COWL NECK TOP SEWING PATTERN: maretathreads....
    Hello fashion honeys 🤍
Today I am giving a tutorial for one of my favourite tops. I wear this all the time in varying sizes/cuts and often pair it with my low waist maxi skirt which is featured in the tutorial and I will link here: (maretathreads..... In one of my recent TikToks I referenced the design of this top and how it in many ways is a casual adaptation of a Vivienne Westwood design recently popularised by Mirror Palais. I love designs like this - designs that are so simple and almost obvious, but beautiful in the way they accentuate the female form 🤎

You're so sweet. When I come back from my holiday i'm going to focus around beginner content. Maybe it's just me but I feel like there is a lot of perfectionism around sewing and that's not how I learnt. My stuff was messy and gritty and I still prefer easy sewing than difficult projects so that'll be my focus! Any feedback is also welcome 🤎

Hi Mareta, I bought this pattern and I'm so excited to try it out. Do you think I could make this in a satin/linen, maybe cut in the bias and mankung it double lined for a neat finish

Hi Afika! Yes I do think you can make it in a woven fabric as I've seen others do so in my reviews section for the top on Etsy. I would recommend going up a size or so, making a sample and cutting on the bias. I think double lined would work if you widened the channels on the shoulder straps if you're doing a burrito seamless method but I think you could run into a problem for the hem. It could work fine but I also wonder if the bottom hem would sit a-skew in which case you could cut the lining off at the waist and do a normal hem or roll hem finish on the outer layer.
Alternatively, you could keep it single layer and finish it entirely with bias tape which could be a really nice clean finish if you're good with using it! Food for thought, hope that helps let me know if you have any other questions 🤎

    3 questions:
1: can i make a top using a satin fabric
2: how do i make the top without the straps there
3: can this be made into a dress version?
Thank you for answering my questions

      Hello 🤎
      1. Yes you can make this in a satin if it is a stretch satin. Most jersey fabrics have around 7-10% elastane so if you can find a satin with similar stretch you could do it maybe size up though if the elastane comp is a little less.
      2. Unfortunately, the top can't be made without the straps or it will just fall off your shoulders. If you don't like the detail I'd recommend doing the adjustable strap option it's pretty low key.
      3. Yes i'm sure you could tinker with this pattern to merge it with a skirt to turn into a dress it would just take a bit of time sampling first to get the fit right e.g. you'd probably make it quite firm around your waist or hips. If it were loose there wouldn't be anywhere for the weight of the fabric to rest and it would affect the cowl neck and drape of the top.
      Hope that helps! 🤎

Hi! I was wondering what is the name of the fabric you used for the blue and yellow tops? I love your tutorial btw ❤

The blue were a stretch cotton and the yellow was a remnant fabric so I couldn’t see it’s comp but I think it was a stretch lycra. You can essentially use any fabric though, I’ve also made it in power mesh and was lazy and never hemmed it and got away with it with the kind of fabric it is xx
