- You ever had a time when you worked for a long time doing something/waiting a long time for something only to find you were doing the wrong thing/waiting for the wrong thing? Well, I thought I was uploading this video when I was actually uploading Grit's theme again. And I only noticed it when it was at 98%. Now I have to suffer from a slow internet connection for another 30 or so minutes. Oh well.
ANYways, time for Grimm! I sometimes use Grimm because of how strong his units can hit. Sure, he suffers from bad defense, but he can really wreck his enemies in the first strike! His theme is awesome, I must say. There's a certain instrument in this theme that I don't hear often, it's nice. Grimm's theme certainly has a lot of energy which really pumps you up to annihilate the enemy! Overall, I like Grimm a lot.

Grimm has +30% Attack and -20% Defense.
Grimm is AW1 Sturm.
Of course, it wasn't the stat bonuses that broke Sturm, it was the ability to ignore terrain.

I wouldn't put the meteor in the list of things that made Sturm powerful. It's honestly a really easy power for the opponent to exploit, since it always targets the most expensive grouping of units minus the cost of Sturm's own units within the blast radius. As a result, it's far more likely to go for a bunch of mechs in the corner of the map than it is to go after anything on the front line. Heck, the threat of meteor has more of an effect on the battle than the meteor itself, since while it effectively negates it, the mech pile strat does mean slightly fewer opposing units on the front lines.
@@VestedUTuber Well but mechcluster still costs fonds. Yes you can distract it but you still have to invest into it. Fonds that you can't use for your frontline.

3000 a mech, and you don't have to spend it all at once. Plus you don't need the entire blast zone filled - Meteor Strike's targeting algorithm _subtracts_ the amount of damage it would do to Sturm's units from the amount it would do to enemy units to determine the amount of damage it would do. As a result, Meteor Strike basically tends to not hit the front lines anyway if it has an alternative. Even just three enemy mechs in the middle of nowhere often ends up in a higher net value than a cluster of both friendly and enemy units for the purposes of Meteor Strike.
No wonder his units have -20% def, they are to busy dancing to this banger too take cover

@@syahmisahauddin3852 You definitely pay for it in defense. His infantry melt by just looking at them. His capture game is terrible. He can't defend properties at all. I know he is built as an offensive all out attacker, but these games have always had stronger emphasis on taking and holding properties than just charging in.

May be a tough CO to use because of the weakened defense, but really fun if you can get him to work because of the firepower increase. Also, his personality always seems to put a smile on my face. Har!

Grimm is probably my favourite CO. Mostly because his theme is fucking banging.
It also helps his gameplay is kinda weak, so you know you're not just riding an op character to victory

This song is like a twisted/cursed theme that you'd play when beating the daylights out of someone with no remorse...which is exactly how you play Grimm.
After hearing the new soundtrack in Reboot Camp, I'm wishing for Dual Strike DLC just to hear their take on this theme.

For a guy nicknamed "Lightning" he did a darn good job of slowing down the gameplay.
I don't get it.
In-game, he was called "Lightning" because he was so fast. Unfortunately, picking him in a battle turns the game into a goddamn fencing match because you do NOT want to get first-striked.

I always felt that Grimm was more the sort of commander who starts very aggressive, trying to shoot down as many enemy units as possible so you don't have to worry much about getting pushed back by the survivors, cause once the enemy has built up his defense and winds up their ranged units, Grimm gets a lot less of a threat.
@@comridleyw9679 I can just see Grimm just sat in a mounted gun just actually using it, and shooting all the recons and fighters coming over this hill in front of him to bits and him just laughing at it all whilst everything just skids over the hill just to near instantly explode into pieces.
In terms of balancing, his D2D is actually puts him in a slight disadvantage. To clarify, % based scaling is trickier than one may expect, especially bc it functions reciprocally.
While he has +30% atk, -20% defense actually means he receives 40% more dmg, outweighing his perk. Think of it this way, a -50% def means that the CO's units effectively receive double dmg, discounting any atk buffs from enemy COs.
If Grimm is to be balanced, he should only get -10% def, since it means his units now only deals 20% more dmg, making counterattack strats less punishing. Also, give him that extra 10% atk & 20-30% extra def on his super power, (idk why they give him only +90%, atk doesn't make sense to me).
you can make grimm rank up to 10 by playing to give him extra buffs, i think you can give him extra 13% overall defense to his units to make it less punishing for him
@@wikzwou8938 You can give that defense to any CO. Or some offense to another CO with more reliable stats and/or actual defense (Javier/Hawke/Lash/AWDS Sonja come to mind).
His only remaining draw is his CO Power set, which is surprisingly good but nothing compared to juggernauts like Covering Fire, Tower Shield, Ex Machina, Hyper Upgrade, Samurai Spirit, Counter Break (AW2/AWBW) or Super Snipe.
I forgot Urban Blight. That kinda just shows how many super powerful powers there are, which makes Grimm's pure attack less impressive.
@@CabeliotCometier You talking as if Lash isn't a billion times worse in Dual Strike compared to AW2. A heck of a lot worse actually. Same with Grit,who is arguably the worst CO in the game.

Have you seen the Advance Wars by web scene recently? There is this guy going by the name Grimm Guy and he has been wrecking face using Grimm. Normally Grimm is very hard to use because of the lowered defence, but this guy made it to the big leagues. Nobody knows who he really is since Grimm Guy is an alt, but it's fun the speculate.

Tell that to Grimm Guy who has been cleaning up AWBW recently. You need to be good to use this CO, but if you can work around your weakness, you can stomp hard.

Spengbab Squerepents In AW1 & 2 Sonja is weak without Fog. In AW:DS she's downright dangerous because of passive -1 star defense, increased counter attack, permanent health conceal & very short charge bar. All for the fact 'sometimes' she does less damage.
Trades46 Yeah, I do find it funny that she's basically more and more like Kanbei to finally make her useful. Though it does show why Kanbei's still the main leader and Sonja's only the advisor at best. I mean without Fog, Kanbei's basically all around better than Sonja, especialy as far as the computer is concerned.
Oh and it was AW 2 where she got better counter damage, but the defense star does help a lot. Ironically, Kanbei ALSO got increased counter damage and already has a natural 2 defense Star boost ON TOP of the boost he gets from the actual defense stars in the first place. XD All cause his units cost a quarter of a day's worth more cash.Pair him with Colin and ... What weakness? or as Colin says (one of my favorites), "Let me do the buying!"

Grimm is basically Mr. Kamikaze. Throw those units at the enemy to do as much damage as possible, regardless of the units' long-term survivability.

With Grimm, you *ALWAYS* have to go for the first strike if it can be helped. The Firepower increase won't really matter if you're on 1 HP.

Originally I was very offput by compression, but now I don't care as much. Like sure, it makes the theme worse, just like Koal's and the others, which is very unfortunate for such absolute bangers, but they still slap. Can only hope there will be Re-Boot camp for Dual Strike with properly remade themes, that is not losing their banger status while also not being compressed.

I still don't know the point of this CO. Not talking about the story/plot. There almost isn't any CO that has low defense (except for Sturm in AW1), but there are many COs that boost attack.
I think Grimm should have some unique ability to himself. He's just like a Kanbei with less defense and normal price unit, or a Sturm without free movement. He gives me a feeling that he's just another big attacker, like Max.
At least Sonja is the only CO who specializes in FoW and hides her HP, Drake with his fuel draining, Eagle with the ability move again, Sami with her instant capturing.
I think Grimm would be cool if his CO power mitigated his drawbacks rather than emphasizing his strengths. Something like making all units able to attack at full strength or all units can't be brought below 1HP for a turn would make his playstyle really interesting.
he's a hybrid of Strum's DBD attack n Defense, but takes Max's as his super/power. honestly probobly really cool all things considered. and i'd say go look into "Grimm Guy" he's really turning heads with how he's destroying it as Grimm in Advanced Wars By Web.
@@V4Andy eh, i find that'd just make stalling more of a thing like AW1. something they were trying to stop in AW2, but decide to give Sturm AW1 Kanbei's attack and defense, and keep his 100% cost though. good job IS.

Great theme, terrible CO (in terms of how well he performs on the battlefield, not his personality).
Grimm is bad solo because his power doesn't grant him movement. If you go into the free-associative nightmare world that is Tag CO PVP he's a monster, esp in a TAG Skills meta. He's a great 2nd stringer because of skills like mistwalker and access to partners like Adder, Jess, or Eagle who can help him close distances.

Like 30% boost is not worth risking 20% less defense.
What he needed was a true haymaker like 40-50% power Aw1 max style and maybe more movement but to offset he has 30% less defense, now his title 'lightning' can actually apply.
@@anafu-sankanashi8933 nah; Grimm is fine. he's literally a glass version of Kanbei, and having to revolve around Sonya's style of "strike first" and Max's "Strike hard" and even when that's not really a thing being smart is better then "running head long into death" as everyone things Grimm needs to be.
Tell that to Grimm Guy who is nearing the top of the leaderboards in AWBW using only Grimm.
