Deleting the Hibernation file hiberfil.sys in Windows 7

  • The hiberfil.sys file is used for hibernation in Windows. It does however take up a lot of space, and is of no benefit to those who don't hibernate there machines.
    This video shows how to delete the file, and still use hibernation, if required.

    turning it on instantly took up space on my c drive however. so i turned it off again obviously.

    The trick at the end doesn't work for me. The hibernation file is recreated immediately after turning it back on.

    do not working on my laptop..cmd output:you donot have permission to enable or diseble the hibernate fature.
    now what i do?

      +Diganta Halder are you running with administrator privileges? You'll need to log on as an administrator or open the cmd window with administrator rights to perform the action successfully.

    hello sir , I did exactly as you did in video and really appreciate this so helpful step.. after some weeks I found a file under c: called Pagefile.sys and its size around 6 Giga ... what about it ??? can I delete it ???

      It’s a system file,deleting it will cause Blue screen of death

    thanks alot man my stupid computer was using almost 17g. And then i have 24g of ram. So my paging memory was like 24g or something which i changed to 1g.
