    I charged 6 BGV with a Judicar into bezerkers with a master of executions who gives them fights first. Turns out in 10th the defender picks first and their fights first trumps the charge. Something to be wary of, never charge into a fights first unit, even if you're fights first they go before you.

    I think its a key point you made about Oath, you can't rely on oath so looking for combos of units for +1s to hit or wound or have built in re-rolls allows you to create a 2nd oath situation where you might be able to point oath at one target, and then your synergy re-rolls as something else that isn't your oath target but they will still be reliable. So like Gladiator Lancer with their re-rolls, land speeders giving +1s to certain stuff, incursors giving +1 to hit for stuff they shoot at etc. trying to build lists with stuff like that. Also Captains for free strats considering the shortage of CP is important, so for a unit like Blade Guard maybe armour of contempt if they come under heavy fire from certain stuff etc.

      I fully agree with that
      something I will try is:
      Death Co on foot + Chaplain on foot + Razorback transport
      reroll to hit (black rage)
      +1 to wound (litany of hate)
      reroll to wound (fire support)

    As a side note - I’ll also be splitting my 10 man assault squad into 2x 5 man squads to reduce the overwatch impact.

    Worth noting that with the honour vehement enhancement, the captain in assault doctrine can be 11 attacks S7 AP-3, add in lance and you are basically doing the same or better than a squad of hellblasters overcharging.

    I’ve been running six of them with the primaris captain and a blade guard ancient in a drop pod, holding them until the second or third turn to drop them where they need and mostly clear an important objective. The ancient adding 1 to OC and once per game adding one extra attack to the captain.

    I have been running 3x Bladeguard + Captain + LT in an Impulsor w/ Comms Array. This is an incredible strike unit, which doesn't go down easily. There are a couple of fun interactions such as refunding the "free" strat with the comms array. Giving the unit Lethal Hits also applies to their otherwise limited shooting. The important thing about his Lethal Hits and the interaction with Red Rampage is it helps when you get charged, since Red Rampage is unable to be used in that situation.
    What is also nice about the LT, is he is not gear limited like his CPT counterpart, so taking a Plasma Pistol and Power Fist gives the unit even more versatility and allows it to punch up. This is particularly important for the fact that the Bladeguard provides re-roll 1's to hit for BOTH the CPT and LT. Should not be overlooked when considering adding 2 characters to any unit.
    I would replace the Ancient with an LT due to the versatility it provides in your favorite combo :).
    Great video!

    One thing you didnt talk about for the Primaris Champion is that he can take the Honour Vehment in the Gladius Strike Force. With Assault Doctrine, the trait and the lance strat can get pretty spicy for 70 points. I havent tried it out but throwing that squad with the champ into a big brick should scoop up a chunk of guys and snipe out the character.

    I have enough BGVs looking models to run 6 of them with a Judiciar or 3 of them plus a lieutenant and captain. On the one hand i really like the free stratagem and lethal hits that i would get with the lieutenant and captain, on the other i feel like only 3 veterans are would be way too squishy to do their job.

    Have you tried 6 Bladeguard Vets with a Primaris Captain (kitted Indomitus style with the Honour Vehement) along with a Bladeguard Ancient in a Drop Pod?
    Dropping into enemy deployment (first turn!) with that 4+ invuln and the free stratagem from the Captain makes them a pretty intimidating alpha strike squad for only 415

    I add judiciar for FF. However I have in mind to run 6bgv + cap + ancient in Land Raider and since I use Redeemer there is a capacity of 14. So another 5 assault intercessors with judiciary or Mephiston for ff. Or 3bgv and judiciar. In my opinion, it's important to have a unit with ff as means for counter-charge. Yeah, if you have super strategic instinct you can position yourself in a way where nobody can reach you, but I prefer to have this instrument since they charge something and then you can heroic and spoil their charge a lot.
    Another thing I have in mind, I don't think this -ap from gladius is good. Most of elite enemies will have some kind of invlul and I'm satisfied with with SoS bouns. Red Rampage in my opinion give more difference rather than ap-4 instead of ap-3. Plus, it works only in assault doctrine.

  • @pvrhye
    @pvrhye Před 11 měsíci

    I had a bad experience with bladeguard out of a land raider. They have those big bases, so since they need to be wholely within 3inches of the land raider, they have to wrap around the hull. They aren't like Assault Intercessors where you can stack them 2 bases deep. If you don't roll really well for the charge you end up with guys on the sidelines. I had a ton of attacks, but my captain just wiped out the front row before anyone else got to swing. Then the remaining gazillion crusaders and Grimaldus' crew came in on my opponents turn and mopped me up.

    I used my bladeguard with the Lieutenant for my Deathwatch. I think you're sleeping on the fall back and charge ability on top of lethal hits. Being able to fight first because you charged or it being your opponents turn means that it grants more than a Judicar would. That also allows you to fall back in a different direction and charge a different unit without penalty. Plus, most detachments don't have that ability, much less for free. I don't really see a good reason not to take the Lieutenant.

    • @inquisitorMence
      @inquisitorMence Před 9 měsíci

      @@ba_commander Well, if you want to make a double-character brick of a unit, the Bladeguard vets are a lot more points efficient, but for a regular unit I find the terminator squad's more balanced loadout and increased toughness overwhelmingly better.
      I've been very pleasantly surprised at how well rapid-firing storm bolters fare and I'm just not sold on S5 weapons, even at D2. The vets aren't good enough at their speciality to compete favourable with the multi-role terminators, imo. Add in Deep Strike, and Teleport Homer and I'm sold.
      Also, that 2+ armour save has been more relevant than I expected, so a flat 190 points for 5 terminators is more viable than just 180 points for 6 bladeguard. Terminator characters are too expensive, though.

  • @M1tZk1
    @M1tZk1 Před 4 měsíci

    I really steuggle with them. A 6 man squad is 180 points, and a 5 man terminator squad is 185.
    It's 5 points more for one less body, but they are just better in almost ever way. Tougher, hit harder in melee and in the shooting phase, have deep strike, also can get a captain, got the same 4++ but a better save.
    Bladeguards are dead in my eyes and that's so sad, because it's ine if the best looking units.
