I'm certainly late to the party here but have to comment. No single drill has changed the way I strike the golf ball like this one. I cannot emphasize enough. I did this drill in the house for about 30 minutes, went to the range, and I have NEVER in my life hit balls farther, more consistently, and with a better ball flight. Absolutely amazing stuff. I can't believe this doesn't have millions of views.

As a member of a golf club right down the street from me, I am constantly visiting the range changing things. The reason is that I can not escape early extension. Last year I found a groove but this year it’s back plaguing my game all the time. New ideas seem to work for four to 5 swings but then it resurfaces. No drill or even say swing has made a bigger impact on my game then this. Sure I miss but the ball come off the club flush. The shank or heal shot is not appearing anymore !

Like the last post I am also late to the party. All I have to say is This WORKS! If you struggle with shanking every iron and slice to early release DO WHAT HE SAYS! I must of watched the video 30 times and took it to the range and within a bucket of balls I was hitting it straight with no shanks, but you all know the real test is on the course.. I went from shooting 48-50 for 9 holes to a 39! Yes a freaking 39 with one 3 putt.. again this drill works and this is all coming from a golfer who has been looking for a repeatable swing for years! What a game changer!

Found this video and your cast to 8 o’clock video yesterday, I don’t know how but so glad I did! Went to the range today, when I done the move correctly I hit the ball effortlessly. I had watched so many videos saying casting was bad, this made me ‘hold the lag’ and release later, I was getting away with it on irons but woods and driver were a nightmare slicing. Today my woods and driver were so much better. I’m 100% sticking with this, just 2 thoughts - set the wrists, cast to 8 o’clock. Brilliant. I can’t thank you enough

Thank you so much Monte. I was practicing this drill in my room at 1am last night. Today I went and shot my lowest score ever a 93. 5 pars, the most I've ever shot in a round, and generally just hitting the ball so clean. I maybe only duffed or shanked one every now and again, but I was around 8/10 iron shots being really great shots, and this is after about an hr of practicing this drill. This drill really worked for me and the change was unbelievable. Can't wait to see what results more hrs of practice bring me. But I got injured in 2005 had carpel tunnel surgery on the rt hand stopped playing then hurt rt knee '06 had 2 arthroscopic surgeries then total replacement 2010. had weight loss surgery 2017, started playing again 6 months ago forgot everything I did before. Love the videos. I'm a 10 HC, who's been struggling all year, most scores have been in the mid to upper 80's. I have tried the A Swing and one plane swing, without much success. Tried this drill last Friday and shot 78 Saturday. I was doing the left are parallel drill today, when I remembered one of your videos where you say the left arm should cover an alignment rod laying just in front of your toes. I noticed my left arm was pointing out to the right of the target, so it was getting behind me a bit and pinned to my chest. Then I focussed on keeping the arm more over a rod, so it didn't get pinned against my chest, and I started striping balls. Seemed like I was hitting them as far with the half swing as my normal swing. Can't wait to plan again. Great stuff.

One of the greatest short golf lessons ever. I played well for years with the thought of slowing my hands down as they approach the ball. I am 6'4 and this has been the bane of my existence. Now I feel my right arm stays even with my right lat so I stay connected. And when I try to release the right arm faster.. the more shaft lean I show on video. Monte nailed it in one video. Incredible.

This video coupled with one from Mike Malaska completely fixed my swing. Speed went up, stopped flipping my hands and staying back while trying to hold the angle which had caused hooks and thin shots. I'd been trying to keep my right knee flexed to add resistance to fix a long hip turn. I love this video! I'm hitting them straight, out of the center, feels better and only have two swing thoughts instead of 10.

  • @GDKRichardson
    @GDKRichardson Před 8 lety +6

This is a great teaching, completely counter-intuitive even as it smashes the myths of the profession. Monte's "cast' of the right hand I've adapted to be a 'fire' of the right forearm. As the right elbow on the downswing tucks into the ribs at a forty-five degree angle to the spine, I very deliberately 'fire' the right forearm directly at the divot while watching the back of the ball. What an incredible increase in club-head speed when striking the irons! Monte's technique produces awesome results; I hit 100 balls with a six iron today and yesterday using Monte's technique; I've never hit them so far and so straight in the past twenty years. This is a great Scheinblum golf tip.

If you time this up with a little body rotation, you will be amazed at the shallowness and crispness of your swing. It doesn't get any better than this. No sway to the backside. No worries about forcing the get back to the L and worrying about a consistent low point. You’re already there, just stay put. Having been laid up with a bad back for a while it gave me time to Google for something that would help my inconsistent game. Have always struggled with a long swing which resulted in flipping the club through impact. Was able to get to the practice ground tonight and hit 20 balls. Not only did this drill produce superb strikes with proper divots after the ball (normally don't take any divot at all) there was a noticeable decrease of pressure on my back, in fact it was almost non existent. Looking forwards to hitting some more shots, next time with a 7i.

Probably why people struggle so bad is that the very instruction that's suppose to help them is actually the thing that keeps them struggling....ironic to say the least.

After 5 months of rehab, attempting to return to golf, I found that my overly long, runaway backswing was no longer going to work with my surgically repaired body. I have now adopted the no-turn, cast concept as my swing model. Early results are encouraging. Thanks Monte; I think this is gold.

I’m not gonna lie - after reading the comments here I was certain most of these people were paid promoters haha. I practice every single day of the week, multiple times a day most days. And I just took this super easy tip out today and it completely changed EVERYTHING. I hit two extra buckets at the range because I was so excited to see these balls flying so high/straight. Worked on every single club in the bag, to include my long irons and even the driver! Was a little hit or miss with woods off the ground, so I’ve got to keep working on that. If you’re reading the comments like me and trying to find a simple change you can make that will make a big difference - TRY THIS. Amazing. I think this is maybe the third video or product I’ve seen online EVER that I’ve felt obligated to comment on. And the fact that it’s not some fancy production, just Monte standing out there on a foggy morning with a thought to share just made it all that much better. Outstanding! I just tried this today and shot my second lowest round ever (84) in windy, soggy course conditions. It even worked well on my drives, which I didn’t expect. For someone who has always felt he suffered from flippy hands it was extremely strange to try and throw the angle with the right hand. I thought I would hook it off the planet but instead I hit a lot of great shots. I think he’s right when he says that the hard right hand/arm throw causes your brain to fire your hips fast enough to keep the hands from outracing them. Other than topping two fairway woods and one hook out of a fairway bunker, I hit most shots well. Yeah, it’s one round but I’ll be trying it again this weekend. Thanks Monty.

My teacher started me doing this very thing he calls it release from the top, went through the horror's for a couple of weeks but boy was it worth it, striking the ball right out of the middle of the club consistently.

I'm a solid 4 HC. I hit the ball high, and far. What you're describing here is dead on, my friend. I walk to every tee box, and approach shot, swinging the club in my right hand only. This allows me to feel the club face, feel the correct wrist hinge, and feel the direction that I need to swing the club to hit the ball at target. It will also make you finish your follow through strong. If you consciously try to hit the ball with your dominate hand, the rest of your swing will accommodate that intention. Brilliant stuff here, Monte.

@@richyclubsport5155 I swear. The key to golf is using the wrists properly. Too many people try to cock their wrists “up” in the backswing. This is wrong! It puts a huge cup in the left wrist, and puts the club severely across the line at the top. From there…. The face is weak, and the shaft is very off plane. They have to stall the body on the downswing to have time to square the face. And they have to reroute the club somehow to get it on a semi-functional plane coming down. If people will throw the right forearm “back”, and cock the right wrist “back” on their takeaway, golf becomes powerful, with less effort. This also automatically flattens, or slightly bows the left wrist, without even thinking about it. Right palm to the sky, right elbow pointed towards the ground also sets the club on plane at the top(holding a tray). This puts the left wrist flat, with glove logo about 45* towards the sky. Golf is much easier from that position.

      Don't agree with your assessment.
In my experience when the right wrist goes back into flexion early and the body turns at the same time, then the club is way behind you, and recovery is very difficult from there.

Damn it Monte, remake this video, this is the key to the entire golf swing. I started doing this after cobbling together a million other tips and I feel like one of those idiots posting "I couldn't believe how easily I hit it, and straight!" but it's the truth.

I've played golf almost everyday for over 15 years, have ranged from a 3 to 7 handicap, been struggling and tried this and immediately was shooting near par for the next two rounds, third round today was horrible and I came back to visit video and realized I am not connected again, great drill that can be used for real play.

I think this was the key to getting the club in front of me...finally!!! The casting part.
Getting right elbow in front of left hip without having to slow down hips. Less flip, hit a couple over 320...Thanks,

Hi monte, I watched this again after some months of bad ball striking...Had a lesson from a local pro who worked on my backswing motion and made a good upgrade there but I was still trying to hold the angle and my shoulders were getting way ahead on the way down... If I make a good backswing all I need to do is... not cast as such, but just feel like I just let my arms go and I hit some of the best shots I've ever hit.

This is very interesting. Lately I've sort of been trying to feel like I'm picking the club up more on my backswing as opposed to having an extremely low, wide takeaway (something I've been doing since I learned the game), and I've had the exact feeling of, "This doesn't feel like I'm turning at all." I need to watch my swing on video to see if the opposite is actually true.

the "No Turn" part of this lesson is something that really works for me. Hands down this video has changed my swing from good to awesome. Crushing it consistently now. Thanks Monte

This is very helpful, the key for me is to learn what you are doing differently and do things slowly to feel the difference. With a ball there it might not be possible to do something vastly different because your brain won’t allow you to miss the ball or hit it so differently from what you’re used to. So you really have to feel what’s going on. For me the only way is to combine the drill with his instruction or someone else’s instruction with video analysis.

lol....You got me unstuck with this. Took me about a year trying different things. best round of my life....Literally did not miss a shot the whole round. Highlight was a 4 iron from 230 to 5 feet on a par 5. Thanks Monte.

Add another tic mark to swings fixed... I had forever been a club puller, trying to manipulate the club into "impact" positions knowing that nothing felt genuine and these positions were so hard to repeat time and time again... once I began "casting" the club at the beginning of my downswing in a slight in to out circle everything just fell into place. Now finding the sweet spot is so easy and I'm hitting it pure with very little effort and much much more consistency and high draws down the middle of the fairway... every time. Thanks Monte... beat some sense into these other teachers regurgitating the same old information over and over again and taking advantage of people who hold them in high regards. Your new fan, Manuel.
