They didn't really listen to you guys.
    1) The default mode is still "Smooth Scaling" aka crap
    2) All the scanlines mode use "smooth scaling"
    3) Connecting to NeoGeo minis to get more games is worthless because all these ONLY have smooth scaling
    4) You have to reconfigure the buttons to have it the classic NeoGeo style and you have to do it for EVERY SINGLE GAME (see MadLittlePixel's video)

@DeadlyViper211 these arent arcade quality parts, it's super light (relatively speaking to nicer fightsticks), and the video display options are somewhat limited. "Clicky sticks" mean nothing in terms of quality. It just means they used microswitches is all. I wouldnt call it horrendous like others have, but you're definitely overpaying for the stick itself. It's only somewhat worth it if you have no other way to play the games they included, and that you actually want to play all of them.

Unbelievable, now you have the opportunity to enjoy a pretty robust selection if you have the Arcade Stick Pro & The Mini for about $250 and approx 60 games out of the box. Back in the 90s the system cost alone with one game makes this an absolute steal.

Wow, this actually looks and plays much smoother than the Classic Mini. I might just go ahead and buy this, and play it to death while waiting for it to be updated with more games. I also agree that there should be non-fighting games because many other arcade games could benefit from arcade style gamepads.

I so hope they expand the library for this at some point, because there are a LOT of SNK games I'd love to play on that thing! $130 seeeems a bit steep, but if the quality is solid, that means it should last a good long time, which would make it worth it.

Great video! I am considering getting one and was glad for this review. I did want to mention (If no one else did) that there were stacked button configurations on Neo-Geo arcade machines. Whenever I used to encounter them in the wild, they were generally dedicated to one game, not usually an MVS system. The Samurai Shodown 3 machine I played in the mid/late 90's was in heavy competitive use so It didn't make sense for it to be an MVS. I actually prefer the stacked buttons, and that is just another check in the pro category!

Considering this has 20 built in games and has many different options for use it's pretty reasonable, the Xbox One Elite series 2 controller is $179.99. 2:49-2:56- LOL 😆
Man, I'd rather have borders than having to stretch the Aspect Ratio than what they were intended.
Why is there Longitudinal Scanlines? Those two choices are better! 🤨

To think, it wasn't all that long ago when I was thinking there weren't enough ways to play Neo-Geo games outside of emulation. Now there's almost too many. And I love it!

Smoothing isn't bad. People spend craploads of money to upgrade older consoles to S-video, RBG, or HDMI so I don't really see the difference. Great video!

Looks like a cool device that they actually got right, but SNK fighting games are on the bottom of my retro gaming priority list. It’d be great if a group would crack it.

  • @ModernClassic
    @ModernClassic Před 4 lety

Smooth scaling looks more accurate to me as far as what you would have seen on an arcade CRT. It makes sense to me then why they'd also apply the scanline options to that mode. The pixel scaling option looks like it's for those who prefer the look of a modern LCD, where there's no blur or other artifacts introduced by the display itself. I don't know which I'd play with... even on MAME I go back and forth depending on the game. Sometimes smoothing and scan lines look very fake; other times they're almost necessary to replicate the original experience.

  • @dazrael5658
    @dazrael5658 Před 4 lety

I don’t quite understand when people say that they prefer the straight pixel look over scanlines. These games were meant to display on a CRT which when running through RGB produced the scanline look. Straight pixels look too harsh for my eyes. But hey I guess it’s all subjective.
At least SNK included scanlines which don’t look half bad, especially compared to the Capcom Arcade Stick which has none.

They priced this pretty well considering that similar unofficial products like it sell for about $60.

SNK, if you’re reading this, make Pixel Scaling the default display, add scan line options to Pixel Display and add a global button mapping option so we don’t have to remap the controls on each game individually. Thanks.

Never understood why all the hate for smoothing? I'm an old school gamer and I've started with NES. It's obvious that these games look better with smooting. I would never buy NES, SNES or Mega Drive mini because there is no smoothing option. So, thank you SNK!

    • @souljastation5463
      @souljastation5463 Před 4 lety

let's be clear though, people that hate smooth mode are mostly people that never played this games when they were relevant. We didn't like pixels back then just as you don't like aliased diagonal lines in modern games.
That's why smooth option is the default: the low definition of old CRT monitors + the scanlines gave the illusion of more rounded sprites (luckily)

I have to say that this is a huge improvement.
That clicky arcade stick is a must and it's good they brought it back.
Nice that it comes with USB C, HDMI, and a USB port for controllers and later _upgrading_ with more games.
I like that the built quality is good and I like how this has lots of graphical options.
    $130 is not but.
    Speaking of games...
Samurai Shodown NeoGeo Collection was announced for Q4 2019 release on PS4, but we haven't gotten any release date still.
There's about a 1.5 months left in 2019 so I presume this will be a December 2019 release?
Or if it's _delayed_ I'd guess Janurary 2020?
Also, I think it'd make sense for SNK to make more of these collection releases on PS4, Switch, and X1.
    I'd want things like:
    ⭐The King of Fighters Collection⭐
    The King of Fighters '94
The King of Fighters '94 Re-Bout
    The King of Fighters '95
    The King of Fighters '96
    The King of Fighters '97
    The King of Fighters '98
The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match
    The King of Fighters '99
The King of Fighters '99: Evolution
    The King of Fighters 2000
    The King of Fighters 2001
    The King of Fighters 2002
The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match
    The King of Fighters 2003
    The King of Fighters XI
    The King of Fighters XII
    The King of Fighters XIII
    The King of Fighters Neowave
    ⭐Fatal Fury Collection⭐
    Fatal Fury: King of Fighters
    Fatal Fury 2
    Fatal Fury Special
Fatal Fury 3: Road to the Final Victory
    Real Bout Fatal Fury
    Real Bout Fatal Fury Special
Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers
Real Bout Garou Densetsu Special: Dominated Mind
    Garou: Mark of the Wolves
    ⭐Art of Fighting Collection⭐
    Art of Fighting
    Art of Fighting 2
Art of Fighting 3: The Path of the Warrior
    ⭐World Heroes Collection⭐
    World Heroes
    World Heroes 2
    World Heroes 2 Jet
    World Heroes Perfect
    NeoGeo Battle Coliseum HD
SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom HD
Oh and I wouldn't mind if they worked with Capcom and made:
    ⭐Capcom vs. SNK Collection⭐
    Capcom vs. SNK
    Capcom vs. SNK Pro
    Capcom vs. SNK 2
Then I think they should make Capcom vs. SNK 3 and SVC Chaos 2.
