  • Detailed instructions on how to tie an October Caddis Skater.
    Recipe:
    Hook: Standard nymph hook (here, a Dai-Riki 730), size 14.
    Thread: 6/0 or 140 Denier, burnt orange.
    Wings/Tail: Deer body hair, dyed-orange.
    Abdomen: Rabbit-fur dubbing, burnt orange.
    Back: Orange craft foam, 2mm by 4mm.
    Thorax: Rabbit-fur dubbing, burnt orange.

    You must have some tiny October Caddis. Here in Washington the smallest we go on the Great Orange Sedge is an 8. They are most effective tied in sizes 4, 6, and 8.
