- Ah Jess... Your theme is awesome. I have a better word, but I'd rather not say it. I just love her theme in both games. Plus, Jess is pretty awesome too. She is amazing with any ground vehicle and I love that. Maybe even more than Eagle now that I played her in AW 2 again... It was definitely worth the 23 minute extension.
Not only that, but she also has great CO Powers. (One which also shares the name of a great Touhou music video: Overdrive!) I definitely like playing as Jess because she's so good. Both her theme and abilities are one of my favorites.
(Added: ...I've always wondered...could you actually like your own videos? I've never been conceited enough to try.) I used to think that she carried a giant pencil and briefcase when I was much younger...Now I see ammo and fuel.

Random, but I always loved this art of Jess. She strikes me as a professional CO who is very neat and organized, able to formulate and execute strong offensives on the front.
But she is not above working among her subordinates, and is willing to work with them and get her hands dirty while keeping her image in excellent form. She gauges the morale and attitudes of the people she commands. As well as keeping a close eye on issues and problems in the chain of command as well as production and maintain of armaments and vehicles.
This impression honestly gives me a lot of respect for Jess as a character. As it gives insight as to why she's so successful as a commanding officer on the field.
yeah, she is kinda like Erwin Rommel from ww2, with the difference that Erwin actually fought often on the front with his troops
Humble yet intelligent and discipline.
She looks... More qualified than a lot of other COs, I can say as much.
Not to mention the juxtaposition of a business suit, pen, and briefcase instead being a staff officer uniform, shell, and jerry can.
Green Earth is based on Germany so it makes sense
Love this theme. It fits perfectly for vehicle specialist.
I showed a non-gamer this theme and they said they don't like it since it has too many booms. So yeah, since tanks boom people do seem to agree with your statement.

Legends say that she once won a battle, even though her tanks were obliterated, wielding nothing but a tank shell and a gasoline canister.
You can tell the composers had a lot of fun with this song, as it seems to have a loop length of almost 1:20 in contrast to the usual 1 minute mark.
Well, ignoring the whole pencil/cannon shell/most unnecessary sex toy in the world/ debate, I like Jess in AW2, but frankly, I cannot explain how glad I am that they fixed her infantry in DS.
That and she is overall much better in that game due to the speed of powers
She's a beast. She's my favorite, and tagging her with Jake just steamrolls anything on land that isn't sleeping under a mountain. She's also an AA badass. When Overdrive and esp Heavy Metal hit, you land. In one piece or dozens, you land.
They also increased her ground vehicles to 120/100. She went from the worst co in the game to easily one of the best.
If that thing is the most unnecessary s*x toy in the world then the other thing she's holding probably has lube in it.
She traded her -10% infantry for another 10% attack on her vehicles. She was underwhelming in the first game then became really great in the second one.
In the Advance Wars 1+2 Re-bootcamp, she will be holding a Juul instead of a pencil to reflect the changing times

I am =D. I just hope they keep her stats similar to DS. if they revert it back to how it was AW2 then that will be sad. She's considered the worst CO on AW2.
EDIT: Flak is still the worse CO. so yeah, Jess is close 2nd or 3rd worse CO in that case(completely forgot about Flak).

I think her personality got a little weaker in DS though.

Hawkecrail It was. The only reason I still play it is because the AI is more challenging (winning the 1v2 and 1v3 war room maps is BRUTAL in Dual Strike). Story sucked, new characters sucked, and powers were still super-unbalanced. The tag system completely broke the game as well.
AverageO The only new character whi i liked was Grimm because he was actually balanced. Fighting against the same 3 COs got really boring really fast (not like the bolt guard had any good COs, gameplay wise.) The story centering around only 3 COs with and occasional other character was boring. Speaking of being boring, Jess, Sonja, Sensei, Max, Sami, and eagle lost their personalites and became such bland COs, Colin was such a strong character who got degraded to being pushed around by his bitchy older sister. The new COs had such unbalanced abilities (except for grimm) and had flat and uninteresting personalities. And to top it all off, you are stuck with a single storyline with no hope of getting away from these god-awful characters

When I heard that Jess could keep bombers on the frontline indefinitely, I did a little happy dance. This girl is heavily reliant on her CO power so use it often.

@@comridleyw9679 No. The joke is that since she has the gas tank around, static electricity will jump from her hand to the gas, making her explode, killing herself by acident
You would think that a unit who excels at both direct and indirect vehicles would be particularly powerful, but AW2 does not paint a pretty picture for her. The main problem is her inexplicably underpowered infantry. They hamper her ground performance, something that she nominally excels at. AWDS did the reasonable thing and buffed them up to the standard 100%. AWDS also made CO Powers more frequently available, something that significantly benefits Jess
+KyazuTheInsane I think it was their way to balance her in ground only battles. Just think about that she had no flaws but 20% more vehicular firepower in AWDS when you fought ground only, what made many other decent ground COs almost unnecessary if you don't mind that much about their CO-powers (and remember, Jess has an amazing power, too).
I feel like when the composer was making this track, they were blessed with the essence of Frank Klepacki himself.

At first l didn't like Jess because her CO power seemed stupid and bland, but l actually like her better than Max now. Not only are her tanks and land units able to compete with his, but her ranged units aren't affected either, so she can kinda get the edge by mixing unit types. Pretty nice addition to the game.
Yh that and the fact she can refuel to counter co powers like drakes that drain fuel
@@golddust7095 in advance wars 2 her vs max only depends if there is airports around. If there are no airports (since all air units are direct combat) then Jess is better.

@@zafrog3941 Except for the fact that Jess completely loses the capture game against Max which makes her one of the worst COs in the game,not to mention that her 10% fireboost increase is barely even noticable in most circumstances, she is an absolute joke in AW2.

If her infantry were average or her vehicles had the +20% strength they do in Duel Strike then few would have ever have complained about her in 2 at all. I think with one or the other in her debut it would've lended much more legitimacy on her part.
I always thought she was holding a giant pencil, and I also thought that sound at 0:01 was her sharpening the pencil ( both ideas kinda backed each other up).
It was only later i realised it was a tank shell and troops marching.
When I first heard the music in the game I wasn't too impressed. And never really played the CO. But now I can't help but click on her song often than all the others!

Jess is an amazing Commanding Officer. She is easily the most militaristic person in the game and her ideas when commanding are very poignant.
Black Hole might have created the Neotank, but Green Earth invented the Megatank that is superior in firepower and armor without any further flaws...

Jess and Colin both make good use of Megatanks for sure.
The great thing about Jess is she can resupply and add movement to her megatanks, what neutralizes the only two big disadvantages of them (for at least one turn, but one turn usually should be enough), while Colins megatanks still lack on movement and ammo/fuel what might cause some trouble - but anyways, he's Colin. He just doesn't care cause he got money. I prefer Jess anyway.
ComRidleyW How well do you think Jess pairs with Adder as a CO combination?
E4439Qv5 I even used them a few times together in DS. Their two turns with +2 movement (for tanks at least) are pretty powerfull, especially if you consider that Jess refuels them and adds firepower. But I still favour Sensei as tag CO for Jess, because they are good in covering each others weak spot and Sensei is better than Eagle in early game (better mechs/copters + transpot movement), allowing you to switch to Jess later on when you are able to afford some heavier tanks or rockets.
use jake instead of adder. He also adds +2 to MOV and also has a tag break with jess.
