Thank you, Corin! I have three JWP's that have exhibited the exact same needle browning in the past couple of weeks that you document here. I consoled myself with the fact that the browning needles were the older growth, but you've confirmed that the trees are doing exactly what they're supposed to. If you had to guess how old do you think is this grafted pine?
What is the reason for grafting white pine onto black pine?
1/ makes them hardier and more vigorous 2/ you get a blue colour instead of green
Better craggy bark at an earlier age, better colour, and roots are more suited to container culture.
