…

    @Ingens_Scherz Před 2 měsíci +2

Very important not to overthink Duran Duran. They never had any idea what they were talking about, and, to be fair, they never expected us to either. They were kind of sexy, kind of kinky, kind of catchy, and always, in the end, kind of silly! It's why we little English boys back in the early 80s always thought the Duran were for the girls - but never quite knew why!
But their music was always good (and we secretly liked it ;)

I lost a hundred bucks when I bet my son that he couldn't master the bass line to Rio (although I secretly hoped he'd try it and succeed). I think he was 16 when he called me upstairs and played it for me start to finish. He even had the slaps and ghost notes down. Today at 18 he's in an international metal band which now has a few songs of their own available on the major streaming platforms. Can't take much credit for his success, but I'd like to think I might have fast-tracked him a bit with that challenge! Tough song to play well at any age.

Lots of people think of Duran Duran only as an '80s band, and admittedly, they were MASSIVELY huge back then, but they've been making fantastic music for 40 years, somehow managing to change with the times while still keeping their own unique sound. Last year's FUTURE PAST was their 15th studio album and they sound just as amazing on that one as they did back in the '80s. (Also, John Taylor is a flat-out bass god.) This is the song that put Duran Duran over the top here in America. They were all in their early 20's at the time RIO was made. To me, the album is flawless. There's not one misstep anywhere. The songs are iconic, the music is iconic and the album cover (which purposely doesn't show the band in order to emphasize the music) is iconic. I'm glad you decided to listen just to the song. I think, if you're listening for the first time, the videos can be a bit distracting from the song. I'm hoping you do more by these guys! They have stood the test of time, unlike a lot of bands that dissed them as a "boy band" back then. While they were incredibly easy on the eyes, there was serious musicianship going on too.

@@johnmccarthy-behindtheveil No worries. I was referring to when the song was popular and as far as that goes, you are still correct. It was popular where I was from in 1982 but I know throughout the USA, it was released three separate times from June 1982 through December 1982.
Hungry Like The Wolf (with the David Kershenbaum Remix) finally got a hold of the American radio market with its 3rd and final U.S. release and the track peaked at #3 in the USA in March 1983.
I would say it was one of the best videos in 1982 and in 1983 along with Rio and Save A Prayer.
The MTV Music Awards did not start until 1984 and ironically, Duran Duran never won an actual music video award form MTV- sort of a head- scratcher there.
Eventually, MTV did present two awards to Duran Duran- one in 2003. The band did not know they were getting the award. They were invited to present an MTV award at the show but were surprised when they were honored with the MTV Lifetime Achievement Award. Quite Cool.
MTV honored them again in 2015 with the MTV Video Visionary Award.
Duran Duran did win a Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video for "Girls on Film" / "Hungry Like The Wolf." And also in the same year/awards, they won a Grammy Award for Best Long Form Video for their video album titled, "Duran Duran." This was in 1984.
Probably too much info but just putting it out there for anyone interested.

According to the band the song was inspired by Little Red Riding Hood. As for the lyrics the bassist said he doesn't really know what they're about but most likely "meeting girls" and "wanting to have sex with someone".

A great bunch of lads from Brum Aka Birmingham England.
On 23 July 1983 Duran Duran staged an open air benefit concert at Villa Park, Birmingham, England in front of 18,000 people who paid £8.50 a ticket to raise money for MENCAP. Villa park is the home of Aston Villa FC. ( Foot Ball Club ) I'm an old Villa fan lol.Have a look at Duran Duran - Come Undone (Official Music Video) - CZcams .Cheers and all the best from England and stay safe.

The full sentence is "mouth is alive with juices like wine' AND they added a female moaning behind. It was 100% meant to suggest cunnilingus. Several of their songs (and videos!) were racy.

The album Rio can be seen as a masterpiece of New Wave music. Each member seems to bring elements of different genres that makes their music so good! Simon (New Wave), Nick (Synthpop), John (Funk), Roger (Disco) and Andy (Rock).
You guys should check out “New Religion” off the same album, very underrated DD song in my opinion.
