Sad thing is, due to Nintendo's recent act of shutting down hundreds of fanmade projects using their IPs I'm pretty sure that a good portion of these fan projects were either halted or straight up taken down.

Pixelmon mod for Minecraft. Probably one of the most fun Pokemon fan variations I've played.
Well technically that isn't its own game but a mod for a game made in reference to another game.

I tried and beat AshGray. It's so ridiculously hard if you play it like the anime, but at the same time is incredibly rewarding, fun and addictive. Feels like an official Pokemon game, and does everything I wanted to see done with Pokemon Yellow when it came out.
Btw, careful with Charizard. Unlike in Yellow, he actually disobeys you in AshGray.
RIP, Pokemon Generations. You're the one I'm most upset about losing. ;A;

Gengar and Lopunny's eyes popping out in Pokemon Wild was hilarious! I'd love to see sprites in the real games have that reaction whenever they get damaged.

Indeed. I can only theorize PokéMMO survived for this long due to Nintendo shutting down other Pokémon fan games (notably the Roblox ones)
My little brother and sister play a Pokemon clone on ROBLOX... Freaking Roblox.
Craziest thing is that you can choose 1 starter from all 7 generations, including Alolan ones. That's 21 starters.
The name of the game is "Pokemon Brick Bronze"... are you kidding me? What kind of name is that?
Who ever programmed the game is a true pokemon fan, implementing challanging puzzles for the gyms, same shiny ratio as in the mainstream games, move effects and conditions are loyal to the real thing, trading, Base Stats and Abilities are the same as in the real games, etc. So weird watching Groudon comeout of a Volcano in this game.

Jonathan Robinson I even know that at one part you fight a guy who comes out of a McDonalds, right? Well A youtuber I'm subscribed to, he did a video on Red White and Blue and got a message from the dev. And guess what happened from there. And plus one thing contributing to the dev sending a message was him stating "Ok, close this video before I get too emotional" when he got the first video.
A bad fan game is pokemon stardust nova. I didn't even last it to the rival battle, which you have right after you choose your starter. Literally, right after
And adding on to my last comment, the guy who comes out of the McDonalds is also a parody of the CZcamsr I was talking about.

Pokemon tower defense shut down for a while now, I checked back the SanAndDan games site for a nostalgia trip and read the blog about the game.
Well, Im developing a Pokemon game with RPG maker xp, I m developing for a while. Sometimes I stop developing, and then later I resume the development. Maybe one day, sooner, I can show how is it going.

Pokemon Ethereal Gates is a great Pokémon Fan Game, which is just like an epic new Pokémon game. There are DOZENS of new and completely original Pokémon, from which some are even better than the official ones. The game is still just a Demo, and therefore not bug-free, but it still provides an awesome experience and gives you that feeling when you buy a new Pokémon game and just wanna play it through in one session, always looking for new and awesome features, places and Pokémon. It's really great and something Nintendo probably couldn't do better.
A follow-up video on this could be cool! :)

I finished that game it is so fun
... Now this is encouraging me to start my own. I'll just have to redownload Game Engine, brush up on my skills again, and then get some people to help. But I doubt that anyone will, or that I'll remember about the project.

I saw Projared do a Nuzlocke playthrough of it. The guy programming it, didn't do a good job. It's very messy and the layout doesn't make any sense at all.
Also Jared encountered a trainer early on that had three level 38 pokemon, while he still had his pokemon around level 12.

Ok, i am definitely going to try out PokemonMMO and Pokemon Typewild because they both look awesome!
For rom hacks, Drayano's are very good. His hacks are difficulty jumps but much more, giving opposing trainers and gym leaders more diverse movesets and combos, better ai, larger teams, and a higher level cap while giving more diverse wild encounters. It feels like the computer wants to beat you, especially when you see gym combos like a bulky swablu that knows solarbeam and is holding a power herb just to beat rock types. He also puts all of the legendaries up to the generation you're playing and allows access to all the extra events while adding a few new ones. And for fan games, I like Omicron and Zeta. While currently just a 'beta', they are almost complete with 2 whole regions with sprite-work for gens 1-5 with some gen 6 in there too and almost if not all of the legendaries.
Pokemon 3D looks like Minecraft.
It's too bad pokemmo is a bitch to install.

I love fan made games but what we really need is a game (fan or official) that depicts all pokemon as 3D models that are TO SCALE with the Dex entries. That would be an extremely fun and immersive experience.

The pixelmon mod for minecraft depicts pokemon as their real size with some occasional variance. (Although the variance can go a little overboard, but I think it can be changed/disabled in the settings.) Of course it's not a full game with a storyline, and it doesn't include all pokemon, and it doesnt have battle animations, but it's good for minecraft multiplayer stuff. (Plus, it's worth it to see your max size Gyarados take up the whole screen in a battle.)

I have followed Pixelmon for a few years but due to having it on Minecraft's internal structure it cannot be threaded. Making it EXTREMELY restricted. I would still like relatively good graphics.

Jwitz I've got one major problem with Pokemon Tower defense. The fact that the music STOPS TO FREQUENTLY!
Other ROMs such as Flora sky and Victory fire are good, but Reborn dethrones them all. Perfect challenge.
JWittz, I was curious if you're aware that a Pokemon tabletop game exists, Pokemon Tabletop Adventures. My friends and I have been playing it for the last year, and it has really cool features such as type-shifted pokemon and trainer classes. If you're interested, I'd love to see a fact of the day done about this unique pokemon experience!
Pokémon Brick Bronze is great. It's not complete yet and has no original Pokémon, but it is fully 3D, has a decent story, all 7 generations of Pokémon, and has a new reigon. The funniest part is that it is a game on Roblox.
Interesting video, I might check some of these out. I don't know if you've seen Zeta/Omicron, but that's a good quality ROMhack I'd suggest if you get time.

I tried Type Wild, and it's super cool! However, I'm struggling with the controls. I've tried using a PS3 controller, and that made it a lot easier, but I'm still confused about which button summons special attacks vs. the other ones and I don't know how to summon the assists. Also, I haven't played the game for a very long time, but I can't beat that one grass Pokemon. It's a bit annoying.
You know what? I am always waiting for pokemon (the main series) to come out every year, and for some reason I won't replay them even through the next one is almost the same. Now I see some of the hacked main series like games and I think, OMG why have I never thought to play these, THEY LOOK AWESOME! Now I finally have something to do!
My fav fan game so far is pokemon apollo even though i just played the beta version but i loved it the same especially starting off as a rocket grunt choosing from ekans grimer or koffing and its very difficult
