Beautiful woman, fine singer, but a very great stage actress. She acts the song. Only the greatest can do that. Garland. Streisand. Sinatra. Davis. Very few others.
Bernadette Peters us exquisitely beautiful... I've always thought she was one of the most consistently beautiful women in show business and she still is today. She has such perfect voice control. 🎼🖤
Amazing to think that when she was singing this, FOLLIES was about to open on Broadway. If you'd told her that someday she'd be starring on Broadway as Sally, the Dorothy Collins part....
This song from a hundred years ago, 'Look for the Silver Lining' was used in at least one musical, 'Til the Clouds Roll By'. I recall seeing it and realizing that the commercial I'd seen forever, back in the late sixties and early seventies thru eighties, was to the tune of it. The jingle went something like :" Look for the Union Label, when you are buying a coat dress or blouse. Remember somewhere, ....... the money's going to feed the kids and run the house. We work hard, but whose complaining....So always look for the Union label, means we are able to make it in the U.S.A.! So, they been setting things to the tune of songs FOREVER, and sadly. it didn't work as everything is made in Asia now.
Her overall performance -- voice, demeanor and expression -- makes one fully believe the encouraging message of this song. Class and style all the way! Thanks for posting the radiant Bernadette Peters at her very best!
Thank you for this beautiful video of the lovely Bernadette Peters! "Look for the Silver Lining" was written in 1919 by Jerome Kern and B.G. DeSylva. It was made popular by Marilyn Miller in the Broadway musical, "Sally". Incidentally, the airdate of this episode was March 21, 1971, making it the penultimate episode that Ed Sullivan hosted.

Wonder Full 🌝
There's no beating the great old songs! Today's music is garbage in comparison.

Wonderful singer and actress. Her role in "Pennies From Heaven" was brilliant and so tragic.

A perfect description of her performance! I agree completely!
Bernadette an awesome talent. I saw her about 5 years ago and she sounded great. Sondheim and Bernadette the perfect match
She does this beautifully. I love the way she performs. Her dress is pretty as well. She is a really classy lady.

Couldn't quite place this song, so thanks, Tom. Gotta love Buddy DeSylva & Jerome Kern!
@@michaeltuz608 Absolutely! Two of my favorite songwriters!
😎cool
Decades of making sad and depressed people go out there and keep people happy.
Things have been changing since but not much.
Petula Clark does a great cover of this Song.
So did Judy Garland.
They don't mak'em like her anymore....
