Far cry from the 70's and 80's when the club was littered with Irish players from both the North and the South. Given the current state of Irish football atm as well it looks less likely than ever that it will be happening anytime soon with the exception of Ferguson. Not the worst shout in the world either though. Granted he's young and not yet that ready proven 20+ League goal a season CF that we require in this exact moment but he's shown enough promise up to this point to convince enough people that he has all the attributes to be a future goal merchant and is playing in a progressive, attacking, free flowing, possession based side competing in Europe with an impeccable track record of scouting and developing young unknown hidden gems. Fits our transfer policy of recent seasons as well when taking all of that into consideration 🤔.

I’m Irish, what Evan says is correct. He’s Irish. But our fans are embarrassing because the same lads that are getting annoyed at this were the ones who got onto rice and Grealish for not choosing us, when they’re clearly English

Because he didn't fancy his chances of playing in the England team to start maybe? Anyway, when you're truly Irish you're aware that English pride is plenty of times fused with English ignorance when it comes to Ireland, so it's not something you'd want to play for.

Some of the angry Irish folk commenting here who say if you're not born and raised in Ireland or speak with an Irish accent then you're not really Irish, might want to cast their minds back to the likes of Ray Houghton, John Aldridge, Jason McAteer, Tony Cascarino, and all the other many historic greats of the Irish national team who were not born and raised in Ireland and do not have Irish accents. When it suits....

    • @Nieljoyceniel

If they could have played for England they would have. Its not like Ireland was their first choice. As for an actual Irishman playing for the country that did it's very best to ruin his, not in any way the same.
