I ran without foams on the front and rc4wd stock foams on the rear. As the tires were breaking in, I noticed that it started to give in too much, so I ended up picking up Crawler Innovations mini foams, and used it on my C10 and I really like it. czcams.com/video/NFqNTX3yEkQ/video.html

    Thanks for this haha. I saw 2 or 3 other videos where the guys were struggling with these wheels. I was going to buy this combo, but it seems I'm late to the party. The wheels are not available anywhere. Will get the tires for now though. Btw, you mentioned the issue of the wheels adding too much weight. On my C10 I will only add the brass diff cover and *maybe* the brass hex hubs cuz I dont like metal against plastic. Maybe since I wont have other weighted parts, that could help or the wheels are too heavy anyway?

    • @BigSungHobbies
      @BigSungHobbies  Před 3 lety +1

      The wheels will add 11g to each wheels for a total of 44g over stock tires and wheels. The issue is that it doesn’t help with weight distribution since the weight is being split in all four corners. I would recommend picking up HR brass knuckles. It’s the most effective weight adding 16g to the front while not adding rotational weight. Consider looking to MT Hobbies wheels. It’s really well made for 3d printed wheels and works really well plus the install is super simple. Good luck.

    great video! can you show an explanation on doing them opposite to make them deepdish?

    • @BigSungHobbies
      @BigSungHobbies  Před 3 lety

      Unfortunately, I no longer have the RC4WD Stamped Steel beadlock wheels, but it's pretty straightforward. Find the two centered holes, and mark them lightly, and mark the wheel hub accordingly. Move the wheel hub and match the holes, and then install the paper clip to those two holes. The rest is basically the same.

    • @thewooxer
      @thewooxer Před 3 lety

      How do you mean "make them deepish" ? Is there a way to make adjust the offset so they don't stick out so much??

    • @BigSungHobbies
      @BigSungHobbies  Před 3 lety +1

      @@thewooxer You can move the hub to the other side thus making the wheel deep dish. This will have the effect of widening the track width. If you do end up going this route, just make sure to mark the 2 holes that way you can easily align the holes. Other than moving the hub, there is no adjustment to offset.

    • @thewooxer
      @thewooxer Před 3 lety

      @@BigSungHobbies Thanks for the explanation. So it will make them just stick out more but is there a way to tuck them in the wheel wells more? Make the track width more narrow? I'm aiming for more scale looks (wheels under fenders).

    • @BigSungHobbies
      @BigSungHobbies  Před 3 lety +1

    Super Video, highly appreciated :-) Can you recommend this wheel/tire combination? Is it much better than stock?

    • @BigSungHobbies
      @BigSungHobbies  Před 3 lety +4

      The tires are great and highly recommended especially for a C10 version of the SCX24, and maybe even for Jeep version. For Deadbolt, it will be on the small end, thus other options might be better. The tires are much softer and has much better grip than stock tires. As for the wheels, I am a little mixed on it, and let me explain. The wheels with RC4WD Rock Creeper weighs 44gram more than stock C10 tires/wheels, roughly 11grams more on each wheel. It's good to have weight down low to help with center of gravity, but it doesn't do anything to overall weight distribution, and it adds a bit too much weight to overall rig. Stock C10 weighs 230 grams. After the tires/wheels, the overall weight went up to 274 grams. That's roughly an additional 19% weight added to the rig, and that's before adding some necessary weight to move the weight distribution to front. Quality of the RC4WD Stamped Steel beadlock wheels are pretty good (out of the bag, there 2 screws that were already cross-threaded, but a bit of blue locktite solved that). So I am in search of beadlock wheels to bring the overall weight down. But my search continues.

    • @wrxtc82
      @wrxtc82 Před 3 lety +1

      @@BigSungHobbies you answered a question I wanted to ask about the weight of these wheels. However, I thought that heavier wheels (some that include brass inserts) are designed to help these vehicles crawl better, is that not the case? It sounds like these particular wheels might hurt performance and run time, is that accurate? Thanks!

    • @BigSungHobbies
      @BigSungHobbies  Před 3 lety +1

      @@wrxtc82 The answer is unfortunately not straight forward. Weight on wheels serves its purpose by lowering the center of gravity (CG); however, it adds rotational weight which adds strain to the drivetrain. On a 1/24 vehicle, adding ~45g is roughly 20% of overall weight. So the motor and drivetrain have to work a bit harder. That being said, most rigs need some added weight in order to achieve 60/40 weight distribution. And those weight that is being added should be down low by the axles and static weight over rotational weight. One of the reasons, why I recommend weight redistribution as the first step to assess how much added weight is needed. In most cases for SCX24, I find that adding brass knuckles and brass diff cover to front will get you very close to 60/40 (maybe just a bit shy). I would add those weight before adding rotational weight. Hope that helps.

      I am not sure. I don’t use hex adapter on my SCX24s. Can you try without the hex adapter to see if the stock ones work? At least that way you can confirm if the issue is with wheels or not.

      @@BigSungHobbies Sorry I'm a newb to the hobby. The issue I'm having with is at the hub level. Right where you mount the wheel to the chasis. The rc4wd hub will not fit properly.

      @@jandjfunadventures7384 Hey welcome to the hobby! We all started at some point, so don't be too shy to ask question. Any issue is difficult to diagnose without being able to see what is going on. I recommend joining FB groups such as SCX24 Mods and Fun where you can post photo of the issue, and folks will be able to diagnose it better. Good luck.

    You are a Die Hard! These wheels are absolute garbage and I’ve tried them on several crawlers. They suck. They don’t fit the scx24 like everyone says they do and you you need to be Harry Houdini to fit them together. Hope you have 20 fingers or clamps or several tools.....

      Once you know the trick it is not that bad to put them together. The alignment and the hubs make it difficult if you do not have them aligned together. Use of paper clip makes it super easy to install. Go slow and try it out if you have not used this method. As for mounting, I have only used them on Rock Creeper tires, and they fit well without any issues, but I have heard stories that is not the case with all the wheels, so it looks like your mileage may vary. Fortunately, there are other options out there for SCX24 as well.

      With this trick it really is simple. Watched this video and then mounted 4 Goodyear wranglers in an hour with nothing but a paperclip and a 1.5mm hex driver. Mounted up on my C10 beautifully.
