I have a 2018 Z650. Good things is the engine, gear, breaks and suspension. Change oil and you have this bike for ever! Throttle i had to fix with a tuneup, At the same time get them to adjust when the fan kicks in. Stock it kicks in at 120 degree Celsius and it boils over at 125 degree. I put on a full Akrapovic exhaust system . Only real complaint i have about the bike is bad plastic, turn-signals fall of and so on. And original tires are bad.

I bought new 2021 black z650 as my first bike and totally happy. Initially I was almost settled on mt07, but new z650 model in black with beautiful tft dash, bright led headlight, phone connectivity and adjustable rear preload along with levers turned to be a lot better proposition. It is great for beginners - thanks for low position allowing average rider to put both feet flat. The only thing really bugging me sometimes is vibration, but it has radically reduced after breaking in and first service. Very light and manoeuvrable machine.

Once he puts an exhaust on the bike it will really open up, absolutely agree about the stock tires I recently put a set of Michelin road 5’s on my bike and it completely changed how the bike felt. Having spent time on both, I like the Z650 over the MT07 for one big reason. I like sitting "IN" the bike better than "ONTOP" of the bike. The MT07 certainly sounds better, but I enjoy the ride more on the Z650/Ninja 650.

    • @Tashin32
      @Tashin32 Před 2 lety +8

@@ThePowerMoves the acceleration on the MT07 is a bit better, not going to lie. Will you notice a difference unless you're drag racing or trying to get the front wheel up? Probably not. Prior to the latest model year the suspension was laughable compared to the Z650. I haven't been on the latest MT07 so I couldn't speak for the revisions they made. The metal tank and shape on the Z650 is easier to grab with your knees and the bike felt a lot more nimble to me comparing the two. The plastic tank shell and shape on the MT-07 makes tank pads a must if you want to ride it spiritedly. Best thing to do is try and get some seat time on both to feel it for yourself. If engine sound is super important to you like it seems to be to a lot of YT reviewers than you might not like the Z650 just for that. Personally, I value the fun I have riding and the feel of the bike a lot higher than what sound it makes zipping down the road. My two cents on the matter after about 4k miles on a 2016 MT07 and about 7k miles on a 2019 Z650.

Agree with most of what noobster says. Nothing too exciting but very reliable. Longest cruise has been a 4 hr ride. Suitable to switch between upright seating and leaning. Alotta torque from gear 1 to 3. Easy to whiskey throttle for beginners.
Purchased this bike because it's great for all types of riding overall with no compromise to great seating ergonomics. Any CC higher and either you'll sacrifice ergos or you won't even use the full potential of the bike on the streets. Take it up to aggressive twisty roads, compare it to the SV and MT07. I found this most fun of the three, most ‘flickable’, despite being slightly heavier than the MT, I think it might have lower center of gravity why it feels that way, the short wheel base and slimmer rear tires and slightly stiffer suspension probably help with that too…So for canyon carvers and around town with heavy traffic I think this is the bike for its class.

I doubt that Yammie will read this, but committing about the throttle. The z650 and ninja 650 are known for the jumpy acceleration, but this is fixed with a tune. I owned a 2019 ninja 650 and once i got it tuned it fixed the 0-10% throttle jump you described.

I have the Ninja version of this, albeit a 2017 model. It is my second bike (with few miles - it is hard to ride in Germany in the fall/winter- and still loads to learn) and, coming from a 2016 CBR500R, I think it was the right choice. Loving it so far, wish the damn weather here allowed for more rides year-round.

@@rxmcord2392 I was perfectly happy with it as a beginner and could go plenty fast for my abilities. Plus, it is a very forgiving bike. And it looks cool. But if you clock in enough km after a year, then yeah, you will probably feel the need for the next step.

Under 4s 0-100km/h and paid it 2000€ 4 years ago. NO problems whatsoever after 40k kms on clock. Sound is really meh, and if you don't want to change exhaust pull the snorkels out and induction roars nicely in 4-8k rev range. Nice bike for everyday usage but underpowered if you want hoon bike

I sold my suzuki gsx 1250 because it was too large and had more power than I would ever use. I wanted something smaller and much lighter. I chose the 2020 Z650 mostly because of how it looks. I am 72 years old and have owned several motorcycles and this Z650 is the BEST motorcycle I ever owned. I disagree with Noob on this being a boring bike. It will do 130 mph and wheelies like crazy. It is only as boring as the rider. I also LOVE the stock exhaust.

While looking for A2 permit bikes I Had similar test ride experience with the z650 a2 version 45kw with the rear slipping out on acceleration out of a roundabout - I thought it was because it was early morning and road/tyre not hot enough. Did scare me though as I was on a test ride at a dealer. Engine sound and feel was really good - I had no complaints with the bike. I ended up going for aprilia shiver 900 in a2 version 45kw which was better equiped for 8000Euro on road exact same price 7400 Euro for both z650 and shiver900 before on road costs etc. In sumation I did enjoy the Kawasaki and it would be a better option for city riding but I do more highway trips and prefered the heavier aprilia + rider modes, adjustable forks, ride by wire etc .

Bought a new Z650 about 2 months ago. As a beginner rider I was nervous to start with but it inspires a lot of confidence. The 2020 model has a better ABS system, TFT and better tyres so I think Kawi have done a lot to address the foibles that the 2017-2019 model had. I tried a fair few bikes before settling on this one. The MT07 was too wide and the tech is too old. The SV650 is similar and the seat and rider position is horrible and brakes are crap. For me, the Z650 was best bang for buck. 100% agree on the induction note. Wonder if K&N do a filter?

I think it’s an excellent starter bike and I agree with all your negatives, especially the throttle when you roll off it hates having no throttle. I have no problem with the stock tires in corners but in emergency braking scenarios the back end always slides a bit on me but I chalk that up to rider error on my part. Good review man

I bought a Kawasaki z650 in 2018 as my first motorcycle after having been off the motorcycle for decades.
I desperately wanted a new motorcycle and I couldn't be happier with purchasing the 2018 z650.
I did notice the rather non-sticky tires myself I haven't changed them yet.
While making my choice I sat on the, at the time, FZ07. It was definitely super cool but I felt like it was a little bit too much for me at the time and the 2018 is z650 was cheaper by almost $1,000.
I love my 2018 z 650 and have commuted it multiple times to the office, a 72 mi round trip.
I love this bike and would recommend it to anyone who is on the beginner side of motorcycle riding!

Most OEM tires are plastic. Even if the tire make/model is the same as a tire you can buy from a tire shop, manufacturers often specify tires for specific models, and in that process the tire maker often cuts corners for cost reduction. Same thing applies for the automotive market.
