- The Craftsman 12-Inch Tilt Head bandsaw is designed for a safer, easier work method. The head tilts so that you don't have to tilt the work, affording a flat, level work surface with which to do precision work on. This is the most versatile band saw in it's class with a powerful 1-1/8 h.p. motor and a 23" x 27" work surface that you can lock a fence onto.

I grew up watching my grandpa do his woodworking on this same bandsaw. Now, that same saw is putting out my woodwork 35 years later, if that says anything about the quality. I think the craziest thing about my saw is that it’s been moved several times over the years and it still has the original working light bulb! They just don’t make machines like that anymore. You said it yourself, “1 1/8 hp, you don’t see that much anymore.” I loved this saw when I was a child and I love it even more so now that I’m grown and actually know what I’m doing with it. Very versatile and just an ask around excellent saw. Great video and thanks for sharing!
Thanks man, just bought one with digital function. Appreciate the info and look forward to making some epic art and jewlrey
Hey Frank,
Thanks for the reply, I grabbed one that was on sale locally, and I'm very happy with it, a great saw, I just had to buy new batteries for the digital read-out. The seller even gave me 10 extra saw blades.
wow I had one of these many years ago. I see the prices , someone payed like $70 someone else $125 , over here cant get one for under $900 to $1200 , that is the beauty of being there , you can get good deals and well taken care of...nice video thank you for sharing
The groove IS for a fence. I have an identical saw and mine has a fence. I love it. It is very similar in design to the Craftsman table saw fence. Also the cover comes off easier if you pull out from the bottom along the table instead of the top. :)
+Rick Ringer Thanks for your input Rick. It's always good to take the mystery out of an unknown item like that. I'll have to see if Craftsman still offers that fence for this saw.
I have one just like that. I have used it for about 10 or 12 years, I think I paid $100. bought it at a flea market. And it is all metal. good saw.
Got mine at the thrift store for $50. It didn't have the stand anymore, so I had to build one with some two by fours, and the blade was dull as a modern art piece. Great saw though.
Thanks Justame...
Thanks for making this video! I bought this saw off a guy with no user manual. Could NOT figure out how to change speeds. Never occurred to me to look at the motor for belt adjustment. I was looking for a switch.
Also, noticed someone said in the comments that bandsaws don't use fences. Nothing could be farther than the truth. I use a fence with mine all the time. It came with one.
Anyway, thanks again for the video. Cheers!
+Beach Bum Woodworker Yes, this saw does come with a fence. It's the only bandsaw that I've ever known to have a fence.
I have this same saw but with a 1 hp instead of 1 1/8 hp motor. It is a great little saw.
Hey Nathan do you know anything about aligning the drive belt pulleys. Is the motor pulley the only one you can adjust or can you adjust the other pulley as well
I bought this saw for $40. I did the tune up bought a resaw blade and milled a ton of maple veneer etc. Problem is the table to blade guide only allows 6 inch board. I built a fence out of the mitre which was really simple. This saw is good especially if you can't spend $700 up to get one to mill bigger boards and more updated features. There are two identical saws like this one doesn't cut metal.
What insert do you use for the 16th inch blades? I recently got this saw but it needs some love!
Great saw but I cannot cut straight with jig in track. Everything is adjusted to specs but blade gets pinched and strays to side. Any comment thanks. Dan
I bought this new in the early 90's. It's still in almost new shape. It DOES HAVE the fence that came with it. I wanted to post a picture for those that haven't seen one but you can't do it on CZcams comments.
These are great and versatile saws.
Mine was 40 bucks and had the fence...i love it....
*Worked perfectly right out of the box **MyBest.Tools** a nice compact bench bandsaw, that will work with 1/4 to 1/2 inch blades! First use was a joy, better quality than I expected for the price ! ! !*
Have you seen the fence for this saw? Would like to purchase one.
Hey Frank, is the saw still up for grabs?
Thanks in advance...Roy
How much should I sell this exact model for? It's been sitting in my basement with no use. Thank you very much!
Anyone know the model # for this saw? I have the exact same one I p/u at a garage sale and it needs an on / off switch.
yes, I can send you a picture of mine if I can figure out how
I've got one of this saw myself. Paid $125 myself. looking to get a guide fence for it.
Frank, you didn’t show the adjustment knob for the blade height. I have a 14 “ model that looks exactly the same.
“
it looked liked your video that you just hit the back of the front table to get it in there. the directions in the OM says Push the front edge of the table backwards and downward. how for backwards?
Where the saw blade is on the table it looks the the opening is rough cut on mine. Can’t see on this one but looks the same Was it supposed to look like that?
Does anyone know the ,belt #
What is a saw like this worth in a sale? What did you sell it for? I have one like it. I was considering selling it.
Can someon please provide the S/N off this saw for me? I'm trying to get the saw User Manual "On-Line" but can only find the saws that do not tilt, and my S/N has worn off...
I just got one of these have you ever used it to cut fine curves i thoght it might be better than my jigsaw
It's hard to beat a Jigsaw. I have one of those in my shop. The blade on this band saw is much too wide to get much of a radius out of any cut.
Does anybody know the model number of this saw??..I need to find some parts and the fence guide..
Model 113.248321
113.248322
Just paid 50 dollars for mine in great shape.. what size is the blade if i were to purchase another one?
They are 80" long
hi i saw a used one of these for $50 should i buy it?
Two Words: Hell yeah!
I have a craftsman 12 inch bandsaw. Per the manual, to square the blade, I need to adjust with a set scew. However, it does not matter how much I turn this scew I cannot get the blade square with the table, any suggestions?
Sorry. I sold this unit a number of years ago. I would do a query on the internet or go to manualslibrary.com to see if the manual can be printed.
I have the same identical saw but I need the drive belts and and I don't have a model number that's a blank tag what is the model number on that 2nd order some belt Thank you very much
I'd like to help you Daniel, but I sold this saw a long time ago.
I need a fence for this saw?.
I'm looking for one as well..Did you have any luck finding one yet?
@ Albert. I misspoke. Only circular saws like radial arm saws or table saws use fences. A band saw only uses a miter gauge. I can only assume that the edge of the table on this saw is designed that way to possibly add interlocking table extensions. Does anybody out there know if craftsman makes table extensions?
+Frank Hamilton Nope, there's a fence for it. Better band-saws have fences. I have the exact same saw as in your video, and have the original miter gauge and fence for it.
Thanks for the clarification, kidadd!
You're welcome, thanks for the video! I bought it not too long ago, and learned a lot about this saw from you.
+kidadd Nice! The sky's the limit with this saw.
See my comments above. It came with a fence when bought new.
Where can i get replacement blades for this since Sears whent out of business
If you know the length of the blade, you can easily find one out there. Harbor Freight may also have one.
I am having trouble getting mine to turn on, as to I am genuinely confused how the switch works. I know that may sound dumb, but I would appreciate any help, tips or videos on starting the machine. Thank you
Either the switch is bad or the motor is bad. If you switch it on and it trips a circuit breaker, it's likely that your motor is bad.
Did you take the lock out of the switch? If so it won’t turn…
Thanks i bought it today for $50...came with 3 diff width blades...nice....also bought a 10in craftsman $50 table saw 315.228310 a more rugged model than my old home depot small 10in skill saw lol...the saw blade direct drive it its belt diven came with 5 diff blades and special bonus a brand new cmt orange tools dado pro set..For $100 i think i did well....not sure advantages or disadvantages of direct drive vs belt drive....
Nice!
Just bought one like this for $125. I got a 3/8 inch blade but in just slips between the guide blocks, which causes the teeth to rub against them and dull. How to i fix this? Thanks
I've never hear of this issue on one of these saws. You might want to check that both wheels are in alignment or if one of the wheels is bent. If that's not the issue, you'll want to get a hold of the Craftsman manual for this saw and go through the trouble shooting tree.
Yeah, I'll flip through the manual. I haven't noticed that the guide was bent. It's just that the bearing behind the guide blocks doesn't support that small of a blade. Is there a way to move the back bearing forward so it will keep the teeth in front of the guide?
I don't have this saw anymore, so my advice on the subject is totally from memory.
the manual can be found online it refrences all adjustments. model 103-24280 i believe
try 113.248320
the height can't be more than six inches??
+Long Ho This is a non-commercial saw, so the throat is limited to 6 inches. The only time you'll see more out of a bandsaw is if you spend a few thousand dollars on a high end professional band saw.
Someone gave me one but I think the switch is bad won’t turn on
Maybe missing the yellow square 🟨 safety thing
I just bought one off Craigslist for $70.00. Anyone know what they cost new?
The non-tilting 14-inch band saw is $400, so you got a great deal. I don't know if there is a tilt head band saw any more. I sold the one in this video for $600.
+Frank Hamilton Wow thats awesome! Yeah I have the tilting version. Thanks for responding. Nice to know I got a deal.
It's actually only a 5/8 horsepower motor, Sears uses crafty, misleading advertisement on all their power tools. You notice it says 1-1/8 maximum developed horsepower, which is what they rate the machine at after gear reduction has been factored in. Every other tool manufacture only give actual motor output, no maximum developed. Probably one of many reasons Sears is going under.
Do these motors have a reset button. Just bought older model ran when I left the individuals house, hour later got home won't run!
Sears was legendary with there fractional hp. ratings and useless gadgetry. Even if this saw did have a 1/8 hp advantage would it really make a difference?
It literally says 1 1/8 hp in the motor itself and has the fla of a 1.25hp motor… it’s what it says it is
@@lonewolftech You literally don't know what you are talking about. I had this exact saw for over a decade before selling it and the motors are rated at 5/8HP. You can't possible tell from the low quality of this video what the motor tag even says.
Mine was an absolute nightmare. both belt pulleys were loose and the set screws were gone. I have a huge hole in my thumbnail from trying to line up the pulleys and install new set screws.... did not come with a fence or a miter... going to buy a craftsman table saw for the fence and miter.
Sorry Roy,
Saw was sold locally. I'm always wheeling and dealing in power tools, and I always pick up saws whenever I find them. Maybe you can subscribe to my seller store "Odds-N-Ends Appliances" on Ebay.
I started off doing appliances, then added tools. Recently I'm working with a partner who is into women's accessories...
