    I wonder how people found out how to find the other 256 worlds. " Hey this is boring,Wanna play tennis?" "Sure". *Play for a bit* "This is boring wanna play Mario again" Ok" "Let me just reset this first." *While resetting he trips falls on the controller hitting the correct buttons* Oh look at this. Hmm maybe we should write this down.

      Thats how it should be, the country who developed it gets some better access. Like WoW being so big but most services and sub fees are cheaper in America. People in Europe and Asia bitch so much but I just say, "its an American game, deal with it." Dont talk shit about a country and then whine when you have to pay a little more to access its games and servers.

    For people who don't know 256 is the number of possible values that can be represented by an 8 bit unsigned integer. The NES being an 8 bit system likely had a table in rom that doesn't use the full addressable space, but through manipulation using tenis, that table can be accessed with an invalid address, extrapolating the table into space normally occupied by other data.

      I'm guessing it works because this famicom doesn't flush out the data in the ram after a soft reset, so by loading a second game after a soft reset and doing things in a particular order, you can write over some memory addresses used by mario bros. just like a gameshark does to trick the game into loading these custom values. I guess it just took vigorous trial and error to work out which addresses match up between games.

    • @Mimerneos
      @Mimerneos Před 10 lety +27

      Because as he said, the levels are technically copies of other levels with different sprites for all the elements. So like, the background is one of the elements, the type of tiles is an elements, enemy types, whether there is water or not, clouds and crap, etc..

    It's always nice when devs open up their code to allow the community to work on it, and make numerous improvements, etc.
    It always sucks when companies, and devs arbitrarily lock down their code. I understand that cheating in a competitive setting shouldn't be allowed, however taking advantage of the community and their desire to make more out of the game can still be achieved without completely locking down everything.
    Personally I'm just a big fan of open source :)

    256 must be the amount of data a level in an 8-bit game can have. That must be the reason why Pac-man has 256 levels. It's probably integer overload. That's my educated guess.

    You could have also mentioned that in Super Paper Mario, one of the residents of the "underworld", The Underwhere, refers to their home realm as "World -1"

    The 256 worlds is caused by the 8-bit rule, it says that a byte must contain 8 bits (0s or 1s), and using a simple equation (2^x) we find that it can hold 256 different values, and it appears that the game stores the world value in a single byte, thus giving us the secret worlds

      You can trust E-Bay, but it means you have to be a smart consumer. Read the item descriptions, ask the seller about the items, inspect the seller's past interactions with others, and don't go for the first item you see because there could be a better deal further down the list.
      I spent about 250 dollars in Christmas money(2012) got around 50 old games for several platforms, NES, Gameboy, SNES, Sega Genesis, and N64. Every single item came on time(except one, but that wasn't the seller's fault, it was the US postal service's fault), and everything worked great and was exactly as described.
      Now, I've never bought old consoles, same goes for foreign versions of said consoles, so that is one point, but really, same rules I said above apply and I'd say you will be fine.
      Really the only other option would be to find a retro game store near you that goes as far out as having the Japanese consoles.

      Actually, I get a lot of Amrican/Japanese consoles of eBay which work fine. I actually just got a Sega Nomad off eBay which worked fine. Going on my personal experiences with eBay, it's pretty reliable (If you pick people with good feedback)

    Japan... They get better everything. Be it glitch levels in SMB. Or event Pokemon...
    Oh well, at least we got a better Missingno. in Pokemon R/B. Since in R/G, Missingno. crashes.
    (Though I do wonder what the Japanese Blue version Missingno. is like... Heh, there's an idea for a video. Regional differences with glitches.)

    • @Kn270
      @Kn270 Před 7 lety

      Pokemon Yellow Missingno. crashes on Emulators most of the time. (Only a 1 in 14 chance of it not crashing!) It never crashes on cartridge though. Also, pokemon yelllow has different glitch pokemon than pokemon red/blue. red and blue have the same but yellow's are different. example: Pokemon Red and Blue gives you: ゥL ||ゥM 4 with a special stat of 198 with the Mew Glitch. on Pokemon Yellow, you get: ァ7g
