The McCoys were chosen by the Strangeloves (I Want Candy) to quickly record Hang On Sloopy before the Dave Clark Five, who the Strangeloves loathed, could. Bert Berns, owner of Bang records, the Strangeloves' label had written Hang On Sloopy and also Twist and Shout. The Strangeloves were touring with the DC5 and the McCoys opened for them in the Midwest. The backing track is actually the Strangeloves album version of the song and the boys were flown to New York to overdub the vocal. They could have played it but beating the DC5 to it required speed. Most bands who toured with the DC5 said they hated them except for Mike Smith who was a great guy.
Ronnie was already married when he left the band. Rick Derringer fired him without cause or explanation. One of the first of many mistakes that plagued Rick Derringer's career, forcing him to work well into his 70s.
Had no idea that Derringer’s fingerprints were all over so much of American pop culture! Wow
Thanks for all of the interesting facts on The McCoys. Never knew about Rick Derringer’s other involvements with well known musicians. 🙏❤🎸🎼🎤
I would have NEVER known Rick was involved so much!!!
One of my favourite albums was Johnny Winter And... I was surprised by how busy he's been since those years. Nice video.
It is Johnney Winter live and. Terrible recording quality but one of my very favorites too.
I came here because of Rick who I saw with Edgar in the summer of 74.

Mike Smith was one of the best vocalist in his day. Dave Clark was the jerk.
He looked like he was about 13 yrs old for years until he met the Winters brothers and aged 10 yrs over night.
😂
Drugs will do that to people ! 🤮🥸🤢⚰🚬💊🚪
Thanks so much for your in depth research. I thoroughly enjoyed learning so much about the ever awesome Rich Derringer & The McCoys.
Glad it was helpful!
Hard to believe you skipped right over Rick's incredible slide guitar work on Steely Dan's "Show Biz Kids" off Countdown To Ecstasy (1973).
The one and only all American boy.
Ronnie Brandon. Keyboards until 67,. I heard he left to get married. Great Band

I saw them at The Steel Pier in Atlantic City around '65
When you change record labels it's always fatal
Almost. The Spinners became huge when the moved from Motown to Atlantic.
@@1761Charlie good exception have to admit
Rick Derringer is an awesome guitar player and singer but a poor businessman.
I love you tube music.
Long career

Of course, two members of Badfinger had died of suicide. Rock on!
