- Sure, there's already an extension of this theme, but this one actually has good sound quality and looping. Jess deserves no less. So, Jess no longer carries a jerry can and ammo thing. I'd like to make a clever pencil/suitcase joke, but I can't seem to. Well that's fine. What matters is that Jess is still awesome and so is her theme. If you've got the money, then why not spend it on giving her an unstoppable tank?
Edit - Feb 23, 2021: Oh 2016 me, you amateur. So, you ended up drawing a blank for a Jess pun and didn't find one that suited her? C'mon, she even wears a sweet suit! There's a bunch of aspects that can fuel these puns, and they're a great driving force. Ah...much better. Jess' amazing theme definitely helped get my brain into overdrive and quickly make these puns.

I love the build up in Jess's theme, it initially sounds like tinkering, images of engineers under the bonnet of a jeep or fixing up a tank tread, but as it builds momentum, it feels like you starting to see the sheer power of Jess's force and what was initially an image of a few recons zipping around turns into a full battalion of tanks roaring over the countryside when the song kicks in hard. Slow to start, impossible to stop, fighting her feels going to war with an avalanche, what a perfect theme.
Yea, it definitely conjures up images of a factory floor ramping up to peak production efficiency where it eventually becomes an unstoppable force. Perfect for our vehicle and supply chain specialist :)
Even imagining the background sounds of your ground units moving just meshes so well with her theme.
Yeah it feels industrial like. With a build up Just like Jess Style. She sets up shop, and if you allow her to build her force you might have a hard time
I always saw it this way:
The build up at the start is separated into 6 sections, each one adding an instrument, like a vehicle going from first to sixth gear.
I really like the Dual Strike version of her theme. Sounds more clear and defined.
They massively buffed her for the game so they had to buff her theme as well.
@@Expa0 Yeah, it's like "hey, let's just double your strengths, get rid of your main weakness entirely, and make your CO and SCO abilities charge just a little bit faster". Like, there's almost no reason to play Max if you can play Jess and boost every vehicle, and have it so they never run out of fuel or ammo.
One of the very few returning characters who actually has a better sounding theme
Max progressively became so bad within each consecutive games until Jess just completely took his role entirely.

...granted, I get it, I LIKE Jake as a character, especially for being much smarter than Andy ("Is it a tank?" notwithstanding) but also for being genuinely friendly enough to bring HAWKE into the fold of heroism slowly, knowing that integrating HIM would bring Lash in.
Another good example of a strong female character. I mean, every female protagonist is a good example of a strong female character to some degree, but I just wanted to talk about Jess for a bit. She can lead armies to victory, but she knows when to let them rest. She's also not afraid to call out Eagle in his bullcrap, either. Really, she's just a respectable CO of Green Earth.

Jess is such an amazing character. A strong and independent woman. She gains respect by actions, not by words. She's imponent, I love her
It also helps that her specialty is logistics and supply: her forces can go the distance.

I like how Dual Strike treated Jess. IS essentially took an underwhelming, lower-tier CO and made her into a terrifying ground specialist who has more than everything she needs to destroy her enemies in one fell swoop.
They also made her someone who can fit neatly into any team-up and contribute something good, especially with her powers.
I genuinely think Jess might have a claim to being the best buffed CO in Advance Wars history, *maybe* after Kanbei, but Kanbei was already absurdly strong in 1 so him being broken in 2 isn't necessarily as impressive as Jess's rise to fame.

I don’t. They got rid of any and all weaknesses and essentially just turned her into better Max. They could’ve kept some of her weaknesses whilst making her strengths meaningful. Instead they just took all the drawbacks away and made her upsides even more huge.
@@meathir4921 To be honest though, in BHR, she was kinda... uhh... useless. Especially with how down her capture game was. So she needed a LOT.

Fun fact: Jess' uniform is based on the uniform of a German tanker from world war two. Tankers apart of a regular panzer unit would have their double-breasted jacket (which, once again, Jess' jacket is based on) made of black wool, along with wool pants which were black aswell.
As far as the design of her uniform goes, Assault gun crews and artillery crews would wear a green colored version of the double-breasted jacket, though more of a khaki green compared to Jess', but we can give it a pass since she is a CO leading from off the field of battle, and COs don't really need to worry about wearing camouflage in this game, heh.

I love using Jess and Jake. They synergize so well with each other, power wise, either using the movement bonuses that both powers provide to surround the enemy when you have open space, or having Jess move all the rockets/artillery into place, softening up enemies with tanks if you can manage, and then using Jake's increased range to blow open a choke point and bumrush through it.
who doesn't like megatanks with effective 12 MOV. :p

It's been five years since you posted this but I agree entirely, Jess and Jake were my favourite team-up. What a hard-hitting way to break a stalemate! That their tag power was named Heavy Metal is just icing on the cake for me.

Jess's theme is at least on the top 10, but the best theme is without a doubt Sturm's.
(Or maybe one of the Days of Ruin tracks, i never heard any of them)
So... she trades her -10% Infantry Atk with +20% Vehicle Atk instead of +10% Atk and her CoP and ScoP are one of the best in the game. With, again that happy Sideslip/Sidewinder boost added again. And a whopping Extra 50% Atk in her ScoP.

1 year old comment but I'd like to point out that in dual strike, jess infantry is 100/100 and her cop/scop bonus firepower is 50/70 (used to be 30/50 in blackhole rising).
This is my favorite theme in the Game. Is so badass but tactical at the same time
Jess is basically Max and Grit combined, just not for navy and airforce.
Her ground troops except for Infantry and Mechs are so damn strong that she's absolutely broken on pure factory maps.
The only thing she's missing is a range upgrade for her indirects, but she DOES get a movement bonus on co powers, much like Max back in AW1+2 where he was considered broken.
Jess can also do very well on maps with airports, since she still has super strong anti-air units to boot, which means her 90% attack power on air units is not that important.
Just on any map where sea units are critical, or any map with much water between the players, Jess should not be picked.
Her daily 120% attack on ground units is basically like max, except she also gets that for indirect units.
And her co powers are honestly broken. That 150%/170% damage is absolutely bonkers. PLUS it gives utility and momentum in form of a FULL ammo/fuel refill for ALL units and +1/+2 bonus movement.
Overall, Jess is my second favourite CO in the game, right after Hachi. They also make a great tag team. Hachi can spam a lot of units and Jess brute-forces them into the enemy.
Also with Hachis alternate outfit, they both wear green uniforms. Synergy confirmed! :D
I'm still dreaming of the day a reboot for the series happens. I never liked the tag team feature in part3, but just imagine if you bundled up Sturm and Caulder[Stolos].
Now, depending on your purpose, you can pick any garbage combination to have more fun in the war room [with friends].
a) Some of the obvious hardest hitters you can get in regular play would be Colin unit spam then swapping to Grimm. You are first to the play, and nothing will survive your first strike.
b) Or, you use Kanbei and Hawke, nothing can hurt you, but you hurt people even when they just try to deflect you. My favourite, but needs a lot of foresight to be played properly.
c) And the ultimate bullshit is playing something like Max+Eagle for obvious reasons. Moving at maximum firepower for three times in a row has little counterplay, if you've set up like 10+ powerful units that can easily end the game... Actually Sami[Tami] for instant conquering could be used instead if you prefer a clinical HQ conquering over total annihilation.

Man, Jess got buffed so much from Advance Wars 2 to Dual Strike. Her Infantry are fine now, and her vehicles are 20% stronger instead of 10%. Hell, even the reduction her air units get isn't terrible, lol.
SpanishFly120 I felt like she was borderline OP. I mean, several tank legions could pave the way for artillery or bomber clean ups.
Jess + Jake was easily one of my favorite CO pairings. So damn devastating to be on the receiving end of that tag power turn.
also, she has the second strongest artillery in the game (with overdrive she actually outdamages grit for one turn, LOL)

I see no reason why Jess' ground troops should be weaker in AW2. I heard they corrected that in Dual Strike and made her ground troops average, but come on. It makes no sense. They're a land unit too, and Jess is a land specialist. Why are they weak?
she is a vehicle specialist not foot infantry like samy, both are land specialist yet one is only for infantry and the other only for vehicles.
Last time i checked his tanks and other vehicule are 80% strong.
