I'm certainly late to the party here but have to comment. No single drill has changed the way I strike the golf ball like this one. I cannot emphasize enough. I did this drill in the house for about 30 minutes, went to the range, and I have NEVER in my life hit balls farther, more consistently, and with a better ball flight. Absolutely amazing stuff. I can't believe this doesn't have millions of views.
Hi Ryan. Inspired by your post here from a year ago. Only saw it last night. Looks amazing and tries with irons. Does it work with woods too? Thanks
@@hughwilliams-preece5938 With driver be sure to sht "Up" on the ball.
As a member of a golf club right down the street from me, I am constantly visiting the range changing things. The reason is that I can not escape early extension. Last year I found a groove but this year it’s back plaguing my game all the time. New ideas seem to work for four to 5 swings but then it resurfaces. No drill or even say swing has made a bigger impact on my game then this. Sure I miss but the ball come off the club flush. The shank or heal shot is not appearing anymore !
Am I missing something because this video talked about a drill but never showed you how to do the drill 🤔
Agreed its pants.
Like the last post I am also late to the party. All I have to say is This WORKS! If you struggle with shanking every iron and slice to early release DO WHAT HE SAYS! I must of watched the video 30 times and took it to the range and within a bucket of balls I was hitting it straight with no shanks, but you all know the real test is on the course.. I went from shooting 48-50 for 9 holes to a 39! Yes a freaking 39 with one 3 putt.. again this drill works and this is all coming from a golfer who has been looking for a repeatable swing for years! What a game changer!
You saved me from quitting the game. This is a game changer. Thank you.
This feel that you speak of immediately eliminated my inside takeaway and got my swing back on track. Thanks so much once again!
Monte always love your golf instructions, plain and yet so simply intricate !
Monte this golf video forever changed my ball striking! Thank you thank you
I'm amazed at how well that worked. Went to the range with those tips and followed with one of my best rounds. Thanks!
Monte is brilliant! I used this drill today and everything finally became clear after years of lessons. This makes so much sense!
This is so good and helpful Monte! Thanks so much. Counter-intuitive is the word!
Wow! This is totally incredible! This video will be my go to video to remind me how simple a swing can be.
YESSSS!!! after so many golf lesson, this video finally has me swinging so easy and with beautiful contact. Thanks
Genius. Instantly, no fat shots and connected. It works. Thank you for sharing.
Best golf instructor out there... Cuts thru the bullsh..!
Not looking for return customers... The fix is the thing!
Love this video well done for your "feel vs reality " explanations
Great explanation and visuals of a couple of major issues many have in their swing - looks pretty tension free as well. Keep up the videos.
Found this video and your cast to 8 o’clock video yesterday, I don’t know how but so glad I did! Went to the range today, when I done the move correctly I hit the ball effortlessly. I had watched so many videos saying casting was bad, this made me ‘hold the lag’ and release later, I was getting away with it on irons but woods and driver were a nightmare slicing. Today my woods and driver were so much better. I’m 100% sticking with this, just 2 thoughts - set the wrists, cast to 8 o’clock. Brilliant. I can’t thank you enough
Thank you so much Monte. I was practicing this drill in my room at 1am last night. Today I went and shot my lowest score ever a 93. 5 pars, the most I've ever shot in a round, and generally just hitting the ball so clean. I maybe only duffed or shanked one every now and again, but I was around 8/10 iron shots being really great shots, and this is after about an hr of practicing this drill. This drill really worked for me and the change was unbelievable. Can't wait to see what results more hrs of practice bring me. Thank you so much I've subscribed to your channel and have started watching some of your other clips
Brilliant. Without a doubt the best CZcams teacher anywhere. I know this isn't always important but Monte has the best golf swing of any golf teacher I've seen, add to that he'll drive it past them all. Monte I hope you're well paid because you're the very best at what you do.
This is still hands down the BEST golf tip (or whatever you want to call it) ever put out there.
Contrarian instruction at its best thank you!
Best drill for hitting solid irons, unbelievable how well it works! Thankyou so much for this video!
Thanks for such a prompt response. I was at the range and was using the
No backswing method with my five wood and loved it. It simplified my swing and I felt total control. Regards
Very well done. Excellent, counter-intuitive, explanation. You provide some of the best explanations in golf instruction today. I think the golf channel folks on TV suffer from having to fill air time every day, so they are forced recycle cliches. Most would benefit from watching 30 minutes of your videos and practicing a whole lot more. Thanks for the labor of love!
Monte, I started golfing 41 ys ago after reading Jack Nicklaus' book "Golf My Way" and the one drill I got was skipping a stone motion with the right hand, never had a lesson and was shooting in the low 70's (shot 74 at Pebble Beach 4 times). But I got injured in 2005 had carpel tunnel surgery on the rt hand stopped playing then hurt rt knee '06 had 2 arthroscopic surgeries then total replacement 2010. had weight loss surgery 2017, started playing again 6 months ago forgot everything I did before. Driver clubhead speed was 80mph 180yds after watching 2 of your videos your swing is what I used to do now up to 95mph 230+ yds and no knee pain. Thanks for getting back my simple swing again.
Paul Azinger felt like he was casting his right hand and hit the ball with right palm facing the ground! Monte you are awesome!
Love the videos. I'm a 10 HC, who's been struggling all year, most scores have been in the mid to upper 80's. I have tried the A Swing and one plane swing, without much success. Tried this drill last Friday and shot 78 Saturday. I was doing the left are parallel drill today, when I remembered one of your videos where you say the left arm should cover an alignment rod laying just in front of your toes. I noticed my left arm was pointing out to the right of the target, so it was getting behind me a bit and pinned to my chest. Then I focussed on keeping the arm more over a rod, so it didn't get pinned against my chest, and I started striping balls. Seemed like I was hitting them as far with the half swing as my normal swing. Can't wait to plan again. Great stuff.
Hey Monte, I was hitting my irons all over the place and recently been doing this drill with a small backswing and although I am hitting the ball slightly less distance I have never hit it straighter and lowering my score. It makes sense love this drill !!
I'm amazed how this has changed my ball striking. Brilliant
Changed my swing, immediately! Thanks for the tips.
Brilliant Monte! My pro showed me this many years ago and it enabled me to hit the ball the furthest
Subsequently with more lessons over the years from different teachers (none of whom taught the same thing!) I got shorter and much more erratic! Now back on track. Many thanks! Regards Ian Inverness Scotland
Nice! Casting has helped me maintain a slight in to out swing path. I feel like I am casting the club straight back but in reality that is feel only. It is actually helping me to shallow the club and allowing my arms and wrist to stay in the proper sequence.
Hey Monte, you are an amazing teaching pro, thanks for this informative golf video.
Frank
Very helpful and insightful...you are so right about the golf swing being counterintuitive...please keep up the great work...
One of the greatest short golf lessons ever. I played well for years with the thought of slowing my hands down as they approach the ball. Then I spent years trying to gain lag, which was a mistake. I find that when I feel that I release early, my timing is better and I square the clubhead consistently.
Tried your no turn cast swing today in a inter club match and to my suprise, I shot an 80 my lowest round of theYear. My previous was a 91. Cain't wait to see what happens after I practice this drill some. At 78 I thought my best golf was behind me, now I think shooting my age is now possible. Thanks for putting this video on utube.
This is one to best advice ever. Makes logical sense and works! one thing Monte forgot to add (not modest enough) is that this will keep you centered. thumbs up mate.
i bought your no turn video and tried it last two days, shot 76 today. I think it works!!
Monte this is the simplest, efficient and shortest golf video I have found. Thank you for sharing it. I am looking forward to trying it.
All that I can say.. is Monte has this one correct. I took videos of myself in slo-motion (iphone 6) and I was the guy forcing his hips with disconnected arms. I am 6'4 and this has been the bane of my existence. Now I feel my right arm stays even with my right lat so I stay connected. And when I try to release the right arm faster.. the more shaft lean I show on video. Monte nailed it in one video. Incredible.
Thank you sir!
This might be the best golf video I have ever seen on youtube. Everything so true. At the moment I am trying to turn and hit the ball straight from the top and I am hitting the ball better than ever. Staying relaxed is important though.
But the feeling of turning and hitting from the top helps me so much. I always used to come too much from the inside and shanking and hittin fat shots.
Monte,
No, you have not lost your mind, in the early 90s I just started playing golf and an instructor at a small driving range in KC taught similar techniques. Of course I had forgotten his simple but effective lesson plans thank goodness I stumbled across your teaching lessons on uTube.
Thanks for saving my interest in the great game of golf
Frank
This video coupled with one from Mike Malaska completely fixed my swing. Speed went up, stopped flipping my hands and staying back while trying to hold the angle which had caused hooks and thin shots. I'd been trying to keep my right knee flexed to add resistance to fix a long hip turn. I love this video! I'm hitting them straight, out of the center, feels better and only have two swing thoughts instead of 10.
Two words.......Simply amazing! Set the wrist and throw it under hand. I can't believe how well I strike the ball.
Apart from, this is Gold. All I can say is that finally someone is talking sense and not marketing a 'new swing theory'. Cheers mate you deserve to be recognised.
G Sea I
I will try this as it makes tremendous sense especially in terms of forcing your shoulders to turn a certain way merely by keeping your left arm tight against the chest. Insightful!!! will get back
I'd been shanking and looked for some advice on youtube and stumbled across this tutorial. I play off 12 and today hit the best round I have ever hit, dropping no shots on the front 9. I've slowed it down and just trying not to hit too hard and keep the tempo right. Amazing. Thanks.
monte, this is the way i used to swing that i learned from peter kostis's book back in the early 80's. why i got away from it i don't know, i guess the early wrist set wasn't kosher but it worked. the no turn cast swing does work. thnx for bringing it back to us, and it's very simple to perform. steve
Simply tremendous instruction. Why this is not a mainstay of modern/traditional teaching is beyond me. I have review a lot of golf instruction over the past 5 years and I can honestly say that Monte is the best out there. This tip along with your guide for a perfect backswing video (blending the three elements... 1. wrist cock 2. forearm rotation 3. shoulder turn) have literally transformed my golf swing. Thank you, Monte!
I can't believe I just found this video. I watched it once, tried it on the range, took me probably 7-8 swings, then just pure flushed the rest of the bucket. Need to work on long irons but the concept is the same. Absolute gold advice. You've earned a new fan Monte, definitely will be looking into your website.
This is a great teaching, completely counter-intuitive even as it smashes the myths of the profession. Monte's "cast' of the right hand I've adapted to be a 'fire' of the right forearm. As the right elbow on the downswing tucks into the ribs at a forty-five degree angle to the spine, I very deliberately 'fire' the right forearm directly at the divot while watching the back of the ball. What an incredible increase in club-head speed when striking the irons! Monte's technique produces awesome results; I hit 100 balls with a six iron today and yesterday using Monte's technique; I've never hit them so far and so straight in the past twenty years. This is a great Scheinblum golf tip.
Best advise for golf on planet incredible cheers monte
Monte, the flipping of the club fix my casting issues.
Thanks!!!
Just discovered this and without even trying it I know it's what I need. Sunday can't come soon enough!
I have wathed thousands of golf lessons on youtube, and this is the single greatest piece of advice on the internet. If you time this up with a little body rotation, you will be amazed at the shallowness and crispness of your swing. It doesn't get any better than this. I think everybody always forgets to swing the clubhead, as opposed to the handle or shaft. Swing the clubhead!
Monte the best ever. Thank you.
Tried this today at the range, astonishing how this works for me anyhow .
Used this with throwing away the wrist angle.
This also for some reason also fixed my over the top swing and stopped me from pulling shots.
just need to try on the course now.
Monte , believe it or not, this drill helped me hit more solid shots with my driver also. Thanks !
Another awesome video Monte!
Monte: I Hope you get this! The greatest drill ever. Connection to the max! And here’s the bonus - by not consciously forcing the turn, seems as if it’s so easy to “stay over the ball”. No sway to the backside. No worries about forcing the get back to the L and worrying about a consistent low point. You’re already there, just stay put. Every few months I have to come back to review this video. It’s like going to church. Hope you’re well. We need more from you on CZcams. I hope they’re giving you enough monetizing to make it worthwhile.
Having been laid up with a bad back for a while it gave me time to Google for something that would help my inconsistent game. Have always struggled with a long swing which resulted in flipping the club through impact. Was able to get to the practice ground tonight and hit 20 balls. Not only did this drill produce superb strikes with proper divots after the ball (normally don't take any divot at all) there was a noticeable decrease of pressure on my back, in fact it was almost non existent. Looking forwards to hitting some more shots, next time with a 7i.
Best drill you've ever come up with. Filmed myself and you bet ya a$$ it works. And I took a full turn lol
Golf is a goofy mental game.
Monte, you're the man!!
Great explanation and just shows how counter intuitive the golf swing is. Many who look at 2d video think what they see is the way to perform it but it's like what you see is an effect and the cause of that effect is an opposite move.
Probably why people struggle so bad is that the very instruction that's suppose to help them is actually the thing that keeps them struggling....ironic to say the least.
Thanks Monte, you're helping a lot of golfers...keep up the fine work.
I have experimented with this drill/feel a few times in the past, with some success but never stuck with it. Recently, I had an accident and injured my lead elbow and shoulder. After 5 months of rehab, attempting to return to golf, I found that my overly long, runaway backswing was no longer going to work with my surgically repaired body. I have now adopted the no-turn, cast concept as my swing model. Early results are encouraging. Thanks Monte; I think this is gold.
Great stuff, have been looking at my faults and have came to the same conclusion on my swing.
After golfing for 30 plus years. I am still obsessed with golf videos. Who says God doesn't have a sense of humor?
I’m not gonna lie - after reading the comments here I was certain most of these people were paid promoters haha. I practice every single day of the week, multiple times a day most days. And I just took this super easy tip out today and it completely changed EVERYTHING. I hit two extra buckets at the range because I was so excited to see these balls flying so high/straight. Worked on every single club in the bag, to include my long irons and even the driver! Was a little hit or miss with woods off the ground, so I’ve got to keep working on that. If you’re reading the comments like me and trying to find a simple change you can make that will make a big difference - TRY THIS. Amazing. I think this is maybe the third video or product I’ve seen online EVER that I’ve felt obligated to comment on. And the fact that it’s not some fancy production, just Monte standing out there on a foggy morning with a thought to share just made it all that much better. Outstanding! Just upset this was made almost a decade ago and I’m just now seeing it…
This fixed my driver slice and got me a much better trajectory with all clubs.
I just tried this today and shot my second lowest round ever (84) in windy, soggy course conditions. It even worked well on my drives, which I didn’t expect. For someone who has always felt he suffered from flippy hands it was extremely strange to try and throw the angle with the right hand. I thought I would hook it off the planet but instead I hit a lot of great shots. I think he’s right when he says that the hard right hand/arm throw causes your brain to fire your hips fast enough to keep the hands from outracing them. Other than topping two fairway woods and one hook out of a fairway bunker, I hit most shots well. Yeah, it’s one round but I’ll be trying it again this weekend. Thanks Monty.
This short video has given me confidence that I lacked to put a solid hit on the ball. Thank you!!
Gonna give this a go. I have a double miss going on right now. Pull hook on tee shot. Finish hole 2 to 3 over. Over correct on next hole big push slice. 2 to 3 over. With random good shots sprinkled throughout. Making the swing much simpler would be great. And he explained it in a way anyone can understand.
Still the Best.Golf Drill. Ever
Don't usually write comments, but my hat is off to you my friend. That did the trick!
This is a great explanation Monty
Monte this is unreal... Hinge and fire the Right hand!!! i have never hit the ball so good. So simple and took to the course with a 3 over round. wow.
Thanks, I used to know a man that played like this. But I disregarded his method as one that would work for me. He was a top Amatuer.
really really good advice Monte . Thank You
I keep coming back to this. I play off 4 and have scrapped my swing to try this. Feels simple and consistent. I'll keep you posted
How’d it go
Playing off a 9, would love to hear an update 👀
I have spent almost a year on the driving range working with a professional instructor. It's 10 years from I played golf.
My teacher started me doing this very thing he calls it release from the top, went through the horror's for a couple of weeks but boy was it worth it, striking the ball right out of the middle of the club consistently.
Give this guy's teaching a go but don't give up after a few swings.
I'm a solid 4 HC. I hit the ball high, and far. What you're describing here is dead on, my friend. I walk to every tee box, and approach shot, swinging the club in my right hand only. This allows me to feel the club face, feel the correct wrist hinge, and feel the direction that I need to swing the club to hit the ball at target. It will also make you finish your follow through strong. If you consciously try to hit the ball with your dominate hand, the rest of your swing will accommodate that intention. Brilliant stuff here, Monte.
I agree, 3.8 handicap, almost 70 hitting it as far, if not further than ever, and most importantly absolutely no strain on my body, no complicated swing thoughts
@@richyclubsport5155 I swear. The key to golf is using the wrists properly. Too many people try to cock their wrists “up” in the backswing. This is wrong! It puts a huge cup in the left wrist, and puts the club severely across the line at the top. From there…. The face is weak, and the shaft is very off plane. They have to stall the body on the downswing to have time to square the face. And they have to reroute the club somehow to get it on a semi-functional plane coming down. If people will throw the right forearm “back”, and cock the right wrist “back” on their takeaway, golf becomes powerful, with less effort. This also automatically flattens, or slightly bows the left wrist, without even thinking about it. Right palm to the sky, right elbow pointed towards the ground also sets the club on plane at the top(holding a tray). This puts the left wrist flat, with glove logo about 45* towards the sky. Golf is much easier from that position.
Don't agree with your assessment.
In my experience when the right wrist goes back into flexion early and the body turns at the same time, then the club is way behind you, and recovery is very difficult from there.
Damn it Monte, remake this video, this is the key to the entire golf swing. I started doing this after cobbling together a million other tips and I feel like one of those idiots posting "I couldn't believe how easily I hit it, and straight!" but it's the truth.

I've played golf almost everyday for over 15 years, have ranged from a 3 to 7 handicap, been struggling and tried this and immediately was shooting near par for the next two rounds, third round today was horrible and I came back to visit video and realized I am not connected again, great drill that can be used for real play.
This has fixed my golf swing thankyou
I think this was the key to getting the club in front of me...finally!!! The casting part.
Getting right elbow in front of left hip without having to slow down hips. Less flip, hit a couple over 320...Thanks,
Great Video, everything makes sense!
as someone with an overswing.. im looking forward to trying this on the range
Brilliant. Greetings from Finland
best golf instructor in world
Hi monte, I watched this again after some months of bad ball striking...Had a lesson from a local pro who worked on my backswing motion and made a good upgrade there but I was still trying to hold the angle and my shoulders were getting way ahead on the way down... If I make a good backswing all I need to do is... not cast as such, but just feel like I just let my arms go and I hit some of the best shots I've ever hit.
This is very interesting. Lately I've sort of been trying to feel like I'm picking the club up more on my backswing as opposed to having an extremely low, wide takeaway (something I've been doing since I learned the game), and I've had the exact feeling of, "This doesn't feel like I'm turning at all." I need to watch my swing on video to see if the opposite is actually true.
Monte, you are great.
the "No Turn" part of this lesson is something that really works for me. Hands down this video has changed my swing from good to awesome. Crushing it consistently now. Thanks Monte
Do other pros know that you told the real secret of the swing? Thanks for sharing! It really works!!
This is very helpful, the key for me is to learn what you are doing differently and do things slowly to feel the difference. With a ball there it might not be possible to do something vastly different because your brain won’t allow you to miss the ball or hit it so differently from what you’re used to. So you really have to feel what’s going on. For me the only way is to combine the drill with his instruction or someone else’s instruction with video analysis.
Came here to say I’ve been struggling with what the hell to do with my arms and this was the ah ha moment I needed and my mind is blown monte you’re a god!!
lol....You got me unstuck with this. Took me about a year trying different things. best round of my life....Literally did not miss a shot the whole round. Highlight was a 4 iron from 230 to 5 feet on a par 5. Thanks Monte.
Too bad you didn't make the putt.
After 30 years duffing so many shots, this works. Great fix.
Add another tic mark to swings fixed... I had forever been a club puller, trying to manipulate the club into "impact" positions knowing that nothing felt genuine and these positions were so hard to repeat time and time again... once I began "casting" the club at the beginning of my downswing in a slight in to out circle everything just fell into place. Now finding the sweet spot is so easy and I'm hitting it pure with very little effort and much much more consistency and high draws down the middle of the fairway... every time. Thanks Monte... beat some sense into these other teachers regurgitating the same old information over and over again and taking advantage of people who hold them in high regards. Your new fan, Manuel.
Here in 2021! This is still gold!
I have just reviewed this thanks to your blog and just had a light bulb moment. Awesome.
And it seems all the stars have lined up because at this very moment you have 123 vids and 4567 subscribers...
looking forward to trying this one
This works for me. Thanks Monte.
