    The shaping on these looks way better in video than it did in the pictures and the build looks like a joy to put together other than maybe a few too many stickers. The real downsides from this set come from having to place stickers on parts we were previously told we wouldn't have to such as the windscreen, headlights and taillights. This could have easily been the first wave where I get every set but I think I'll have to skip out in this one

    Thankyou for your elaborate review once again! I can't wait to build this set and place it in my Le Mans collection, although I will still make my own BMW M hybrid moc. While the set has its highlights, I feel it still lacks in accuracy, and I still can't get over the cockpit piece, which has a completely wrong shape, now having to also put tiny and unnessecary stickers on it. As you demonstrated with the Porsche 963 windscreen, lego seems to be totally capable of printing on any area that now uses a sticker, so it remains a mystery why they did partial print and partial stickers. I also can't help hut wonder why we do get tyre printing for tge f1 set, but not here. Michelin printed tyres would have been awesome, and elevated the set even further. I also wonder if the old rims from the 6 stud wide era or mclaren f1 set would fit, that would also help this set a bit, as many of the hypercars have quite bespoke rims.
    As for the M4, it seems a blast to build! Using many fancy techniques with studs in almost all directions. Looking forward to your other reviews!

    A cool double set of racing cars. I do have a small gripe with each car; the windscreen on the GT3 doesn't quite sit nice and flush, due to the top of the driver's seat being just above the main body. On the Le Mans car, trying to attach the sides around the fin was impossible. Thank goodness for all the spare 1x1 bricks Lego provide! By adding 1 tile to each side on the middle connecting section, it sits well enough to be sturdy, while not too intrusive for a sleek look. Overall, a more challenging build in the Speed Champions range, but it's worth it (£44.99 in the UK)

  • @roelhendrickx4302

    I'm a long time Speed Champions fan.
    (I got really hooked when I realized that I had to agree with Balazs that SC are the theme that offer the most innovative building experiences and the best value-for-money of all Lego themes.)
    I own all the 8 studs wide vehicles and then a lot of the 6 stud wides (some of them modified).
    I'm sad to say that so far the 2024 offerings don't excite me a lot.
    I actually prefer some of the "more normal" cars (Dodge, Mustang, Porsche 911) and the street-legal supercars (Ferrari, Lamborghini) over the racing variations that one would never see in real life, and that are overly dependent on stickers for their look.
    I like SC cars for the way their curves and lines are created with bricks and new innovative brick connections, not for the way those looks are camouflaged with stickers.
    (In quite a few sets, I have left the sticker sheet untouched, and quite often the car doesn't look bad without them: you can appreciate their Lego-ness even more.)
    The 2024 line-up feels to me like reiteration of cars from previous years.
    Yes, a Formula 1 car is always nice and there are new parts and improved curves, but we already have that.
    In that respect, the only car that excites me from this year is the Dark Horse Mustang.
    (Having said that, I will probably pick all of them up at some point, maybe early next year when they end up in the bargain bin. But I am not a day-one buyer for any of them.
    As an AFOL who likes Lego for the building experience, I am much more excited in 2024 by the 3-in-1 Creator sets with animals (that giraffe; that fox!!) than by the Speed Champions cars.

  • @J03L-
    @J03L- Před 3 měsíci +13

    The cars look nice.
    But Lego needs a service where they place the stickers on the set for you.
    I have dyspraxia and I really struggle with stickers as my hands tend to shake when I do fine motor tasks and then I place the sticker wonky and ruin it trying to remove it and place it again.
    I would hate to build this and it’s personally the reason I don’t buy modern 8x8 speed champions sets.

    • @BuzzedtheTower
      @BuzzedtheTower Před 3 měsíci

      @@dsharp4763 I can understand that. However, the price for the kits have already spiked and I'd be willing to pay a couple extra dollars (no more than a $5 bump) for printed parts. I also don't believe that it would cost LEGO that much to add the correct prints to the sets. I don't like having to place the stickers myself in case they come out crooked. And while MOCs are cool, I'm not really concerned with printed pieces affecting that community.

    Both cars look phenomenal. Really like how much intricate detail, and unique building solutions went into each of them. About the stickers. I feel it's a valent complaint as with the tremendous amount of stickers on these vehicles there's no reason in the world why Lego has to add to the frustration by aligning tiny stickers on a rounded transparent surface. A sticker on windshield has never looked good and can be a real eye sore if not applied perfectly. May pick this one up.

    As someone who takes a lot of pride in my sticker placements. This set nearly drove me insane. Although I must say the finished M3 GT3 is gorgeous. I was skeptical of the 2024 Speed champion lineup given the price increase. Although I can’t emphasize enough that all 4 sets have vastly over delivered. The amount of details the designers added are unlike any previous speed champion sets and easily justify the price increase. Wail building the new sets I had at least a dozen moments where I was genuinely impressed with the building techniques. The designers weren’t afraid to use “illegal” connection which I loved to see. If this is the new standard for speed champions Im more than happy to keep buying them.

    Hello, first of all, thank you for the extraordinary work you do, I love the work you do. I couldn't agree more with you especially about the stickers. I have been assembling Legos for a long time and I am especially a fan of the cars and the Speed Champions set and I have to admit I do not like the excessive abuse of these in some sets. Not only do some of them come poorly trimmed or they don't look pretty at all or they don't make sense like the cabin of the car, and where these stickers bother me is the use on the front and rear lights, I prefer them to be transparent pieces like always. On the Pagani it's not that I was happy to see silk-screened headlights, but better this way than on stickers like the Toyota Supra. I didn't like it because of how it happened to the helmet, being transparent, one can't always align the stickers correctly so that they fit with the other pieces that join with them. Anyway, I really like the Set in general and as a fan I am waiting to receive my order, but I don't see anything wrong with saying that you don't like them, you are not the only one and you should always comment on the pros and cons of the product. Thank you very much for your work.

    I really like this line but this set having 71 stickers in one go is just pure madness. It’s funny how the age rating on these is so low yet adults like me have a hard time with stickers let alone 71 of them lol. I also think the fact that they want you to incorporate some with prints is crazy. As much as i wish lego would be completely out with stickers across all sets and just do prints, i would like at least a reasonable balance between the two.

    I am collecting SC since 8 studs, have all of them. But the price increase and more stickers on the 3 cars you've covered so far is undermining my decision to continue. Seems like LEGO increased the price, but reduced their cost with printing and used stickers instead. Not happy with the change, and only semi happy with cars this year. So far Audi seems the best looking one for me, BMW is ok, not really sure about the Mustang and McLaren.

    the bmw hypercar is the biggest speed champions flop imo, mainly bc the front bumper (im talking about the lights, they made it look like the 6 stud mustang and the new cars are not 6 stud)
    Now the m4 on the other hand…
    ABSOLUTE BANGER
    Side note: The hypercar design itself is pretty cool, and works well with the porsche. Hope they (can) add the lambo, ferrari, acura, caddy, alpine(basically every) in the future

    I like this two pack, but I’ll with you on that a new/old duo race pack be more interesting. The M1, particularly the M1 LM would be a good choice to go with the M4. Also I’m not a huge fan of the grill change BMW is doing. It looks so weird and doesn’t looked like the kidney stone grill design it’s supposed to be. Looks more like a pig snout than the iconic kidney stone design.

    It would be interesting to see if Lego did a double release with stickers and a lower price and only prints with a higher price. Personally I would be willing to pay a fair amount to skip the stickers.
    I understand the reasoning and I know it would be impossible to do, but I can dream 😁

    Hay Balazs. I think this Speed Champions double pack looks ok because of that amount of stickers it has. I would think the Ford Mustang Dark Horse and Audi S1 E-tron don't have that many stickers like this double pack. I will wait for your reviews on the last 2 sets for March.

    Brick Depot built the new Mercedes F1 last week and that has plenty of stickers - after all, it is a sponsered racing car, you always have the option to leave them off. My only issue with stickers is the longevity of colour and adhesion is unpredictable particularly in well lit conditions, as I display my cars I always consider using stickers carefully and will they enhance the model?

    My guess for the windshield is that with just the prints it is symmetrical which means it is easier to use in other builds. If this is the main reason, then it is good that they think about MOC builders too.

    • @demonbre
      @demonbre Před 3 měsíci +1

      No, that just sounds like an excuse. 80% of buyers want these cars, not MOCs.
      Why should I have to apply 35 stickers per car, so that someone out there can have a clean windshield piece to use in MOCs? They can just order the part.

    • @donatfehervari5762
      @donatfehervari5762 Před 3 měsíci

      @demonbre yes, this is just an excuse. But one of the main idea behind Lego is rebuilding. And I think this, and the higher production cost both are the reason, why they don't make 70 unique printed piece for a set.

    • @RacingBrick
      @RacingBrick  Před 3 měsíci

      The windshield piece already has some prints on it, so I think the reusability doesn't change much with the additional stickers.

    @RacingBrick 7:32 mayby it's related with new windscreen colour? Because they're a little bluish and when we'll put white prints they'll turn into light blue and red turn into violet.

      I mean, the blue that's already printed on looks more than ok to me and not many colours have been printed on trans black in official sets but there's a minifig head that doesn't seem to get any of the bluishness on it so I think it has to be something else

    I almost want to cancel my order for this set. Decorations like sponsor logos should be stickers so we can leave them off, but important details like the headlights and decorations that tie the different color bricks together MUST be prints. And that windshield sicker/print combination is an atrocity.

  • @tealelston
    @tealelston Před 3 měsíci

    I thought I would for sure buy these when they were announced, now I'm not so sure, maybe if they go on sale...
    I feel like the M4 doesn't match how crazy wide that race car is, and to me it feels way too blocky. I know it's made from bricks, and the curves and vents would be almost impossible without creating a bunch of one off pieces, but I feel like it could be better.
