actually every kind of music has rules. otherwise we wouldn't be able to tell apart different genres. but classical music rules were studied and systematized by the intelectuals, while folk music rules were not, until ethnomusicology became an academical discipline

How to recognise different ragas? i.e. how can know that this song is in darbari and that one is in Bhairvi? 3. How to know Thath of a raga? Thank you. Peace be with you!

It's a great series. I only hope you take it to the completion.
Could you, in the future FAQ series episodes, also elaborate on the relationship between folk and classical? Now certain raags have their origin in folk tunes and also how the folk might have been influenced by classical? I presume there was always some give and take, the two didn't evolve in isolation.

I'd love to have more people know about Santoor, Shatatantri Veena which I love, and its difference with its Persian brother Hammered Dulcimer. Sadly this instrument is not much recognised, the name of it is always identified as a bathsoap! The common man doesn't know that the musical instrument is way more ancient than the soap! Even the Legends who are its Maharathis like Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma ji, Rahul Sharma, Pt. Bhajan Sopori ji, Abhay Rustum Sopori, Ulhas Bapat ji who left this world quite recently, have played this instrument for decades still people don't know anything, despite it is a lot used even in Bollywood songs! Example Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma ji worked with O P Nayyar sir (Shiv ji was called in midnight to practice the Santoor prelude of song Jaaiye Aap Kahaan Jaayenge), Ulhas Bapat ji played Santoor and made the Mera Kuch Saaman song more beautiful, along with Ashaji's beautiful voice! I'll be very happy if you have an episode talking about such rare melodious instruments. I am a novice player of Santoor, but would love to play it on forever, being a master of it some day, if God wants me to achieve so

It is often heard that while singing one should produce the sound from the pit of the stomach. What does it mean? I know it is a very basic question, the answer to which might be known to all practitioners of classical music, but for someone like me who is very new in this field, it is a source of bewilderment. Would love to know how the vocal sounds are expected to be made and how the vibrations are to be felt while singing... Thanks in advance! :)
